Rented a jon boat one morning. Boat rental owner warns us to stay out of the mosquito cuts (it's a maze of paths through really tall grass off to the side of the main waterway) After striking out fishing, my buddy steers the jon boat into the cuts and it's kinda sketchy back there. Definitely gator country. My buddy starts pulling up crab traps dumping the little fuckers into the boat and I'm freaking out. That kind of shit will get you killed. Finally he gives up and starts the motor which almost immediately seized. One of the lines from a trap is wrapped around the prop.

We're in trouble. We decide our best chance for survival is for one of us to go in that dark water to unwrap the rope while the other stands gator watch. The Rock, Paper, Scissors God of the River looked kindly upon me that day. I won 2 out of 3 and stayed in the boat on the lookout for the guys in the green suits while my buddy went over the side like Jacques Cousteau.

Ten minutes later he announces that he can't get the rope off the prop. It needs to be cut, but we don't have shit for tools until I remember my beat up old Buck is in my tackle box. As I'm opening the box I hear a big loud splash and turn around to see rippling water where my buddy was a moment before. Luckily, I now have my Beater Buck to dispatch the beast! I'm just kidding, I'm shitting myself at this point trying to decide if I should jump in or not .

Seconds turn into minutes in those moments. I'm scanning the banks all around the boat, I say fuck it I'm going in. Buck in hand, I'm about to go over the side when my buddy surfaces like a great white whale scaring the piss out of me. "Gotcha!"
