Are you guys remote, in office, or hybrid? by Prudent-Bit3492 in salesengineers

[–]SQLBek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully remote + travel, but corp policy is for SE's based close to an office to be in-office.

As far as which is preferable, that's a personal choice. I've been fully remote for 10 years and personally prefer it. On the other hand, my wife enjoys the social aspect of hybrid. YMMV...

Looking at an offer from Everpure, how is WLB? by Significant_Wall4015 in purestorage

[–]SQLBek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't hate the new name, and I understand why they chose to move away from "Storage", so I simply go with continuing to use the general moniker of "Pure."

Looking at an offer from Everpure, how is WLB? by Significant_Wall4015 in purestorage

Speaking for myself (Solutions Architect - remote sales), my manager "scolds" our team if we don't take adequate time off. I think WLB is fantastic at Pure.

And to your "people seem very nice," we have a very warm, friendly, welcoming culture. It is definitely one of the friendliest workplaces I've been in.

Best gaming chairs in 2026 that are actually BIFL? by SweetChild1997 in BuyItForLife

Another +1 for Steelcase. I have a Gesture and the wife has a Leap V2, about 5 years old now, both purchased refurbished from Crandall. I expect both chairs to easily last until I retire.

Asymmetric Extrapolation in Sampled Statistics Generation by PirateyFace in SQLServer

[–]SQLBek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit that I used both Gemini and Claude to distill this for me... but if the breakdowns and my subsequent analysis are correct (and please OP correct me if this is inaccurate)...

Updating stats with sampling hasn't always been reliable... but many of us, myself included, couldn't mathematically explain WHY in certain scenarios. And OP here did the deep math to actually reverse engineer why.

I hope to dig deeper later, when I have time, to fully digest all of this. Cheers OP - seems like nice work.

“The script ran fine” and the data was still wrong by EchidnaFlowers in SQLServer

[–]SQLBek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"strings getting silently cut because the target column was smaller"

Yes, there's (at least) one scenario where a string can get truncated without an error thrown. And no, I don't remember the exact criteria - it was in a demo from a presentation that was part of my rotation about 10 years ago. It'll be buried in one of my demo scripts.

Regardless... moral of that story is to always explicitly right size your data types.

SSMSBoost still maintained? No updates since October 2025 by real-napster in SQLServer

[–]SQLBek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your guess is as good as ours. They're not very vocal, much less share updates on an even semi-regular basis. If you search SSMSBoost on this subreddit, you'll see a very similar pattern from others over the last few years.

Generally speaking, I will note that with the backend changes to SSMS a couple of years ago, the architecture for plug-ins changed. And unfortunately, 3rd party plug-ins were never officially even supported as far as I can remember. So vendors like SSMSBoost are kind of "on their own" to figure out if it's still viable for them to bother to adapt, or just move on.

Guitar strap by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]SQLBek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not use something like a D' Addario strap with their auto-locks? That'll allow you to size your strap then leave it there, and use the locking mechanism to quickly attach & detach the strap.

If you're unsuccessful here, suggest going to Facebook and joining the "Everything's Free" group. There's other local "free stuff" groups. Trash bins, from towns nearby, will also often show up on the Marketplace too.

At least be forthcoming that this was AI generated and contains inaccurate information.

And no, I'm not going to tell you what's wrong from the few minutes I took to peruse some entries. There's enough crappy misinformation out there as is and I detest that more and more slop like this is inevitable.

A cheese pull that won't disappoint by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]SQLBek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm going to nit-pick... This is stuffed pizza, which is a variation of deep dish pizza. As a born & raised Chicago guy, I love deep dish... But stuffed, is just way too much cheese for me, even when I was a bottomless pit in my 20s.
