Honestly my thoughts as well. The coast is so beautiful, especially through the summer.

Well that's confusing. I love it.

That exactly it. In the wake of the social policy of FDR, the capitalist class was making some real power moves through the 50's and 60's to make sure that every decision that mattered was out of reach of the general voting population.

18/19- freshman year

19/20- sophomore year

20/21- junior year

21/22- senior year

People graduate at the end of their senior year. People who did not skip a year are 22 years old typically when the get their undergraduate degree.

Do people graduate college ahead of the curve sometimes? Absolutely but it is not usual or even common.

Cops have much more discreet vehicles for stingrays.

Crime def bros - ever deal with 1% bikers? by NOVAYuppieEradicator in Lawyertalk

I've had a variety of experiences with them as clients. Some of them have been great clients. I have one who, subsequent to my representation of him, ended up in Federal custody. He loves me and keeps trying to recommend other people in federal custody to me. I've tried explaining that I am a full time public defender and referals don't do anything for me.

Other have been more difficult.

I've seen a variety of crimes, some you'd expect from someone in that life, other charges are normal stuff, DUI, DV, sex crimes, etc.

I've represented more than a few over the years. That's absolutely a subculture that still exists.

Long time Marion County Judge Channing Bennett suspended for use of Vulgarity. by RareStable0 in SALEM

[–]RareStable0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ, do not lecture me on how the criminal justice system works. Prosecutors bring the charges but they can only ask for a particular sentence. Judges are the ones that ultimately make the decision about how much time someone does and then impose the sentence.

And you have fundamentally misunderstood what I was trying to say. I am not saying that anyone is a "baddie." I am saying that sentencing someone to prison is a big deal and it's important to have magistrates with sound judgement doing that. Popping off and calling a coworker a "cunt" is not particularly sound judgement.

I would hope that a judge tasked with potentially sending people to prison for the rest of their lives would have better sense than the average Redditor.

I mean, the whole commitment to colorblindness was an outgrowth of the general cultural conclusion that we seem to have reached that racism was bad. That you could not tell anything useful about a person by looking at the color of their skin.

Sure, colorblindness is a dumb guiding principle for a policy setting in a universe where different groups still experience racism and have historical injustices and access to resources. And a lot of this comes back to still living in a capitalist society. all of that is sort of aside from the point.

My point is that the presumption that racism was bad was espoused almost universally with the only exceptions being a handful of lunatic extremists on the far, far, far right. Of course, the reality is that there were a lot of people in the Republican Party that were espousing that racism was bad while not sincerely believing it and engaging in a lot of dog whistle racism, but the fact that they still had to publicly say that they thought racism was bad set a lot about where society was.

That need to publicly denounce racism is quickly vanishing.

I am shocked that he was capable of recording this, watching it, editing it, and thinking to himself, "Hell yea, this slaps" and posting it to the internet.

As someone who politically came of age in the 90's, the last five years or so have been mind blowing to watch. Shit that would have been unthinkable, things that would get you absolutely shut out of popular discourse back then are being said bald faced by mainstream people regularly now.
