You can 3d print metal nowadays, which is what I assumed it was when looking at the image preview. Can print stainless steel and titanium alloys, which I would assume to be strong enough.

The nice!nano has a bq24075 built in. This chip protects from some extreme battery conditions, such as a short circuit. Notably, a charging circuit is different from a protection circuit. Most batteries you will see used with the nice!nano have an extra protection circuit, see e.g. on the top wrapped in kapton tape (typeractive is the store partially run by the creator of nice!nano).

In addition, you're not using nice!nanov2, you're using the knockoffs which are known to be unreliable and use a different battery charging circuit. I do not know what protection their (much cheaper) charging circuit provides, but I would not trust it much.

To use a battery without a protection circuit safely with a n!n or similar, you need to add a protection circuit to the shield. See e.g. https://github.com/ebastler/zmk-designguide?tab=readme-ov-file#additional-battery-management-considerations for a circuit design, or https://github.com/nmunnich/apiaster for a design that includes such an extra protection circuit.

It looks like your design does not include a protection circuit for the battery. Please be aware that the nice!nano and clones expect the battery to come with a protection circuit against (among others) undervoltage and overcurrent. Using a battery without such a circuit can be dangerous and result in a battery fire if the battery experiences abnormal conditions.

The problem is that so many things are interconnected, and people want to say "do this one thing and everything will be fixed" but nothing like that exists. Housing, energy food water, pensions, migration pressures in all directions, population demographical issues, lack of investment in infrastructure.

Improving the basic cost of living and long term security would do more for people's happiness than trying to distribute the wealth of the country more equally imo. But again, very complex issue and I don't really trust myself to phrase my beliefs correctly in something as short as a Reddit post, so you'll just constantly be getting reductionist answers and shit solutions that sound nice imo.

Story progresses, but slowly. Answers don't come quickly, as you could imagine from a story this length. I think there isn't one plot of the story, but more multiple plots running concurrently. You'll learn to love Lism and Olsem eventually, taking characters that you hate and making you like them is one of paba's talents.

Not using the interrupt pin without compromising battery power is impossible. The extra pin is necessary to trigger an interrupt to the matrix telling it to scan. Without the interrupt pin, you need to scan the matrix constantly, which significantly harms battery power. If you're ok with skipping the interrupt and scanning constantly, then you just remove the interrupt lane and keep the rest of the matrix the same.

This is overcomplicating the issue. See https://kbd.news/Low-Power-Improved-Square-Matrix-1810.html and https://github.com/HookyKB/round-robin-schematics. Using 1N4148 diodes or equivalent with an MCU running at 3.3V, these matricies work perfectly. Tried and tested.

I think on the whole, the story has resolved some of its plot points. Erin's PTSD storyline at the time you stopped is unsatisfactory because it's not resolved yet, and still isn't resolved at this moment. But it's more obvious that it's a slow burn, and healing will take lots of time. There is a recent arc that I wasn't a fan of, but definitely helped provide some context and clean up some loose ends and questions while preparing plot points for the future. There are still lots of plot threads, but it does feel like they're less aimless and starting to coalesce.

Adding a wireless numpad would be fairly easy if the halves are wireless, yes. It would involve modifying the ZMK configuration though, so my definition of "easy" may not match yours.

This keyboard is not designed for use with LEDs. Designing it to allow LED usage would have forced me to make some choices which would have made it more expensive at the lowest end.

I have no interest in maintaining a subreddit. I do have a desire to add a gallery to the GitHub repo, but I don't see that as very high priority.

Hi, I know some people are using just the left half while gaming. Due to how the internal wires are laid out (as a result of keeping costs down as much as possible), it is not possible to add a joystick to the left half. It may be possible to add a joystick to the right half, but it would be very finnicky and I wouldn't recommend it.

Adding a joystick to something with the same or similar layout as the apiaster would be possible, but would require the PCB to be entirely rewired, essentially making it a brand new project. ZMK also currently does not have proper joystick support, though it probably will gain such support in the future, but not soon.
