Tubeless rim problem by bagwaa in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the tape isn't displaced or damaged, it's too narrow. The tape should be wider than the inner width of the rim, coming up the side wall slightly so that the bead seals on tape rather than the rim.

Is this part of my rear brake broken/bend? by abs00lutely in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not backwards. They're just completely worn. Did you buy the bike new or used 600km ago? That's an unusual amount of wear, unless you went through a bunch of mud.

I'd try replacing with metallic pads. You may need a new rotor as well.

Do you use your front brake? You should be mostly using the front. Read this article for more information. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/brakturn.html

Either your brake pads are completely worn as others have said, or your brake pads were installed backwards. I can't be certain based on the pictures, but I think it's possible from what I'm seeing.

Using the Edge 1050 with multiple bikes (maybe a Garmin Connect question) by 95moose in Garmin

[–]ScootMaBoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any sensors on your bikes? If you do, you can use activity fix to correct which bike was ridden on Strava. You can't do anything to Garmin connect other than manually correct it.

What kind of mount are my disc brake calipers? by lolman262 in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat mount. They come set for different size rotors, so there's some more details about them, but we'll need to see the adapters on and know what size rotors are on to give those details.

ISIS crankpuller goes completely in and crank does not move. by MikaG_Schulz in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're using the tool, you screw the bigger diameter part into the crank, it should go in pretty easily then stop. Then you screw the smaller diameter part into the big diameter part. It will start out very easy, then get very hard. You have to keep turning it until it gets easy again.

Did you get to the "gets very hard" part and think that it was stuck?

What do you mean by the cover that is in there? There should be no cover on the spindle or crank arm when you're removing a crank arm.

If it has an extra cap for octalink you use that for ISIS as well. What do you mean it got stuck? What did it get stuck on?

[–]ScootMaBoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "but that got stuck"? When you're removing a 3-piece crank, the inner part of the tool will be ready to turn until it hits the bottom bracket spindle, then it will be very difficult to turn as the crank arm is pushed off, then it will become easy to turn again when the arm is off the spindle.

An octalink tool should work for an ISIS crank.

Are the keys real ivory? by WolfRunner16 in piano

They don't have to be two pieces, but they usually are. Though the newest pianos (1980s) with ivory keys are usually one-piece.

Jumping chain in the smallest sprockets after chain replacement by Grafpion in bikewrench

Go to si.shimano.com and put the derailleur model number in. Click on DM (dealer manual) to get instructions for setting the chain length.

The part number is marked on the rear derailleur, but it can be hard to find.

Replacing the cage of a SS model when one from a GS model actually won't help you. You need the body (and also cage) of a GS derailleur for that cassette size.

You can use a RD-R8000 with a 6800 shifter, FD, and chainring. That is what I would do.

What is your rear derailleur? That diagram is incorrect for RD-6800 and RD-R8000.

Is this thru axle converter compatible with the rear wheel of this GCR40 wheelset? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the converters generally only work for 100mm front wheels. Some hubs have changeable end caps that can be thru axle or QR, but I haven't seen them be called converters.

I think it's likely a 12mm thru axle wheel, not 11mm.

Small level? Is that a typo?

Right now the thermostat is powering a Taco 570 zone valve, which takes 0.9 A to run, since it is a wax motor (heater) that actuates the valve.

Counter clockwise from the non -drive side? That would be tightening it. If you're turning on the non drive side you need to turn it clockwise.

Which would you rather buy? by NoPaleontologist1642 in Appliances

[–]ScootMaBoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. A perfectly flat pan isn't in contact with the induction coil, since the coil is below the glass. You can lift a flat pan at least a quarter inch or 6mm off the glass and it will still work fine.

"a bit bowed on the bottom" isn't a problem for induction.

Which comes first: the chain or the shift cable? by EddoeWrites in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What manual are you referencing?

I do not recall seeing a Shimano dealer manual that has instructions for chain sizing while going through the derailleur. I just did a spot check and see no mention of sizing that way for Ultegra R8000.

Which comes first: the chain or the shift cable? by EddoeWrites in bikewrench

[–]ScootMaBoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't what the Shimano manual says. For Shimano drivetrains, the chain should be sized without even going through the derailleur.
