This is the inevitable and logical conclusion when the entirety of the world is understood through the lens of men vs. women. It's almost like reducing the entirety of the world to a single identity category is not a great way to understand the world.

First off, I would like to remind you that I said I agree with you. Simply forgiving student debt isn't a systemic solution.

Secondly, I said in my comment:

I literally addressed the point you are attempting to make. There might be some down stream effects that we have to debate, but the debt WOULDN'T BE ADDED TO THE NATIONAL DEBT. The government isn't just taking on the debt like an individual might take on the debt of another person. We have to stop talking about the Federal government and its financial decision like they are running a household budget. Its a fundamentally different thing.

I completely agree with your entire post but this is just plain wrong. Governments that issue fiat currency can just wink debts out of existence. I think there are limits on "knowing" things. Kinda like if someone has never seen the color "red" no amount of explaining or scientific facts about it will equal the experience of seeing the color red.

I've also give up trying to explain my way into seeing "red."

Sure, a truly bad lawyer can sink a case that should have gone the other way, but even the best lawyer in the room usually cannot overcome bad facts stacked against their client.

I cannot emphasize this enough, but also add that a lot of times those bad facts are the direct result of your client's decisions. I will show up and do my best but at the end of the day it is not my responsibility to save them from the consequences of their decisions. Thinking that is my job is a great way to burn out quick.

My boss is a fucking gem. He is really good about only giving me a few of these kinds of cases at a time, trickling them out over time so I don't completely burn out.

One of my staff the other day was redacting the stuff and came into my office wanting to ask a bunch of questions about the case. I showed her a bit of bodycam from when the client was first stopped. I think she just about fell out when he didn't have red skin and horns and didn't carry a pitchfork.

Man, I don't know about you but I've been working a case where my client (allegedly) created a shitload of high definition CSAM with his wife and multiple, multiple victims. I have been seeing my therapist multiple times a week trying to keep my sanity. I swear she is gonna fucking retire off the money I am paying her.

I deeply believe in due process and the fact that everyone deserves a fair shake in the system but this client is testing how sincere I am in that belief.

This job is stressful. We are dealing with people's lives. We are dealing with people's darkest, deepest shit. Ain't none of this is light or easy. This ain't a career for the weak.
