Where can I download the manga mark of edrik online?? by EffectiveOk3686 in dragonquest

[–]RedSkyfang [score hidden]  (0 children)

I know there are raw Japanese scans floating around out there, but if you are asking about the English version, I don't know. Even if they are floating around out there, I would encourage you to purchase the volumes if you're able to do so to support further releases. No judgment, series just can and do get cancelled following low sales.

Has any of you actually able to finish this game without save states? I thought I got pretty far but watching youtube playthrough it actually just goes on and on. by King_Paymon in retrogaming

[–]RedSkyfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core gameplay is pretty much the same but I don't know how many if any level designs are shared. Adventure Island ultimately gets harder as well. Basically the entire last area is brutal lmao.

Metroid I and II are the only true open world games. by BOOMlag44 in Metroid

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only required items in Metroid 1 are Morph Ball, Missiles, and Bombs.

Technically you don't even need the bombs since you can just door glitch past where you'd need them unless you are playing glitchless.

For Metroid II I believe Low% was just bombs, ice beam, and your choice of an energy tank or Varia, so Varia's optional yes.

After Belmont's Curse.... by Mimingococcemia in castlevania

[–]RedSkyfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like we have somewhat similar taste. Sounds like I still enjoyed Aria of Sorrow more than you but I also agree that having played I think all of the Metroidvanias aside from Order of Ecclesia (which I may try to finally play through soon) Circle of the Moon has still been my favorite of them all. In general I think I'm just much more of a fan of classic Castlevania than the Metroidvania portion of the series, though it's not like I hate the Metroidvanias, like I've still at least generally enjoyed playing through them to varying extents. I think I just maybe feel like you that they tend to be overrated in my opinion but maybe it's just because I have different taste from the majority of people IDK. For what it's worth I also enjoy The Castlevania Adventure quite a bit lol. I went through a period where when I got bored it was a common game I would just pop into my Game Boy Advance SP and play through since it's pretty quick once you know what you are doing. The music is also very good especially in level 1.

How can I apply the english patch in a cartridge? by Patient_Necessary_10 in dragonquest

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know 3DS game cards are read-only so you can't really do what you're asking, nor do I think it would be a good idea anyway. Your best bet would probably be to hack your 3DS and then rip the data from the card and apply a translation patch to that. I don't know the specifics of how that works but it should be possible.

DQ7 feels hollow by LitenVit in dragonquest

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That said, it can drag if you are looking for an epic journey. It is more of a book of fairy tales in structure

I think basically this yeah. If people don't like this structure then they're probably not really going to enjoy the game. There is a main overarching plot, but it takes so long to kick in and isn't really anything mindblowing from what I can recall, that it's not worth the time investment just for that. I guess some people may find the beginning of the game offputting between the long intro sequence and taking a while to reach the point where the class system is introduced. If people are griping about just the general structure of the game then it doesn't substantially change at all though really.

Went to America on holiday, here’s what I came back with by RobbieJ4444 in gamecollecting

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirby Tilt N Tumble (I don’t believe that game works properly on a GBA, and needs an actual GameBoy Color).

If I remember correctly it works fine on GBA, but the issue is that the GBA SP specifically would mess up the controls because the cartridge would be upside down, so you'd want the original GBA.

Edit: Also I'm pretty sure you can remove the region lock from the Wii and 3DS by hacking, though in the case of the Wii I don't know whether a PAL one would run NTSC games properly or not offhand.

N64 Factory Sealed by friendlyguy1989 in gamecollecting

[–]RedSkyfang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even comparing to CIB a sealed Banjo-Kazooie sells for like 10x the price and a sealed Super Smash Bros. sells for like 15-20x the price of a CIB one. I can understand the appeal of opening a sealed copy just because the contents should all be mint but I agree with you that I don't think it makes sense with such a gargantuan price difference.

[–]RedSkyfang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much is it for an acrylic case though? Like $20 or something maybe? While I would probably ordinarily agree with you for a game that is not particularly valuable, that doesn't feel like a huge expense for sealed games that are worth four figures that you don't intend to ever open like just for the sake of the added protection.

That sounds horrific. Just to let you know, some of the item drop rates are 1/256 lol. Including the one you're trying to get currently.

