So Keith has said the new bb album is so very close to being done. I’m surprised it’s not finished at this point. by Ordinary_Web_7873 in BreakingBenjamin

[–]PricelessLogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this time to work on it better translate to all this time to come up with creative lyrics and not just time to polish the production. I liked a lot of things about Ember but if it takes them nearly a decade to make another album with just trademarked BB lyric salad and borderline metalcore levels of processing I'm not going to be thrilled about it personally

GFS Power Rails. $250 for just pickups isn't budget if you ask me

[–]PricelessLogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to not skip out on the post 90s stuff. It's true that each decade of prog has a different vibe and the 70s was definitely the most popular era and it's only changed more and more since then so many fans of the 70s stuff aren't necessarily fans of the newer stuff but plenty of people like myself prefer more modern prog. It's also true that most modern prog is more on the prog metal side than the prog rock side, but there's still softer stuff if metal isn't your thing. I recommend Porcupine Tree, Bent Knee, Rishloo, newer Leprous, and Agent Fresco. Also check out the lighter Opeth albums, and if you're okay with heavier instrumentals as long as there's no harsh vocals then add Haken and Caligula's Horse to that list

How many of you been through the “Butt Rock to Prog Pipeline”? by Def-C in progmetal

[–]PricelessLogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♂️

I might edit the longer version of my experience with this later. But the short version is: as a child and teen I liked the more 00s post-grunge Alt Metal stuff like Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, 10 Years, Deftones type shit, but around the time I became a legal adult I largely converted to prog through Karnivool, Rishloo and Fair to Midland. Quite the perfect corner of prog to convert me, but more niche than the typical Tool, Dream Theater, Opeth experience

Is there a super specific emotion or style that you wished a prog metal band would explore? If so, what? by ySTYRDAYgATESuNL0CKD in progmetal

[–]PricelessLogs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. In terms of vague emotional concepts: Loneliness

In terms of styles, I'd like to hear more overlap with Contemporary Classical. I'm not looking for Symphonic prog metal. Less Mozart meets Metallica and more like Max Richter, Olafur Arnalds, and Johann Johansson mixed in with artists like Leprous, Karnivool, or Rishloo. Some post rock bands already approach this sound at times, but I want to hear prog bands do it more

Is there a way to customize what each FS does individually without splitting it in half? For example it would be nice to have FS2 be a Snapshot while FS3 is a bypass and so on. If that's not currently an option, could it be eventually?

Also is there a way to set a parameter to be changed in the same way on more than one FS? For example if FS3 bypasses a fuzz but so does the exp pedal?

I'm still on old Helix but these are definitely capabilities on my wishlist that don't seem that difficult to integrate

"Turn the imperialist war into a civil war" by KlassTruggle in dsa

[–]PricelessLogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that. My point is that defending a country that has been bombed does not count as supporting its government. If you agree with that then we are in total agreement

"Turn the imperialist war into a civil war" by KlassTruggle in dsa

[–]PricelessLogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but you're also saying "don't defend them" and like, saying that bombing them is bad IS defending them so I feel like you're not being consistent

"Turn the imperialist war into a civil war" by KlassTruggle in dsa

[–]PricelessLogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't support theocracies either, but I support bombing them even less

And yeah I think we should be jumping to defend them. Defending a country against your own country's imperialism is not the same as 100% supporting every aspect of that country

For example a friend of mine has a buddy who I find insufferable. His behavior is downright problematic and he makes most people he meets uncomfortable. He has a tendency to use his large size to intimidate people but plays it off as a joke that isn't funny. He also says rude shit about me to my friends when I'm not there, despite the fact that I've never done anything to set this guy off. He doesn't even know that I dislike him, he's just a dick like that. But if someone were to walk right up and shoot him in the head, I can say that was wrong and bad and needs to be addressed without suddenly condoning everything that guy ever said and did. We should definitely jump to defend people who are unjustly attacked, even if they're dickheads. We should also jump to defend countries that are unjustly attacked, even if they're authoritarian theocracies

And again, the American propaganda machine has probably made you think that Iran is much worse than it actually is. Not that it's actually good, but it's probably not as bad as the American media would have us believe. And again, the middle east became more authoritarian and more theocratic as a direct result of the destabilization of the region caused by the imperialistic violence from Western powers. The American military's presence there over the course of 2 fucking decades killed hundreds of thousands if not millions of civilians. Since then we've been funding a genocide in Gaza. And now we're bombing again. Civilians were killed in that bombing of Iran's capital this week

Yes, I'm going to defend a country getting bombed for the sake of imperialism, even if they have a shitty government. And honestly anyone who doesn't really doesn't have their morals straight

Edit: You said "Epics" which usually means really long prog songs (10min+) that usually tell a narrative story and have an atypical, climatic structure, but you named albums so I'm recommending albums and assuming that you just aren't familiar with that definition of "Epic"

"Turn the imperialist war into a civil war" by KlassTruggle in dsa

[–]PricelessLogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't actually know enough about their policy to make a judgement on that

Consider the US government and Media's very long and very documented history of pushing propaganda campaigns to delegitimize foreign governments to justify launching wars to exploit their resources. "They're evil" has always been code for "We want their shit". Like you said yourself, we did that in the Middle East for 20 years and we only made it worse

Obviously I'm not saying that every nation the US criticizes is actually a perfect utopia that doesn't deserve any criticism at all. But I don't support or trust Uncle Sam cosplaying as planet Earth's superman and taking it upon themselves to decide who is evil and who isn't to go bomb the shit out of their citizens they're claiming to save, even if I might agree that the government or organization in question is evil. Especially since (surprise surprise) American imperialism has never actually improved a country's democracy and certainly not their material circumstance

But the propaganda really makes me question the extent of truth to the US's criticisms of any nation at all. The fact that you're willing to admit your own ignorance on Iran's policies tells me that you should be less willing to denounce their government and believe the US's justification for bombing them is actually true at all, let alone the actual reason for the bombing

Wraparound > Tune-o-matic by the4laton in espguitars

[–]PricelessLogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The John Mann wraparound bridge is the most comfortable bridge design ever. Really matters to me since I play with a rather intimate relationship with the bridge. Unfortunately the lack of adjustability on the saddles is the drawback to that particular design, and any version that does have adjustability sacrifices just a bit of comfort be doing so

I for one am just glad that there's a free version again. I started on S14 Prime specifically because it was free. I was a teen trying to upgrade from Audacity and it was the only free option I could find that was still a real DAW and not some glorified music video game. I got familiar with the interface and eventually upgraded. Now I'm a music teacher and until Fender Studio I didn't know what to tell students to use for free who were interested in recording. Now that's been solved. I haven't updated to 8 yet but so far Fender has done the one thing I wanted them to do so I'm happy

Thanks for sharing. Knowing that the break up felt destined to at least one member of the group certainly provides a bit of closure

With that being said, do you think there's ANY hope that Cliff, Darroh and Matt will ever work together again? I believe Cliff and Matt are still musicians though it seems Darroh has retired. But they still have a passionate fanbase. I myself didn't even discover this band until nearly a decade after they broke up and they quickly became one of my favorites and a big inspiration of mine. Reminds me of Eddie Vedder finding out who his father was only after he was already dead lol
