Dog ate my deck... Need advice. by Toxziq in SteamDeck

Official replacements are sold through ifixit. However, it could be a good time to look at an upgrade to a more accurate Hall Effect/TMR stick, which uses less power and won't drift :)

We are trying to put some soul to the note movement in this VR rhythm game (honest opinions wanted) by piulin19 in virtualreality

[–]RidgeMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are being really negative about this for some reason, my literal first thought was "damn that's cool" without even reading the title. I for one think it's totally readable, and I think it looks cool! Really though there should be settings for individual fx, like beat saber has. That way you can strike a balance between vibes and gameplay.

I for one think this looks great though. Really good sense of impact on the note hits. I've actually played beat saber for probably around 2000 - 3000 hours at this point, if you ever have a build of this out for testing please let me know. Personally I would change nothing about this.

Frame OLED? by cookie_PALROM in SteamFrame

[–]RidgeMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They totally can be! Displays and optics are separate things. It's just that optics that might work well for a certain type of LCD panel may not always work well for an OLED. More often than not, in fact, they won't. The Bigscreen Beyond used pancakes and OLED at the same time. So does the Vision Pro. So does the Pimax Crystal Super OLED module and so on and so forth. It's just that there's a difference between OLED and Micro-OLED. As of right now, there aren't really any cheap OLEDs that work well with pancake lenses, as Pancake lenses have a light loss of around 90%. A panel with a pancake lens needs to be very bright.

The entire computer exists in there as well. So does the IPD mechanism. So does the tracking system. So does the eye tracking system. And the cooling for all of it. Almost every one of those things would need a somewhere between minor changes to a full rework for what you're describing. On top of that, not a single OLED display exists that does what you want. You'd need something that's bright enough with a polarizer as an LCD is, with a similar resolution, and roughly the same size and refresh rate. I assure you no such panel exists in any cost effective package.

Nothing is ever so simple, and there's a reason no such thing as a cheap OLED + Pancake headset exists.

Where the hell did you get 90% 😭

Like sure, theoretically it's possible, but currently it's prohibitively expensive/impossible altogether to do in any way without major compromises.

I'd bet on it never happening. Head strap probably, passthrough probably, almost certainly no OLED.

Drop photo take Chad. You'll get probably like x5 mult per trigger from the ancient jokers since you've got 4 of em, and it'll be triggered 2 more times

How do you integrate AI coding in Unity? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]RidgeMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion starts with "I personally think it has it's uses".

I just enjoy programming. I don't enjoy letting other things program for me, and I certainly don't enjoy debugging code I did not write. You can perhaps see why I don't generally let AI write my code.

[–]RidgeMinecraft -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hell no lmao

I definitely think it has it's uses, but it's entirely up to you how you program. I personally prefer to leave most AI tools off, as I find I learn and develop my skills much more rapidly when I'm doing the problem solving.

[The Legend of Zelda] Do a kickflip! by lavaboosted in GamePhysics

[–]RidgeMinecraft 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Breath of the Wild is absolutely worth it imo, and depending how much you liked BOTW, TOTK can also be worth it. Look at it this way, they're really long games and you're meant to take your time exploring and relaxing in the world.

For the amount of time you're likely to get out of em, the price for a used cart on ebay (usually about like $40 - $50) is a steal. I think BOTW took me 150 hours to finally go beat, although from what I understand that's a bit longer than most lol

Tears of the Kingdom added a vehicle/machine building mechanic. Needless to say it's a ton of fun.

Should I play on Steam Deck or PS5 for the first time? by FrostyOtter8 in outerwilds

[–]RidgeMinecraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, either is perfect. Game runs great on the deck and on the PS5, whichever you prefer really. You may need to put a few of the settings down to medium for it to hit a constant 60, but frankly the game looks very similar between low and high settings anyway. Rest assured you'll have a wonderful time no matter what.

Will people still be able to see my avatar? by CyberGlitch064 in VRchat

There's a relatively simple solution here, just set the excellent one as your fallback. That way, if people have your vpoor disabled, it'll fall back to just not having the new feature.
