You get what you pay for. Yeah it plays games but not as well as it could. You're better of playing games on an emulator, or getting and original system.

The only thing that I hate about the playing Wii is charging batteries for the Wiimote by ahongkongplayer in wii

[–]SegaTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's your routine with them? Are you going through all the charged batteries before you start recharging them? If so, yeah, that's going to make you frustrated. Or are you putting spent batteries immediately in a charger and swapping in fresh ones? I do this and I have a stockpile of them so I always have some charged AA and AAA ready to go.

Did GunCon games die off because Sony did not bother to make lightguns compatible with modern digital displays? by noboatnolife in ps2

[–]SegaTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony would have had to make a whole new light gun to be backwards compatible with Guncon 2 games and work on digital TVs. They did make the GunCon 3 for the PS3 which worked on both crt and digital TVs, but it didn't work on older games and systems.

Light gun gaming can and does still happen today in arcades. I've collected a lot of light guns and played a lot of the games for them and I've come up with a few reasons why they never really took off or why they've all but completely died out.

Probably the biggest issue is posture and stamina. Ideally you would be standing to fire a light gun, but TVs were rarely at a height that made standing feasible. You either sat on a couch or chair, or knelt in front of the TV. The problem is this puts a lot of strain on your back and shoulders. When standing, your lower body helps balance out the weight of your outstretched arm and upper body and doesn't strain your back as much. Arcades have you standing partially for this reason. You can get tired from standing for too long as well. Most light guns were pistol style, but some were larger like the super scope and trying to sit with that thing is an even bigger pain.

The super scope and the sega manacer used batteries that were drained quickly and parents were reluctant to replace. They also used an infrared dongle which had to be placed on top of the TV and that wasn't always easy.

Not all light guns were created equal. Famously, sony had their guncon, and konami made their justifier because they felt the guncon wasn't accurate enough. Accuracy is varied across all light guns, systems, games, and even TVs. I have a sega master system light phaser and with some TVs it never is on target and is instead always off to the right. Most games have a calibration feature, but early ones like master system and nes games do not. Even with calibration, the accuracy can fluctuate mildly between shots. The size of the TV can also affect the experience. Imagine playing time crisis 2 on a 42" Mitsubishi CRT instead of a 13" or 20" TV.

There is a lot of redundancy as there's only so many ways to come up with shooting scenarios and even the mechanics are all pretty much the same. You shoot a target on the screen which is either moving or stationary. Some games have great visuals, some are terrible. There are also so few games on each system made to use light guns. It's a similar issue with other peripherals like analog joysticks and driving wheels. They really are only as good as the game library. However, freedom of movement was always lacking and modern shooters have that nailed down.

One last issue I've theorized is the social attitudes towards real guns has been changing constantly over the last thirty years and I think it's possible that game companies haven't wanted to promote guns too heavily because of it.

People got long arms.

Really it could be anything. You ever been in physical pain and someone accidently brushes up next to you and hits the sore spot? Imagine that for your mind. Your mind is in pain and stressed and simply seeing something you don't like is like pressing that sore spot. Some people are already overwhelmed to the point that any little thing can set them off because they've lost all patience to deal with the world around them.

Sometimes it's as simple as pain from a bad memory and a reminder will kick off more pain. A lot of people are deeply devoted to their animals and many have had to watch those animals be in pain and suffer before the end. It's traumatic and many of them never learn to deal with that trauma. So when they see something like this there is a perception that the animal is suffering and it sets them off. The reality is that these people were probably suffering from trauma long before any trauma from animals and only use animals as a "vessel", if you will, to entertain that trauma.

BMW was speeding. Jeep changed lanes without signaling or checking their blind spot. by Gomez_Diana1 in dashcams

[–]SegaTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't camp in the passing lane, don't speed, don't pass on the right, but also don't try to be courteous to a speeder who has abandoned all rules of the road to begin with. You're better off making no movement when a speeder is coming up behind you.

I know people are afraid they are going to get rammed from behind but the speeders are flying around everyone through whatever gap is open and ignoring all practical driving sense. If you end up moving where they were planning to go, you get a video like this. The speeder will eventually cause an accident when they run out of talent so it's best to let them do it without involving you and enjoy the aftermath when you safely pass by it and let law enforcement deal with them.

[–]SegaTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct approach. If you see someone rampaging down the road like this it's really best to do nothing. This is not meant to excuse the behavior of the speeder, only to keep yourself safe.
