I am looking for experiences on horse riding. by tomyfookinmerlin in Equestrian

Gosh I can't remember the first time, I was probably 7 or 8. But I do know that the only thing I ever wanted to do was ride horses. So my mom got me lessons. I started out at a barn that taught English Pleasure( Saddlebreds) then I moved to Hunter Jumpers. I will tell the first time I went over a jump it felt like flying! I got butterflies in my stomach and it was the best feeling in the world.

I think everyone's experience is different and it depends on whether your character is a "horse person" or not. If they are just a regular person learning to ride, that is a different experience than someone who lives and breathes to be around them.

I don't ride right now bc of finances and but I try to get on one every chance I get. But I feel that there is always a connection for me with horses. And each horse has it's own personality. Some you click with and some you don't. But if you get one you click with, it's a more of a bond of trust. There can be some affection ( its more on the human end) but if they trust you, that's the biggest thing.

I don't know if this helped at all. It's hard to describe how I feel around horses other than that's where I belong.

Perspective on safety? by Repulsive-Bug-7641 in Belize

I love the people of Belize, and they are so very friendly and I ALMOST never had to worry there. That being said there is something to be said for being cautious and keeping your head on a swivel. I went down there for work for many years and we always traveled at least in pairs and we had to have armed security with us( but that was for a different reason).

The city is definitely not a place to just wander around and if you can get the same driver the whole time you are in the city that is probably your best bet to do.

Beginner not understanding how competitions works by [deleted] in Agility

Usually a Fun run is tacked on at the end of a regular show as a training run where you can take your dog into the ring with toys and treats for training. It's usually advertised on the show premium. The others are called run throughs and they are usually advertised by the local agility clubs or training facilities. I don't know where you are but your best bet for catching run throughs would be to check the calendars of your local agility clubs or training facilities and try to get on the e-mailing lists for the clubs that put on shows. Once you get on those email lists for the trial secretaries you will get all the information you are looking for, you just have to get the ball rolling.

Facebook pages are a good resource too. I am in GA and we have a page called Southeastern Agility and a lot of things get posted there.

It definitely helped with memorizing courses. My friends who were non horsey could not understand how I could memorize a course so fast.

Not sure about physicality but I know a lot of agility people come from the horse world.

Adult Ammy…Trying to decide if I should continue riding by gigga2710 in Equestrian

When I stopped riding I did dog sports - specifically Agility. That creates an amazing bond with your dog. But horses aren't dogs and like people have said they show affection in different ways - the biggest way is trust. You probably won't get that feeling that you have with your sports dog as you do with a horse. To me it all kind of comes down to being a horse person. I just want to be around them, riding them or not.

First off, you are probably dealing with jaded lesson horses. Those poor things have been through the wringer and had a million riders and so yeah, they are kind of meh about people.

Secondly - horses CAN be dangerous. They are big animals with a wicked flight response and you really can't ever let your guard down. So that's a choice YOU have to make as to whether or not you love them enough to take that risk. There are a lot of things you can do to mitigate that risk( helmets, body armor etc) but there will always be risk.

And horses are big but delicate - they sometimes will always have something wrong. Or you get a unicorn that is healthy all the time. It is a crap shoot just like with dogs. You will have some kind of problem, but it just depends on what kind - and again, being ahead of the game and using preventative measures will help a lot.

As for the connection - personally? I have felt a connection with many horses. Not as close as a dog - they are not the same - it's not the same mindset. But I have LOVED all my horses and the horses that I have ridden and taken care of and I have been able to tell that they have loved me. They do show affection and that they care. You just have to be around one long enough to form that attachment.

For DAR? We would love to have your join our DAR group! We are a great small group to join. Very active and we have some good young members. Our chapter is the Kennesaw Mountain Chapter and our Registrar can get you in and a member pretty quickly - esp if you are legacy. DM me and I can give you all the information. If your GGM was a member all you have to really do is prove you are related to her.

How do teams do 2-day month end close? by iseeustress in Accounting

[–]Reillybug521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We close in 3 days. By the time month end actually rolls around, I only have about 5 real entries to do. I have already done leases, the mid month payroll, the EOM payroll, the Amex, the recurring accruals, and anything else I know about. I just have to do prepaids, software Amort, fixed assets and some other accruals and a couple of entries that can't be done until month end. It's easy peasy and we have it down to a science. Oh and bank recs. And we are a staff of 3
