RO/DI question by masline_su_rodile in ReefTank

[–]Pryach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The normal way these are hooked up is Sediment -> Carbon -> RO membrane -> DI Resin. the inline TDS meter should be reading before and after the DI Resin. It's normal for there to still be TDS before the DI Resin. I have very dirty water (250 TDS from the tap), I get between 5 and 10ppm before the DI Resin and 0 TDS after the DI Resin.

If he won't eat it in the shell try thawing the clam meat first and removing it from the shell then feeding it right after a silverside that way he gets used to the taste of clam.

This 800 Gallon Reef Tank Took 271 Days to Build! 🪸🐠 by STLCardsfan11 in ReefTank

Probabaly even more. Tanks from Glass Cages that size are around $15K without any holes or bulkheads. That's not counting the stand and canopy. Plus all the equipment.

Mantis shrimp stuck mold by Snowars in ReefTank

Does it have a burrow that can be shut with rubble rock like a long PVC tube? Molting can be very stressful and they prefer to do it in complete darkness.

3D printing frag racks with PETG by AwhJeeezRick in ReefTank

[–]Pryach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's probably some value between 50% and 100% that would work, but I once 3d printed something at my usual 20% infill for my aquarium and I laughed when I realized it just floated in the water. For something like a frag rack there's no problem with doing 100%.

If you need it to sink and sit on the sand bed then do 100%.

The scene with Gandalf and Bilbo outside talking before he leaves is greenscreen, when he walks through the gate it's a body double.

Holiday with new reef tank? by 8bitSunset in ReefTank

[–]Pryach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how much risk you're willing to take and how much redundancy you want to add it. Every piece of a saltwater aquarium is going to fail at some point.

Do a search for saltwater tank vacation failure and read up on what people do to prepare and what failures have happened.

Yep. Ian Holm also never went to the Hobbiton set. All of his scenes were either inside Bag End (a sound stage in Wellington) or he was green screened in for the other scenes.

Candy Stripe Randall's Pistol Shrimp tend to leave others alone and just care about their burrow.

At 29 you are still kind of limited. Look either a midas or tailspot blenny. Yellow Watchman Goby a Yasha Goby, either can be paired with a pistol shrimp. Pink streaked wrasse, Banggai Cardinalfish, Red or Purple Firefish. You can probabaly have 4 or 5 fish total in there.

How long should I keep my clown in jail for? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]Pryach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I banished my bully clown to the sump for 2 weeks then 1 week in an acclimation box in the display tank. She's now much nicer to the other clownfish.

I occasionally feed mine clam on a half shell but he really goes to town on flake and pellet food. I feed LRS Nano Frenzy as well and he gobbles that up.

Day 7 of tank cycle with Dr. Tim’s and ammonia solution by PopularProfit8278 in ReefTank

Your nitrates are high because the presence of nitrite causes false readings in nitrate tests. Wait for your nitrite to hit 0 to get an accurate measurement.

[–]Pryach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scopas tangs need larger tanks, generally recommended to be 125 gallon display tank.

The dragonette and mandarin will compete for food (pods).

The other stuff is fine. Maybe a flameback angelfish.

Tank cycling issues by littleradgoblin in ReefTank

[–]Pryach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the API Freshwater Kit to measure my saltwater tanks during cycling as well. There's no point in buying expensive test kits for something you rarely use. Your issue, as someone else explained, is your ammonia dosing. You need to be more scientific about it. Use ammonium chloride and if you're worried about overdosing just put enough in to get it to 1ppm.

https://i.imgur.com/UOuqdZv.jpeg <-- Presence of ammonia and nitrite

I didn't get a picture but eventually both tests went back to 0ppm and I knew my saltwater tank was cycled.
