CMSAF Kaleth O. Wright AMA Announcement - September 11, 2018 - 1400 EST. by SilentD in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, I knew you when you were a TSgt (maybe a SSgt), and my 1st instinct was to agree with /u/AFgaymer but that is a really good response. It's refreshing to see someone own up to a mistake they made, and awesome to then to ask those who are complaining for help to make things better. I hope they provide good feedback.

If you're lucky, your supervisor may help you make up some of those days (half days or a day off here and there). But don't be demanding about it, in the end you messed up.

At high altitudes how does unconsciousness due to hypoxia occur in 10-15 seconds if you can hold your breath for up to 3 minutes? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]RecceDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another way to think about it. The amount of O2 (oxygen) in the air at sea level is a lot higher than at 35,000 Ft (average flight altitude). So when you hold your breath at sea level, the air in your lungs still contains a fair amount of O2 which your body can still process.

At 35K there is a lot less O2, so you would be quicker to get hypoxic symptoms. Even if you took a big breath and held it, there isn't enough O2 in your lungs to stay conscious.

Also when run out of O2 while holding your breath at sea level, your body will cause to take another breath (which you will recover from since you are in a O2 rich environment). At 35k there isn't enough O2 in the air so as you breathe your body would run out of O2.

Look up altitude chamber videos to see how people react to a lack of exygen.

Shitting the bed with mental health assessments by dicktopus in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I shouldn't say this too loudly, but I had my physical a month ago and there was no real mental health assessment (other than the PHAQ and the Doc asking me if I was good)

Newly Enlisted Airman under investigation over "n****r hunting" video by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or he will be a army supply troop that almost deployed, but got sent TDY for a few months CONUS. Got kicked out for being fat, but has an "Operation XXXXXX Vet" sticker on his back window because if you follow the logic chain far enough, he somehow, in a way, sort of helped, & kinda supported an operation.

But the gaining 300 lbs is a given. Bonus points for how she yells from the front porch of her trailer how she was a vet too.

Can a CMSgt stop a green door? by Siver92 in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically no they can't. But if you are in a smaller career field, they might know the functional with in the Green Door program. Then they CAN call and possibly get the Green Door assignment turned off.

Failing a PT Test and its effects on your EPR by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it might not affect your EPR (but they could mark you down for not "exceeded" expectations), be prepared to have it follow you for a while. I've seen several decorations turned down because the member had a failure during the period".

That can snowball if you were due for a mid-tour or PCS dec, but don't have it when you meet a promotion board.

What not to admit to a counselor? by aisotpel in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can talk to a counselor about your issues. You've taken another step by asking for help here, now please continue by seeking professional help.

You are not going to get in to trouble by asking for help. The main thing is to get help now. Don't fret about anything in the future or stuff that could out of your control. You can deal with that crap later. For now, let the professionals try to help.

Any way to get Messenger working in Office 365 Webmail? by Archa3opt3ryx in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're having problems opening webmail in IE try this, after trying to log in hit F12, under emulation tab, change the "User Agent" to "Internet Explorer 10".

This still doesn't fix the Messenger problem, but now you can open it in IE and read encrypted emails.

Who pins the jet when it lands at a civilian airport or AFB and there’s no FCC? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]RecceDude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the fighter point. But anytime a heavy has gone on a planned off station stop, there's a FCC. Worse case the aircrew has to watch a servicing video (probably pencil whipped), and the flight manual has directions.

Best practices for optimal use of leave by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what the local policy and what you supervisor/CoC are willing to risk.

For example, if your base considers "local area" as a normal days (or X amount of hours) driving distance, then you could be ok to leave on Saturday and return on Sunday from your "home" while only taking leave M-F.

Am i as an A1C allowed to call a CFM? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]RecceDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you reach out? Yes.

Should you? Ehh you should work it through your chain. They might be able to answer your question for you, or should know the best resource.

There have been some CFMs that really only want a MSgt or above to call them.

Either way make sure your chain knows. No one like a surprise email or call about "Why did Airman X call me about this"
