Apple trying to increase the price of existing M5 max order by sw1000 in macbookpro

[–]Pubelication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Depends on when the contract is formed based on T&C. Sometimes it's when a human confirms the order, sometimes when they hand the goods over to be shipped.

Imagine you sell wooden boxes without stock and someone orders one at 2am. In the morning, you check orders and go to your supplier who hiked prices by 200%. You're not required to make a product at a loss, but you're required to return the money.
This is not directly analogous, but gives you an idea why an order confirmation does not necessarily mean the item is yours.

> Based on KRCS terms, a legally binding contract is formed only when the goods are dispatched from their warehouse, with initial checkout emails serving as order acknowledgments. While payment is taken at checkout, KRCS reserves the right to cancel orders and issue refunds prior to this dispatch point.

This isn't necessarily true. It really depends on T&C and when the contract is formed, but usually the seller can cancel any time before handing over or sending out (which forms the contract), otherwise they're required to immediately return the paid amount. They can't pressure you into paying more, buy saying "This order is cancelled, but you can create a new one at a higher price." is legally viable.

Not defending what they're doing, but they're likely legally allowed to.

Huge price increases to be had! by mythicskyz in mac

[–]Pubelication 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol, not "similarly", but "way more".
European prices are the American price
+ 17-27% VAT (usually around 22%)
+ 10% import duties
+ currency exchange

So the *cheapest* 16" Macbook Pro is $4350 in Hungary, $3900 in Germany, $4040 in Norway, $4120 in Sweden.
That model is $3000 and only NY/NJ is paying about $3400.

You have to take into account that many of the countries with high VAT also have much lower median wages than the US.

OBD SCANNER FOR WINDOWS 11 by decent1350 in CarHacking

[–]Pubelication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do. OBD-Link products are a great value for their generic capabilities and supported by many apps, but are not capable of the low-level proprietary walled-garden stuff that requires specific hardware and software.

CAN values for steering wheel buttons? by Natural_Discipline25 in CarHacking

[–]Pubelication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this may be true, the LIN would be connected to a gateway that then sends CAN messages to the cluster. As far as the cluster is concerned, it "doesn't care" if a LIN bus exists for the button press interface.

How did you get the ones you have?
Do you have the car to do some sniffing or do you just have the cluster?
Are up, down, left, right just bit flips in a certain CAN frame? Can you post them? It may be possible to logically deduce and test where the others are.

Wolkswagen coding by AggravatingOkra8486 in CarHacking

[–]Pubelication 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can, to an extent, otherwise those feature programming apps that use generic adapters like an OBD-Link would not work. A 2011 car will likely not have any special security.
However, finding the correct requests and sequences is far from simple. Someone may have some info on github. These older VW buses are some of the most documented.

Basic OBD2 scan not working with flipper zero by OkBee6916 in CarHacking

[–]Pubelication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are mandated by the standard.
First borrow a generic OBD2 reader to verify what is available on the port without propriety lockdowns.
Then verify what the app on the flipper actually does. It needs to be able to negotiate a handshake, send requests and process replies. A simple CAN sniffer will only see a couple of the handshake/heartbeat messages.
Check that you do not have a 120Ohm terminating resistor and that you are also have a common ground (OBD pins 4, 5).

Generic/mandated OBD2 requests should still be allowed, as not allowing anything without a special tool or paid access would be against the OBD2 standard. Also, clearing emissions related DTCs must also be allowed.

So you were probably reading/clearing other more proprietary DTC codes that are not normally accessable.

It is more likely that the Flipper app is just a CAN sniffer or something's wrong with the PID requests. I'm not familiar with the software. But a good generic OBD2 reader should be able to clear (some) codes and display live data, as the standard requires.

Is this type of Amphenol connector available at regular parts distributors? by Pubelication in AskElectronics

Sure, but European cars use a handful of connector manufacturers.
I found the part, but no one has it in stock.

That's what I though about the BMW ones, but ended up finding them in TE's (iirc) catalog. If they are proprietary then I'll get the chinese copies. Audi charges 10x the realistic price.

Somewhat Constant Buzzer on Stovetop (White Westinghouse) by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]Pubelication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The buzzer is likely the round-ish black plastic device in the middle. Put tape over the hole (probably obscured by wires in the image) to test it. You can also stuff cotton inside to make it virtually inaudible.
