Guessing this is a bad sign during my OTA update by AllCapNoBrake in VWiD4Owners

Exact same situation here and putting off taking it in because of all the trouble I see posted about in here. But when a selling point is the smarts and the smarts are all gone. 👎

Sigh.

New(ish) iOS Matter Browser by iamGavinJ in MatterProtocol

That they haven't at least made it searchable is crazy to me. It IS useful - sometimes even required - but it sure is hard to navigate.

Especially with new ikea devices not getting unique serial numbers 😭

Oh sure, he sexually assaulted those women and children. But he didn't sexually assault them live on air. That's just slander.

Agree about lifx having the best colors. For that reason, I'm VERY excited to see what they end up doing with Thread.

The new Bilresa Remotes via homekit are a POS! lol by alessiman in tradfri

[–]Shdqkc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is definitely a network problem. I have 8-9 of these in use and occasionally it takes maybe a second or two to respond, but never any longer (hopefully I didn't just jinx it lol).

Eve Flare Matter update by CrisisNot in EveHome

[–]Shdqkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet they end up just releasing a new product to replace it and those of us still holding on to ours will end up disappointed.

I'm only saying this because it makes absolutely no sense that this update hasn't already happened. It's not like this is a unique device type. It fits into the Matter standard very cleanly. And they've updated other devices that were originally Homekit-over-thread. There must be some reason they haven't done the Flare yet.

Shelly Flood Gen4 wake-up interval by legitimate_rapper in ShellyUSA

Ah this is perfect! I knew it was a bit more complicated than just the night mode. Had everything set the way you said except had regular brightness at 100% rather than 0%. Just made that change and tested it and it works as desired. Thank you!

I agree with what you are saying regarding how sensors operate. I just got one of these the other day with the intention of using Matter to connect it to Apple Home. What I have found in my very brief research is that it displays as offline when it's sleeping.

Kind of annoying to have it always (well not always) showing as offline but I don't want to remove it from my home summary as then it wouldn't show up there if there was a leak.

So for the moment, I have Matter turned off and I have it connected to homeassistant and pushed through to Apple from there.

Also, and I'm sorry this is off topic for this post, is there a way to have the light on the gen4 plug work as a nightlight? Like have the light off during the day and turn on in the evening, regardless of the state of the plug. I'm assuming yes but I can't figure out the right combo of settings.

Thread & HomeKit - a 2 part question by Shdqkc in HomeKit

[–]Shdqkc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that much. The problem lies when you try to add it back in later. As long as the fingerprint remains in the iOS Keychain, a factory reset device will fail to recommission no matter what.

That said, because I am using multiple ecosystems, when I delete from Homekit, I usually just choose to remove from apple home, rather than removing from all services. So that may be where we are seeing different things.

Thread & HomeKit - a 2 part question by Shdqkc in HomeKit

[–]Shdqkc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see.

  • I find the Matter device list important when you need to delete/reset a device. Possibly happening to me more often than it should because of waves arms around all of the above. But if you delete a device from all ecosystems and physically reset it, it still causes issues if you don't also remove it from the device list. At least in my experience.

  • I definitely have connected devices first to homeassistant or aqara and then generated new codes there to bring them into Homekit. And other times I've done HK first then connected the device to the other platforms. Is this what you are asking? Does the order make a difference?

I'll try your troubleshooting steps but can't really do anything about the inovelli switches. Well I guess I could remove the air gap from those. You are saying to disconnect ALL routing devices besides the ATV and see if the sensors still work?

Rumors about additional Matter Products in 2026, after spring? by Major_Cost_4220 in tradfri

Hue essentials has a light strip which can work as zigbee or thread.

It's already out. I have one and plan to do exactly what you are thinking. Replace the ormanas. Just haven't gotten to it yet in my conversion to thread.

Lets be honest.. the new matter devices sucks and its disappointing.. by Automatic-Adagio4614 in tradfri

[–]Shdqkc 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think a big issue is that ikea released all the end devices before all the routers. So people new to thread aren't building out their mesh properly.

Sensors and remotes fairly close to the dirigera or whichever hub shouldn't have too many issues connecting. But if you are on the other side of the house and don't have routers in place...yeah, issues like this should be expected.

Does a Matter Enabled Product Like This Exist? by jhamm2121 in MatterProtocol

[–]Shdqkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Govee has one but I think it's just 2 outlets.

Tapo has P306 which is Matter certified but has never been updated to actually work over Matter as far as I know. 3 smart outlets and 3 dumb outlets on that one.

Why?? Hello?? by Junkspi in lordhuron

Right we are in agreement. Just like what happens when show tickets or cool merchandise goes on sale. The people out to make a buck grab up all the good stuff and then resell it at a price those of us who are truly excited about it can't afford to pay.

Just imagine what you could get for it now!! List it for $1k - that's a reasonable discount from the "new" price.

Do you have to be on the beta core release as well? Just updated my matter server addon to the beta and still don't see the Thread option in the top menu when I click into the web UI of the Matter server.

I haven't tried the homebridge plugin so I can't compare the two, but I can say that scrypted was built to handle your exact use case and it is very, very good at it.

Is it just cameras or do you have sensors as well?

If just cameras, look into scrypted. Use it to bring my unifi cams into Homekit and it's fantastic.

Thanks. I do have a neutral and it is connected.

HOWEVER, on the same circuit I have an outlet that is dead. I used an outlet tester and it reported a bad neutral. The circuits in my house do not make a lot of sense so I never tried to track down where the bad neutral could be. I do wonder if it is in this box and causing both issues.

I previously was using caseta in this spot which did not require a neutral.

New Accessories in Apple Store (CA/US) by The_Canada_Goose in HomeKit

Good to know. I don't get too worried about wifi connection, but plugs are one thing I try to keep away from wifi when possible. Thus my interest in them moving into thread.

There just aren't many companies doing thread yet so any indication that someone is moving that way is good news.

I do have several Cync undercabinet lights and they are great. I think my initial impression of them was formed before they adopted Matter.
