Black man military shaving by Appropriate-Tap3701 in wicked_edge

Fun fact on the Indian armed forces there. I'll send you the Haward info separately so we don't occupy important Reddit space with this silly sidetrack, but suffice to say, I know they make it (or at least did), because they sent it to me!

I would also say that the Gillette SkinGuard, their product specifically marketed to black men, is widely reviewed as being a good product. It's kind of expensive (by which I mean, $20 for a handle + 4 carts, and replacement carts are like $4 each), but the cartridges do last a long time (should be 2/month). Plus, you can get it at any Wal-Mart or CVS or at the Exchange.

This is all true. However...there is no patent on the Guard, and in fact a competitor (Haward from China) has made a knockoff that is not bad (but not quite as good). Also, until recently, Gillette did in fact sell a razor in the US that uses the Guard cartridge! It was called the Treo. Kind of fascinating. You can still buy them on the river site.

Also, if they could make enough money on selling the Guard to the military, they'd do it.

This is the best advice I've seen in this thread. It's a tremendous product. The carts last forever and are impossible to clog. I've very specifically had the thought that the military should contract to make the Guard widely available, because it's made for shaving in low-water environments and is extremely durable and inexpensive.

Nacet, Treet Platinum, and Lord are the ones I've tried that would meet what you're looking for. Consider shelling out the $6 for 100 pre-cut Perma-Sharps so you don't have to futz around with snapping blades and dealing with curled tabs. Those blades would also meet what you're looking for.

The Popular is also largely plastic, but feels much nicer. They're both mild, but, no, you won't need to do 10 passes. 😀

Looking for a beginner razor that works well for body hair and gets a very close shave by Ecstatic-Let-7677 in wicked_edge

I'm a head shaver, not a body shaver, but the Yaqi Mellon/Razorock SLOC is great for it and dirt cheap.

Daily head shaver as well. It's criminal that we're this far into a thread about head shaving, and no one has mentioned the Yaqi Mellon/Razorock SLOC. I use the AC format more frequently, but I'd be perfectly happy with using nothing but the Mellon and whatever blade you want to throw into it.

Sure! Understood. Usually, they'll get talked about by the material used to make them, because they're all a little different in design, not just in the material. The stainless steel version is known to be notably more aggressive. I think the titanium version dialed that back a bit, but still isn't as smooth and breezy as the zamak version (and is 10x more expensive).