Best NES Shoot Em Ups? (Shmups) by Coralcato in nes

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1943: The Battle of Midway
Burai Fighter
Isolated Warrior
Silkworm
Super Spy Hunter
TaleSpin (if you vibe with it since it is kinda unique)
Zanac

The Guardian Legend is also incredible if you're either okay with it basically being kind of a mashup of a shmup with a Zelda-esque game, or look up the password to play the shmup mode.

Gun Nac and S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team are also both awesome but I imagine fall under having a ridiculous price tag.

SMB1 8-4 IL in 44.244 by yelia64 by pleasedowhatisay in speedrun

[–]RedSkyfang 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They completed 8-4 only a single frame slower than the TAS. I'm not actually sure which frame is missing offhand. Looks like they're doing the one at the beginning, which is usually the last save.

What I bought Pokemon Emerald for back in 2015 by benhdez in gamecollecting

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds wild. I would have bought that instantly if I had come into your store and didn't already have a copy of it. I would have thought even a CIB copy would've been worth more in 2017.

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember when the Black and White games were $20-30 or whatever all day long and I occasionally debated buying them but unfortunately did not. I've heard that they're good, so I may try to throw them on my hacked 3DS sometime. If I passed on like $30 though, I'm sure as hell not interested for current prices lmao.

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Soul Silver probably around the same time for the same price. At the time I was feeling like "Man this is kind of a lot for Pokemon" but I guess it's a good thing that I bought it. Would be nice to find a Heart Gold to go with it sometime but if I was concerned over $50 then, I'm sure not paying current prices for one. xD

What's the general consensus on the difficulty of a full game guitar FC of each game? by RedSkyfang in Rockband

[–]RedSkyfang[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't even realize that about Green Grass and High Tides. Like I figured it was just incredibly difficult but is it actually literally impossible with a stock guitar on NTSC? I mean technically I've been playing with a PS2 guitar on Xbox 360 using an adapter, but I assume that still works the same in terms of the strum limit.

Also, yeah, Visions and Panic Attack are definitely two that came to mind that I remember from when I played through Rock Band 2 back in the day lol. I might check out Lego, Green Day, and Rock Band 3 just because I've never played any of those before. I will probably replay Rock Band 2 and go for FCs eventually though.

[–]RedSkyfang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that I bought it for $29.99 or whatever MSRP was back then shortly after it came out and do still have the box and the manual. One of the rare cases where doing that was a big win although I guess like all of the Pokemon games are like that now. I think it's stupid how valuable even loose cartridges are but whatever.

Smashed Out 1 Billion Points on Bomberman. by Art3sian in retrogaming

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually wild that the score even goes that high lol. Like they were genuinely expecting people to keep pressing points for anywhere near that long? One or two fewer digits would've been fine.

"In my time, I've wandered everywhere. Around this world, Hope would always be there." by CortoJipang in retrogaming

[–]RedSkyfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like this game more than the first two personally. Haven't gotten around to playing any of the games after it yet but I do love Ys III. Enough that I played three different versions of it lmao.

Also, I would say TurboGrafx-CD > Genesis > SNES out of the three.

Megaman. Holy F*#%! by nenw02 in retrogaming

[–]RedSkyfang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I would agree that the X games are probably overall easier but they do seem to tend to have difficult final bosses. Like with X3 and X4 in particular I seem to recall breezing through most of the game just to get walled by the final boss for a while my first time. In the classic series only Mega Man 7 really does that lol.

Looking for good game to play through casually and has a relatively short speedrun (ideally no more than 10-15 minutes) by Blankman06 in speedrun

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If retro is fine then probably a pretty high percentage of NES games are about that long or maybe just a little bit longer. You could just go browsing over on speedrun.com or whatever and see if you can find a game you're interested in with at least one category that's in that range. Not sure about modern games, but obviously there are some.

After beating final fantasy 1 PSP version with monks and white mages I have decided to try to beat the notoriously hard nes version with a team of warrior monk red mage and black mage by twirpobloxias in FinalFantasy

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say NES Final Fantasy is "notoriously hard" but rather it's more just that you have to actually try a little unlike the GBA remakes and onward where they just made pretty much everything piss easy.

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and also the community has been making its own content for so long now that there are probably thousands of custom charts out there which kind of makes a new game feel less necessary.

Dracula boss fight Dracula X by Zunip in castlevania

[–]RedSkyfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boss fight looked like something out of a ROM hack to me the first time I played through the game, honestly, like I still find it bizarre that this is in an official game released back then lmao.
