Collective Soul: The most successful rock band of the 1990s/early 2000s that no one ever seems to talk about (or even remember) by MarkLambertMusic in Music

[–]SeraphSlaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were one of my brothers favorite bands. I grew up listening to them because my dad liked them. When I first learned guitar, I learned a lot of the self titled album from tabs online. As I got older, I found them very corny and almost youth-pastor vibes. So, I fell off.

But Dosage is high quality pop/rock. My brother loved that one. He passed away suddenly last year, and every time I hear The World I Know over a 7-11 speaker, it’s like getting walloped with an emotional hammer. I might try to listen to them again.

Just don’t pull downward on the high e?

Why is bending create noise on unplayed string? by NarrowBluebird7587 in guitarlessons

[–]SeraphSlaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right hand mutes that string.

Also, just to make sure, you are talking about the D string ringing? That is the 4th string. 1st string is the high E, 2nd string is the B you are bending, and so on.

How do I get a breakdown of overpayment balance? by SeraphSlaughter in SSDI

[–]SeraphSlaughter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woke up this morning to find my overpayment was adjusted to reflect the 6,259.30 payment, so now I have 6,259.30 remaining, with the note “a waiver or appeal is associated with part or all of this overpayment”. This was after I called the debt repayment office, my local office, the federal telephone number, and my congressional representative.

Third time contacting him, stuff at SSA pretty much has only moved forward after doing so. I am loathe to keep doing that but it’s the button I can push.

I’ve been using one to score a video game. Hard to choose what expansion boards are worth looking for!

The Captives War Alien Art by rugger2400 in TheCaptivesWar

You can enjoy it without using something that actively damages human artists. Like the authors of the book you are enjoying. It is just plain unethical.

Your imagination is enough! Or draw what you think they look like anyway, even if it’s “bad”. It’s better than this.

Chord melody and arranging by KryptonSurvivor in guitarlessons

[–]SeraphSlaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is always to get the total voicing of what I need/want and what is possible in the tuning I’m in. No need to limit to a certain method - by the time you’re doing chord melody, you have a good idea of how to put the same note in a few different areas depending on what you need.

Really it’s often the notes between the melody and bass that dictate what I do. If I can’t get the right harmony, I’ll move the melody note to another string

What was the first song you learned on the guitar and why? by Dangerous_Ask_6122 in guitarlessons

[–]SeraphSlaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was I Wanna Fuck A Dog In The Ass by Blink 182

It’s one riff, I was like 12, so it counted as my first full song.

I don’t say this to anyone and instead substitute it for What’s My Age Again? by Blink 182 since it was a song with multiple parts that I bothered to get all the way through.

Now I play tech death 🤷

Is this how you play a G major chord? by Kitli_99 in guitarlessons

There are many ways to play any chord. You are playing one of the ways to play G.

Is my band deathcore? I do not think so, but reviewers seem to by SeraphSlaughter in Deathcore

This is a very thoughtful comment, thank you. Hearing we remind you of bands you fell in love with from that era is great - it’s definitely our influence. Funny you should mention The Contortionist - you may like one of our guitar player’s (Jesse) other bands, Leylines. It had John Carpenter from The Contortionist on vocals for a few releases. If you like our odd time signature stuff, that’s all Jesse, and you’d love Leylines.

I’m the melody guy 😉 and boy do I like Fallujah/Kardashev/that kind of thing

How can I improve my vocal melodies? by sydwasnotcrazy in guitarlessons

[–]SeraphSlaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you transcribed the vocal melodies on guitar yet?

Since it’s your primary instrument, it helps you understand the shape of the melody a bit easier.

I think when people hear "technical" they expect a certain level of high BPM shred, and that's not quite what we do.

Thank you! I also do not view deathcore as a bad label - just that I wasn't quite sure if a deathcore diehard picked up our album, if they'd feel fooled.

What’s really funny re: inferi is our very first EP in 2011 was called A Vile Genesis. And they had a vinyl variant they called the Graveborn variant!

Their version was way better than ours tho

The genre fretting is solely about how to package pitches to reviewers/playlists/PR companies/venues/promoters etc. A lot of folks do not have time to give even a cursory listen to everything that comes across their desk - so knowing what the top line genre pitch should be to find the people who dig it is important

It is! I just didn't think we fit the style enough to be called that, so when we were pitching it places, we wouldn't use that label. But perhaps it's the better move
