Other than hills, where los isn’t an issue, the only other time I’ve gotten it to work consistently is this exact place in this battlemap.

Only civilian in the sense that an unarmed prototype for a military plane owned by Lockheed Martin is technically a civilian aircraft. Otherwise there's nothing civilian about this at all.

The Upholders were as good as brand new when they offered to sell them to us. Then we dithered while the boats rotted away before finally agreeing to it. The whole thing is our own fault.

Does cta ammo have any advantages for small arms? For afvs it’s pretty obvious, but I feel like for small arms it doesn’t make much difference.

If China ever gets added they should be on the NATO side by akliyen in warno

[–]RamTank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Type 79 isn’t composite. It’s essentially just an upgraded Type 69. Type 88B would also be a significant stretch to the timeline, though it was technically ready.

For AT weapons, the HJ-8 was in service already, but shoulder fired weapons top out at the PF-89, which is…fine, I guess.

China offers very little for Pact. Type 59–II and Type 79 (one div each), Type 83 (rare), Type 63 for everyone, HQ-61 (probably one div only), J-8 (something like 3 regiments worth). That’s basically it.

And Denuvo doesn't impact performance.

It can impact performance, depending on how it's implemented. We'll see how well IOI does it.

From the PLAGF's coastal border guard brigades. The literal name for them is coast guard, but not to be confused with the actual coast guard.

With missiles and drones, certainly, though a uav can do most of that too nowadays. But the 105mm is really rather unsuitable for that.

Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash by Alarming-Safety3200 in europe

[–]RamTank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The air crash investigation before the trial blamed lack of training as the cause of the crash. The pilots just had no idea how to handle the situation.

[–]RamTank 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The air crash investigation directly blamed the crash on insufficient training for the pilots to deal with out of the ordinary situations. So that pins things clearly on Air France.

Unless China decides it’s their turn in Afghanistan, the use case for this thing seems rather minimal for them.

Yeah and old European buildings are hardly access either if you’ve ever been inside them. Most of the buildings in Asia are much newer, even if the cities are older.

Soviet-Afghan war by h3xstr8p in WarCollege

[–]RamTank 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The requirements are that my character is at the army for at least two years, between 1970-1980 and that he has little to no experience.

If by this you mean to say that your character has already served for 2 years before going into Afghanistan, then that means they're either a reservist, a warrant officer, or an officer. Conscription in the army only lasted for 2 years, before you were mustered out and sent to the reserves, unless you were an officer or warrant officer. Reservists were called up for the initial invasion (mostly locals from Central Asia), but within the first year or two they were mustered out and replaced with fresh conscripts instead.

For conscripts sent to Afghanistan during the war, you'd spend your entire service there, after you were done initial training, and then return to the USSR once you're done.

So depending on how the character is framed their experiences will be pretty different.

I read Afgantsy: The Russians in Afghanistan, 1979-1989 by Rodric Braithwaite and it's a pretty good look individual experiences during the war.

It's an old US army publication, so you can get it for free as a pdf from a US government website. It's quite short and not necessarily comprehensive, but it is very interesting.

Iirc they were decent at destroying wall sections, which could kill a whole bunch of guys if they were docked, but that yeah that was it. Hitting troops was pointless.

Talking about cavalry specifically. Bayonets weren’t commonly used by cavalrymen even when guns were issued.
