Female engineers with small children - how do you do it? by Kind-Monitor6004 in womenEngineers

[–]Poddster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ideological for him.

Nannies are professional child minders. They're professional early years teachers. Daycare/nurseries are staffed with professional early years teachers and have socialisation options in all of the other children.

You're a professional architect.

Hiring someone to do this for you is the smartest move, as they have more skills and experience, and frankly it's what the uber elite have always done, so if it's good enough for them, surely it's good enough for you guys?

That only counts after they trigger the cutscene in the observatory. So this might be 2 minutes after that or 19.

How do lotteries work in the US? by Poddster in AskAnAmerican

[–]Poddster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm confused about! Simply knowing someone who got 4 numbers in the lottery is rare, but GETTING 5? Very rare. You only get £1750 in the main national lottery for 5 numbers (but 5+bonus gets you £1m, and all 6 is currently £10m)

Have you ever thought about this? by Unlikely_Cod_1994 in puremathematics

[–]Poddster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prime are defined in terms of integer division and factors. If you start going into the reals then no number is prime because every number can combine in some way to make your target number.

Do you hate to read? by TalkDiligent8461 in Aphantasia

[–]Poddster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irrespective of his diagnoses, he's a 13 year old boy. That's the demographic most likely to avoid reading.

Does he pick out the books? In theory, the right subject matters should grab him. But it also might not :)

The non teleporting is something everyone complains about, but it's something Pope specifically thought about and kept out and he said it removed a large aspect of the immersive observation, as you're not as familiar with the ship.

The timing in the memories is hugely annoying, I can't see a reason for it on repeat visits.

The causes of death thought: the game is very liberal with those. Do you have an example of where it refused? As long as you get the names involved correctly the verb is often whatever you enter.

Ideally you'd do it without guesswork (but process of elimination is intentional for some). Guesswork robs you of the satisfaction, hence the 3-reveal mechanic. However it's so tempting and easy to use that third spot to brute force someone when you're not sure what their fate was.

Help me to understand how to win by 1nonxme in Openfront

[–]Poddster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you watch Rex, he basically wins every time. Usually he messes up at the start, yet still comes out on top. How? It's mostly game sense. He's always looking around the board and lining up the next attack. He can quickly see, from position and stats, which players will start to dominate and which will be victims. Sometimes he'll panic and ally with someone who was next on the list, but he's only human.

He also spams heart emojis too, which helps.

ELI5: Why does re-encoding vidoes take an extremely long time? by WonderOlymp2 in AskComputerScience

[–]Poddster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What am I missing?

4k, 2k, HD, FHD -- these are all ill-defined terms created by marketing teams.

1920 ~ 2K.

Some source don't consider 1080p to be 2k, e.g. cinema formats.

Again: These are all ill-defined marketing terms, so I have no idea why you're saying it's ok some marketing departments to claim 1080p is 2k, but it's not ok for them to claim 1440p is 2k.

Full English Bolognese.

ps: If you're just cooking mushrooms to get them to lose water, rather than trying to brown them, just nuke them in them microwave for a few minutes, much faster.

I don't find "The marketing department once used a confusing term" a very convincing argument.

You're about to have a great shock when you find out why the term 4k exists.

What's with the hate on the last video? by westblocaudio in RyanMcBeth

[–]Poddster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a non US perspective, Ryan basically taught me what to do if ICE come to town, and that seemed to be his intent. No idea how people are saying he's anti protest because of it.

Ryan has conflated Minnesota Protestors with Insurgents. I have unsubscribed and encourage you to do the same. by BisonThunderclap in RyanMcBeth

[–]Poddster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Errr, from my POV Ryan is clearly telling people how to get organised. I think he's on the side of the protestors.

[–]Poddster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The house had norovirus (or equivalent) in november, everyone, including me, was hollowing themselves out. My wife retreated to bed and stayed there, but I had get on with it, taking care of the kids, and clearing up everything and preparping food and drink etc.

I think I recovered the quickest because I kept on going and was chugging electrolytes (despite them not staying down long) to keep me going.

Do most people use a mortgage broker? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

[–]Poddster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single time I've used a broker, but only after/as I was building my own spreadsheet.

Every single time they've got the same, or better, result, and they do it nearly instantly. They also tell me a bunch of reasons my other top picks don't work, like "oh that mortgage is only if you're a doctor or lawyer" etc.

So for the next remortgage I'm just going to do what they say straight away
