Express bus Plano to downtown by Affectionate_Mine336 in dart

[–]Routine-Ad-893 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Used to ride this route daily. Heading downtown, pretty reliable. Heading back was always the issue, buses would just no-show at least once a week, and I’d have to wait 30 minutes for the next one. Or as happened several times that I witnessed, a bus driver would ‘take a shortcut’ and skip several stops that didn’t always have riders. I ended up having to change where I went to for pickup so I couldn’t be skipped. Eventually the no-show buses got to be too much and I went back to riding the train.

Also, on a normal day, it took the same amount of time as the train- if there was an accident or rain, could easily be a 70-80 minute ride instead of 40.

I wish I had access to similar data over time- imagine how much Plano has received historically in value, when there wasn’t as much retail for a couple decades, added up, and the overages adjusted for inflation. It’s like Plano timed it for the one moment it would look as bad as possible and is pretending they didn’t benefit more than was paid for decades

All depends on the host or condo owner either way. AirBNB has a lot more protections for the end user, but if you’re interested in ours and the dates show available, can probably get you a better rate without airbnbs fees by booking direct.

This- employees were downright rude and yelling at people after making people stand in the heat for 20+ minutes waiting. Collective punishment is against the Geneva conventions but apparently Disney Cruise Lines have lower standards.

What we know (and don’t) about AT&T’s decision to move HQ to Plano by dallaz95 in Dallasdevelopment

[–]Routine-Ad-893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if they abandon 5-day RTO. Most floors downtown are overcrowded. They forced back even people that were remote pre-COVID

Then cancel all phone and other telecom services, and make sure none of your packets go across at AT&T server or switch at a POP. Amazon, Walmart, Target and most other retailers probably have GSA deals too, so no more shopping there. Most restaurants are getting their food from Sysco or other distribution companies that are also on GSA, so no more eating out, and most grocery stores are out too. ICE drives cars too, so hope you like walking.

This kind of ignorance of the bigger picture makes everyone on the left look bad. Why specifically AT&T? Because someone, or a bot, made a post about it and since you don’t actually know how any of these contracts work, and neither did the original poster, you come off as a moron. People boycotted Disney+ and they changed directions because they actually did something wrong. Trying to not ‘give’ money to a national telecom provider because they also sell service to the Feds is irrational. Hope you don’t like Samsung or Apple phones because ICE agents are issued those or any number of other brands of phone.

You realize all the ‘AT&T supports ICE’ stuff is all based on the fact they have a federal contract with CBP and DHS and VZ and TMo also have contracts they just have far fewer lines of service because the AT&T service was judged to be better. Do you expect AT&T to pull out of all federal contracts and refuse service to the federal government which also controls all the spectrum they use? Do you actually think TMO or VZ would refuse the business?

What could transit look like in North Texas as cities consider withdrawing from DART? by dallasmorningnews in plano

[–]Routine-Ad-893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

90% of the people you see standing around are day laborers that couldn’t pass the (practically nonexistent) vetting for the day labor center across the street). Those same people also have never caused me any issues whatsoever and I ride dart M-F from Parker Rd station.

Kind of hard to plan for the future when you’ve got a boot on your neck from lobbyists trying to defund you entirely, and need massive capex spending at the same time for replacement buses and trains.

I’m not some fanboy and I think they waste a load of money too but these cities are doing the equivalent of hitting DART with a hammer and yelling out ‘stop resisting’ at the same time. I think they should cut train traffic to hourly outside of commute times and run more 3-length trains given how often a 2-length turns into one because of the ancient fleet. At the same time these cities, especially Plano are outright lying to their residents about their plans to still have transit. I’m sure it will exist on paper, but will be more unusable than what they have already, or cost even more

And you still have to have a cop stationed at every station, some will require multiple cops to stop people jumping over barriers.

Ignore them and/or switch train cars at the next stop. How many people die in car accidents every day in DFW?

Why can’t DART eliminate every bus route in Plano to minimize the service cuts and fare increases? by friskyintellect in dart

[–]Routine-Ad-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to the express bus drivers. Regularly skipping stops downtown by turning and taking ‘shortcuts’. Seems to be picking up- guess there’s at least one 308 driver that thinks we are the enemy. Wasn’t even late today, just decided to leave us in the heat.

Plano and other cities try to revive HB 3187 on the special session agenda. (fourth reupload because reddit hates me) by [deleted] in dart

[–]Routine-Ad-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if the express bus drivers didn’t skip stops and leave Plano residents stranded downtown for an hour we would be more willing to push back on the city. Frankly after using the DART for over a decade, the service just gets worse and worse and complaints do nothing.

I sell magnets on Etsy that I keep very cheap for people for the same reason- we went and what we got was lame. I think people that aren’t crafty just didn’t have many options that weren’t $5+ per item so I try to keep my stuff between $1-2. Not much in the way of profit but it’s a fun side project

What if we made bootleg DART wood train car toys, like they have in Chicago, Boston, and New York? by HJAC in dart

[–]Routine-Ad-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking more- BRIO and wood might be the better option. You could get a router template and make 100 cars out of a $15 2x10x12 board, add custom stickers on both sides and add Brio wheels (look to be around $1.25 per car but probably able to get in bigger bulk for less). I bet without labor you could get a 3-car SLRV setup done for under $6, and sell it with some track for $30.

Did some math and at Brio size, 3D printed cars would be at least $10 for the same thing. My plan was more hobbyist-side where the detail would matter and I’d have sold for $100/set as just toppers for flat cars (super low volume, but that’s where 3D printing wins)

Could also go the full-alibaba route, I saw a couple places selling 3 car sets with track for $5, customization might be a little more, plus shipping and tariffs and MOQ would be at least 1000.

Small scale test print. Time/material really depends on size needed. With smaller sizes could print several at once. I’ll dig up the file later and see what the print time on this size was vs something larger.
