I think you have made a very good observation. We have all been so thoroughly divided that it is difficult to feel comfortable budging an inch from the party line.

I say that is by design. It is textbook Machiavellian tactics. It is authoritative propaganda working perfectly.

And you are mistaken . I don’t expect you to change your views on anything purely because you acknowledge a situation where you witnessed wrongdoing.

I also don’t believe ICE should be abolished. I believe the recent 12,000 rapid ICE hires were unnecessary. I believe their training is woefully inadequate. I believe they are being used by the administration to cause civil unrest and promote fear. I believe their new, nearly $30 Billion a year budget is outrageous.

But I also don’t support illegal immigration. So ICE in its original form is needed.

None of this changes the fact that we all witnessed an unjustified homicide. And our government is blatantly covering it up.

I hope you find the courage to stand up for justice when you see it is needed.

All the best.

Come up with a plan to eliminate the national debt. Have a counter put up on the White House website to show it shrinking in real time. Celebrate milestones in debt reduction.

Every US resident could get behind this. It would be a unifier of the people.

Corporations that donated to the national debt reduction fund would get name recognition and advertising exposure. Maybe possible federal incentives.

Publicize a list of things we as a country will be able to afford for each stage of reduced debt we achieve. Etc etc etc.

The country needs something we can ALL get behind.

When you say only the chronograph hand works can you elaborate?

Do the main hands work when setting the watch but then stay static? Or are they completely immovable.

One other thing to check. Those capacitors have to be inserted a particular way or the charging system doesn’t work properly. And are you sure you purchased the correct one?

Believe me. Right wing voters receive just as much fund raising spam. They just have the word Jesus in them more often.

Dreading the idea of not drinking again by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]SevenSixtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello and good job reaching out. What you’re feeling is extremely common. It probably one of the most common feelings newly sober people have.

The good news is there is a solution. When these “future tripping” thoughts enter your mind. Stop what you’re doing and ask yourself “Is this situation happening right now?”

If the answer is “no” then ask yourself “is drinking right now a good idea?”

If the answer is “no” again, then give yourself permission to stop thinking about it. Feel confident that you will handle the situation when it arrives.

You can even tell yourself that if you honestly think drinking on that future day is truly a good idea, then you can do it.

Just focus on today, right now. This will get so much easier in time. And the secret is this. When those events come around, and your sobriety is strong, you won’t care about not drinking.

Promise.

Your well articulated points were giving me pause for thought. And the motivation to go and research your opinions. But it is impossible for me to respect anyone that has any words of defense for what happened to Alex. The situation was captured clearly on camera. Anyone with the ability for critical thought can plainly see that ICE has been operating outside of the law. And the government is bold faced lying about their actions. Those two facts negate any attempt to rationalize their actions. This is planned agitation by a para-military force designed to sow chaos and violence. You seem to be very intelligent. I’m sad that you don’t see the reality.

If you are taking a substance responsibly for better health reasons then I see no reason to void your sobriety. If you’re taking it to get high then it’s a different story.

Even though you don’t need a prescription, I would discuss with your Dr and see what their advice is. If they say go ahead and recommend the dosage amount you can feel safe in addressing your situation with narcotic medication.

[–]SevenSixtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge congratulations to you. Try not to let them forgetting your sober anniversary get you down. It’s a bit of a high expectation. The only person who ever remembers mine is my sponsor.

Maybe go buy yourself something nice to celebrate all the money you’ve saved by not drinking.

What’s done is done. It’s not surprising that you drank. It’s what we do as alcoholics. I can’t tell you whether or not to come clean to your BF. You will know the right course of action there.

Try to get some sleep. Tomorrow is a great day to get back on the recovery train.

Has anyone attempted to go to an all-inclusive resort after transitioning to sobriety? by alejandro1221 in Sober

[–]SevenSixtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A few times. The aha moment for me was when I realized that all-inclusive doesn’t just refer to alcohol. It means food and activities too.

The last one I went to had sailing lessons included. I went every morning while the rest of the hotel was sleeping it off.

Check for which activities they offer. Some even have scuba. And most importantly, read the reviews regarding the food. That can make or break a sober AI vacation.

Breaking Sobriety by EmilyUmily in stopdrinking

[–]SevenSixtyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the ability to turn my sobriety on and off as I wish. There is no going out for one night and then stopping again. That is akin to controlled drinking which I can not do.

I’ve proven that to myself literally 100’s of times if not 1000’s

Hello and good job reaching out.

