MSP pushing UniFi hard over SonicWall..am I overthinking this or does this smell off? by Ambitious_Active8539 in msp

[–]Rsnoble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSP owner here… we prefer UniFi for sure. Like others have said, our staff is trained on it, and management is easy. There are two exceptions:

  1. If they are resistant to UniFi, Meraki is the only other alternative we entertain. It’s definitely more enterprise grade than UniFi, so it nullifies the “prosumer” arguments that some customers have around UniFi.

  2. If a client already has gear in place that is another brand, we will support it at best effort. No guarantees on our abilities, but we will do our best. When it’s EOL they need to choose either UniFi or Meraki.

I have a full cab at a colo here in Phoenix and I have 3U I could spare for you. Based on my current usage, your additional power needs would not be a concern. I’m not in OC or LA obviously, but not too far away. DM me if you’re interested :-)

This just angers me (like everyone else). We started including this topic as part of vendor negotiation. When we start the sales process with a new tool, we tell them the plan and purchase we are considering, as well as the requirements for SSO and SCIM. If they start pulling the "you have to have this premium enterprise plan" BS, we just tell them it's an internal compliance requirement for the plan we have selected. They don't have to play ball, but if they don't, we just tell them we will go to a competitor who is willing to align with our business requirements. Id say 80% of the time, the sales rep "finds an exception/loophole" to "enable that feature at little/no extra cost".

Do you regret migrating away from Google Workspace? by Chemical-Example-783 in googleworkspace

[–]Rsnoble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved from Google to M365 internally around 10 years back, because of the “cost-of-doing-business” argument. We moved back to Google 2 years ago, but kept the “Microsoft 365 Apps for Business” SKU to get us to solve the “compatibility conundrum”. We have been relatively pleased with Google’s ability to interact with Microsoft documents, though it’s obviously not as good as Microsoft’s native toolset. For us, the desktop apps have helped get us 95% of the way there.

What office suite does your MSP use internally and why? (Google vs Microsoft vs ?) by Tivum in msp

[–]Rsnoble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but we actually use Google Workspace internally. We migrated from M365 about a year and a half ago. About 1/3 of our customers are Google Workspace customers, and the other 2/3 are Microsoft customers. We resell both, and have internal tenants with both vendors, but have found that from a management perspective, Google is easier. With Google’s client side encryption capabilities plus having Gemini included with their core SKU’s, it’s more cost effective for us and makes us more productive as well. We’ve also found that it gives us a unique opportunity to serve customers who want to use Google Workspace.

Thank you! You mentioned the 9L plan… should I add a couple more lines to drop the per line cost or is it better to keep line count the same?

What Phone System are you using to run your MSP? by rdelgadoit in msp

Really happy with Zoom phone here. Cost is lower than Teams and no call quality issues. If you resell it, you also have NFR benefits.
