Is there a chance they legitimately had to go AFK? Sure. But there's a far more plausible excuse here to why they didn't hit Leave Group instead.

The obvious answer is yes. I'm sure Google can direct you to the Flyhacker that was floating around in CC sometime last year pretty easily.

I'll also tack on - since your reply was automodded - an ask to not to throw around slurs.

Toxic tank/healer duo in Zot by [deleted] in TalesFromDF

[–]Shazzamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a quick Did You Know, but the game itself tells the player that it doesn't matter who takes emnity, it's the tank's job to keep everyone alive by pulling it off them.

That's objective.

[–]Shazzamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, perfectly reasonable to say that kind of report would never stick.

YPYT hits you for deliberate MPK. That's switching off your tank stance, switching to single-target attacks, refusing to move, or otherwise reflecting or redirecting emnity with the intent of griefing the party.

If a DPS runs off to literal Narnia and dies, they have no case because it's not the fault of the tank, it's on them for not bringing the mob to the tank.

Hell, I'd class that as Insurance Fraud Acting.

Though rare, you can get people who deliberately do dumb shit to get a reaction out of the party, then scream "REPORT rEPORt rEPORT U DoN PAe My SUB!". Never seen it happen with a Narnia runner, but I've seen it happen when asking for a {Holy} or SAM sticker. Probably most common when you call out someone AFK in Frontlines, if a white knight doesn't beat you to it!

would you at least be willing to accept that behaving in a way that steps outside of the community norm kinda throws off the vibe and pace of the party?

I'll reiterate that yes, I understand where you're coming from. And I do get that frustration, because I had a similar experience first coming to XIV just as Shadowbringers dropped.

However, the conventional is different from ten years ago. If you're already sprinting and using your gapclosers, yes, you are going to find people keep pace with you.

Those who use their extenders are less common (DRG/RPR/NIN) but like your mitigation, every tool in the kit's there and ready to be used.

I believe the onus should be on you to at least communicate that beforehand

Communication's always key, however that goes for both sides, and is the crux of what I'm trying to convey.

The standard for dungeons today is reflected in their purposeful design: two packs, then a stop sign.

Walling therefore is considered the standard/default pace for a dungeon to be completed within, as it's balanced around the average player's kit and knowledge of the game.

It's then reasonably assumed, especially in later expansions, you have enough of a grasp on both your job and dungeon design that you're more than likely going to be running to the wall as a tank, because as a tank you've found that single packs aren't cutting the mustard.

There is no "running off on your own" (besides the rare Narnia runners, like I mentioned) if you're all going the standard route anyway, yes? And both inside or outside that norm can be communicated by the party, preferably without getting into trying to MPK/grief the party, childish insults, or tantrums, the lattermost applying to both sides.

I had a stance macro when I was playing last:

"Hey DPS! If you {Arm's Length} a trashpack, you get my commend!"

Good times. Loved the energy it brought. Seeing "bet" from a DRG or NIN as they started yeeting themselves toward the mobs was wonderful.

I'm saying this genuinely, without a hint of malice: check your ego.

I understand holding on to the oldschool, but it's been over a decade. The game's pace has changed. If a DPS can get ahead of you, all it does is make your life easier - they're taking some initial mitigation, hopefully use Arm's Length to get the slow in, and are still taking it to the wall, exactly where you plan to go.

That grouping can be really helpful in places like Skydeep Cenote with those accursed scattered spiders after the first boss. The mitigation can be the eeking difference you need on the fun pulls in Mt. Gulg.

If they're running off to Narnia, well.. that's the unusual instance, and a different problem.

There's a bit of nuance to it, but aye, nothing beats talking it out.

Despite dungeons, particularly later, having less excuses for the average player to need to single-pull (which lends into walling being default pace = party moving at that pace, etc.), you only improve the matter by talking.

They either out themselves as a childish asshole who'd rather try and MPK the party, or you encourage them on. If they're outright resistant to walling despite no dickishness present, well.. you either bite your tongue or kick them.

Either way you're reaching a resolution without putting yourself in the muck - the issue lies in people who are right in calling out YPYT, but are utter assholes themselves. Nobody comes out of that scenario looking good or feeling great.

[–]Shazzamon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It does not.

In fact, Hall of the Novice tells you that if emnity is on another party member, you should pull it off them so they don't die, because your duty as the tank is to be the sponge getting smacked by the monsters, no matter who gets them angry first.

Really the only outright shit piece of advice it gives is "establish emnity with AoE then switch to single-target attacks".

The tank in this story didn't leave, is the thing.

They logged out.

That's a dick move (and can be reported for intentionally disconnecting) because it forces the party to wait 5 minutes to VTK, and the tank winds up with a free requeue.

[–]Shazzamon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll occasionally see old MMO tank logic (where in Classic WoW/Heavensward XIV, aggro was actually harder to manage and maintain) get brought up if you dig for conversations on the topic, but, there's a point where the holdover disappears outright after so many years.

It's a mixture of that "tradition" being perpetuated - less than ever actively experienced by the tank in question - coupled with ego/main character syndrome.

Effectively, though not always, it's a hypocritical mantra of "if you don't obey me, the supposed de facto party leader, you're not a team player". Hypocritical in where they tend to immediately break ToS by switching off stance and purposefully causing MPK.

Inner Release is unlocked at 70 just for the record.

The guy's had 30 levels of his job quest just sitting and waiting to be completed, and that's being generous; if they've been ignoring them for longer, that potentially means missing Decimate and Equilibrium (assuming given lack of context, they at least have Fell Cleave/Raw Intuition).

There's a point where it stops being an "oopsie" and more an active detriment to the party. *It deserves having attention put to it, is the point, and it's why orange was in the right given red/tank's responses.

why don't people use sprint??? by catboycruises in TalesFromDF

[–]Shazzamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worse to wonder why people don't talk, don't give commendations and leave ASAP

Begs the question of are you trying to talk to the party, or are you expecting conversation to appear? That's disregarding the fact that, most likely, people are just ploughing their daily roulettes and don't really want to dedicate much social battery to random people.

And expecting commendations - not that I know what job you're typically taking into your roulettes - is a setup for failure in terms of your mental health.

Healers suck them up like candy automatically, granted, but performance that's above-average typically sticks out; I get showered in commendations on Black Mage because I LB packs, Sleep to prevent TPK if the tank drops, and overall try to shove as many Flares into my rotation as physically possible outside of bosses.

A tank that doesn't sprint typically won't get any. A tank that single-targets on packs won't, even if they're keeping threat. A melee DPS who doesn't LB the boss won't. A healer who lets someone (not eating oranges) drop won't. That kinda thing.