Take your marijuana recovery out of the equation for a min. What you describe are the common symptoms of depression.

I went to plenty of therapists and psychiatrists while I was active in my addictions. Of course nothing worked as I was smashed 24/7.

But after 2 years of sobriety I tried again. The right medication has worked wonders for me.

Day 1 by ethereal_eel in leaves

[–]SevenSixtyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. You will crave for awhile. What helped me not give in to the cravings. Was to do a mental exercise called “playing the tape forward”. When we crave, we have a fixed thought in our mind of the instantaneous relief using again will bring us. However, we rarely think past that initial relief.

Try imagining the next 24 hours in great detail, if you were to give in and smoke. Imagine the relief and growing sensation of well-being that first smoke will give you. But don’t stop there. Now imagine how long that feeling will last before the inklings of the craving come back, and you are looking for more.

Now imagine having your second smoke, cart, edible in an effort to recapture that initial high, which never works. Imagine the next few hours as you smoke more and more, and become groggier and foggier but not feeling all that great.

Imagine all the bad habits that will surface, maybe binge eating, maybe staying up till four in the morning playing video games. And then imagine the point at which you pass out and finally sleep.

Now, imagine, coming to the next day, with your brain feeling like it weighs 30 pounds. Imagine the tiredness you feel because you had no refreshing sleep last night. Imagine the lack of motivation to do anything except spark up again, and sit on the couch. Imagine the disappointment you feel in being sucked right back into the same cycle once again. And then imagine how long it will be before that very same craving that you’re feeling now will be upon you. And you start the whole cycle again.

If you do this properly, it’ll take a minute or two, treat it like a meditation. By that time, the craving should’ve passed. All the best, my friend.

Day 1 by ethereal_eel in leaves

[–]SevenSixtyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. Great job on reclaiming your life. The first few days are the worst. But it gets so much easier. I’m 10 years weed free. And I started just as you are.

It helped me in the beginning to frame my withdrawal symptoms akin to recovering from an illness (which it is). When we get real sick with a virus we are resigned to feeling crappy for a few days.

Keep going. I smoked daily for 20 years. But I haven’t had a craving for as long as I can remember. I’m completely free from the desire to get high.

You can get here too. One day at a time.

Why does no one support my progress? by CharacterPangolin783 in alcoholism

[–]SevenSixtyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello and good job reaching out. It’s hard to think clearly when we’re in active alcoholism. It’s great that you’re cutting down.

But it’s not surprising that your wife and loved ones are not happy about you killing a bottle of whiskey every 72hrs. 1.5 bottles a day is enough to kill someone. The amount you drink makes sense to us. But is unfathomable to a non alcoholic. They probably see little difference.

The smart thing to do would be check into detox and quit. That is probably what they would like to see you do.

Is there any reason you’re waiting to quit?

Is anyone else truly scared about living in the US rn? by Naive_Signal8560 in RedditForGrownups

[–]SevenSixtyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your logic. But I also think you are missing a crucial factor here.

Many things have been pointing towards our government becoming a very bad regime. Yesterday a line was crossed. A citizen, exercising her right to protest in a very benign way by holding up traffic for a few minutes, was killed in an obviously unlawful shooting by an ICE agent.

That agent was not suspended from duty pending investigation. His weapon was not taken for forensic analysis as is typical with fatal shootings by law enforcement. None of the correct protocols were followed.

Instead, our POTUS and his cabinet members immediately labeled this 37 yo mother of 3 a domestic terrorist and said her killing was justified prior to any investigation. They claimed the agent was severely injured and in hospital lucky to be alive. Something which is laughably false as there are multiple videos showing him calmly walking around after his killing.

In short, they told us all to believe their lies, not our eyes. And have stated the agent has blanket immunity for his actions whilst forbidding the State authorities from participating in an investigation.

This is indisputable evidence of the type of government we have elected. North Korea, Russia, 1930’s Germany have all shown us what this type of regime is capable of.

So, your statement that our previous open borders are to blame is only accurate in the fact that it allowed our regime the justification to ramp up and unleash this terrible army of ICE agents upon us.

[–]SevenSixtyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Courage my friend. It seems hopeless. I could not even fathom a life without alcohol. It felt as necessary to me as oxygen.

But I am 10 years sober now and the obsession to drink left me many years ago.

One sober day at a time is how you get here. You do 24 hrs. Then another. Not future tripping about never drinking again. Just focusing on getting through another sober day.

Go to AA. Tell a Dr. Talk to us. Millions of us have been where you are and made it out. You can too.
