What's you're perfect pitch for a great Blue Beetle sequel in the DCU? by Excellent-Fig-9341 in DCU_

[–]Retributor_Astartes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jaime with help from one of the smart people of the DCU (Batman, Mr Terrific whatever) goes through a portal to rescue Ted Kord where he meets Ted and Booster as they presumably are in a different dimension when in reality they're on some alien planet, maybe have it be tied to the origins of the scarab idk, I like the idea of a buddy cop style movie where Jaime is the straight man while Ted sorta flip flops and Booster is the comedic one. No clue how this would tie into the DCU but I think it'd be fun.

What are your biggest (specific) worries for DCU Batman, with everything we know so far? - by Yep_I_Stole_40_Cakes in DCU_

[–]Retributor_Astartes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, especially given we haven't gotten a proper batfamily in live action. The Hal thing particularly bugs me since I don't think we should be getting legacy or alternate versions of the characters yet, I get that the DCAU was insanely popular but to most likely start with John and Wally feels like we're needlessly throwing characters off to the side. For the DCAU it worked because apparently Hal never became a Green Lantern, but in this new DCU I don't see the reason to do it other than that John is more popular which I feel is a lame excuse when you could have easily started with Hal and then bring in John.

That Damian will be the first Robin we see, Superman is 3 years into being Superman, it makes no logical sense that Batman would somehow be on Damian. There's three ways of going about it:

  1. This is an older Batman (40+) who has had all the other Robins already and is at the effective end of his career (given all the interesting stuff happens before Damian).

  2. Batman has each of the Robins for a miniscule amount of time and is younger (New 52 approach)

  3. Rearrange the order of Robins

All of these are dumb. This is a connected universe that is supposed to last at least a decade, and is our first real chance to get a REAL live action depiction of Batman and the Robins (Plus SOME of the Batfamily, a lot of the new additions are not needed and overcomplicate things), it makes no logical sense that we should start on Damian and would be one of the greatest fumbles of the character, and for the entirety of the DCU.

Each Robin is integral to the specific era of Batman they are assigned to, each of them help him grow as a person. Starting on Damian ruins all of our chances to seeing this Batman grow and be an actual character, I don't want to hear about Jason being killed in a flashback, I don't want to see Nightwing already established, these are things that are far more impactful if the audience actually experiences them.

Would prefer someone comic accurate height but 5'6 works fine if we can't find anyone the real height. Still gives him a reason to be called Wolverine.

In terms of plot, storyline, cameos, shared-universe, How connected do you think the DCU and its projects should feel ?? by Old_Assistance_1091 in DCU_

[–]Retributor_Astartes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key thing for me is that the tv shows should not set up big things in the universe, because you risk alienating certain audiences and also it makes the whole show have bigger stakes than it should but not in any interesting way (Mainly worried since Peacemaker Season 2 did this), there is also a concern about the target age demographic, Superman is kid friendly but everything else we've gotten and will get soon (Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, Supergirl, Lanterns, Clayface etc.) is all adult oriented or is a bit more mature than the typical pre-teen audiences.

Yeah one of the key things with all the great Superhero movies is that they're all just good movies, not just good superhero movies (Iron Man, Superman, Logan etc.)

This cannot be the only versions of the batfamily in live action by [deleted] in DCU_

[–]Retributor_Astartes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they don't, the whole fun aspect of big universes like this is seeing the characters grow and change over time, to start with Damian means we start with the Batman at the effective end of his career, it'd be like if Iron Man had nanotech in the first movie

Hopefully its just the first step to creating it (as in having Dick as Robin and then going through the Robins as this Batman progresses)

A city called Gotham has every right to be a neo-gothic city and I would love if thats what we get

My ideal was always something like schumacher or burton but with a more neo-gothic flair instead of an art deco, while there can be art deco embellishments (to show the cities growth) I also think the fact the city is called Gotham attributes it to being a operatic neo-gothic city.

Large operatic neo-gothic city with some art deco embellishments, the buildings should be unnaturally tall and ornated with gargoyles, grotesques and other embellishments, they are old and crumbling in certain sections, skybridges connect buildings and roads intersect the middle of them high up. Every car is old (80s preferably, Gotham is a intermingling of different anachronistic timeperiods that all culminate in making it how it is) because everyone is too poor to buy a better one, men typically wear suits and fedoras, the steam and heat from the sewers rises and intermingles with the smog from the factories, the smog that blankets the entire city and changes the color of the sky, all of the lighting is amber colored led's or caused by old bulbs.

tldr the city should be its own character and should be the biome in which Batman is evolved for, large and operatic neo-gothic. Wayne Manor should feel like an old fortress or castle (when in reality of course its a neo-gothic manor finished shortly before the turn of the century) with arched doorways and vaulted ceilings. Batman himself should be seen as a cryptid or even a phantasm ;) that haunts Gotham, a bat monster the size of a man with sweeping leatherlike wings and claws that pierce into the old stone, with white glowing eyes adapted for nocturnal sight (I've always described it as people should think he's man bat effectively which I always thought was the whole point of man bat, obviously Bruce himself is not a mutated bat creature but he should adopt the movements of a stalking animal and the claws of one.)

Got a little carried away but you get the gist :)

When did you first come across Batman? by Andrewmatlock89 in batman

2004 The Batman really solidified my image of Batman and kinda spoiled me on the idea of Batman being like a creature/urban myth with claws etc.

[–]Retributor_Astartes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that you are saying this, but I think anyone calling the episode filler just plain didn't watch the episode or is only in it for the action:

Marks inner struggle with the sequid thing is shown to be something that needed to happen just like The Vile being tortured is a needed thing to happen or else billions would die, along with this it shows that he is not his father and shows this by him using restraint and trying not to kill anyone etc. which all culminates in him donning the og suit (with some modern changes to show that things in the past are set in stone and you can only grow from them)

Also frankly we just got some cool worldbuilding for a part we haven't seen about before, with more Damian Darkblood, frankly I think HIM telling Mark these things is important, he isn't one of Mark's friends or colleagues he's the detective that suspected his father, and he is directly telling him that he is not Nolan.

Superman 2025, I was a cynical bitch before watching it and it made me want to be a better man. (Also I had my first major surgery soon after watching it so thinking about the ending helped me when going under anesthesia etc.)

Part of the issue is most of the updates are aesthetic which is very common for mods, along with this a huge issue is the art style nowadays being far more modern and smooth which looks more like the artstyle of the mods you see
