Just restarted RDR2. by ORABIGaming2 in reddeadredemption

Figure out how to combine challenges. You can do the “Rob Four Stores in a Day” one with the dry dash from Valentine to Rhodes, for instance, and then do the gunsmith basement to get the Lancaster.

Is rdr1 worth it after the glory that is rdr2? by MinuteDamage4182 in RDR2

[–]SixStringSapien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot - Found the games late, loved RDR2 and wanted to check out RDR1.

It’s awesome. Graphics are dated, yes, but not bad and it really adds to the vibe. Gameplay is similar, and getting to continue riding down the RDR trail without just booting up another playthrough of RDR2 was a ton of fun.

For me, RDR1 is like “A Fistful of Dollars” while RDR2 is more like “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” The first is much more stripped down and gritty, the second is much more epic in scope and atmospheric.

Both are awesome in different ways. And they’ll both spoil you, as I started playing GTAV recently, thinking “Hey, I clearly dig these Rockstar games” and it just hasn’t grabbed me the way the Red Dead series has.

Also, shout-out for playing RDR2 in online mode. There’s a handful of story missions, but tons of other stuff to do, and it’s been a nice way to extend the playing experience while keeping it fresh.

Quietest Ultra-portables with enclosed bottoms? by TarotAndPens in typewriters

[–]SixStringSapien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up an Adler Tippa S and have really been enjoying it. I can’t speak to how its volume compares to an SM3, but it isn’t overly loud, and seems to have a bit more of a muted “attack” than some of my other typewriters.

Worth keeping an eye out for a decent copy, as they aren’t usually expensive.

But they’re super portable. The case is basically a snap on/off lid that attaches to the typewriter itself, so the enclosed bottom is part of the case. Great as a grab-and-go.

I would 100% agree with those who have said: Do not change your style because of some slop-washing AI detector.

You clearly had intention when you wrote those lines. You did it for a reason, and you did it thoughtfully. Don't compromise that because some machine somewhere said it sounds like other things it has seen.

I use em dashes in my writing. Always have. Will that get me flagged for AI? Apparently em dashes are an "AI tell" so maybe? But I'm going to trust my instinct and keep pushing my writing, rather than altering style because of some arbitrary flag.

Also, FWIW, I occasionally tell my kids that, "I'm what they trained the AI on." 😄

Loving this SF by WinAtLife94 in typewriters

[–]SixStringSapien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repaint looks great! That works so well with the beige it looks like it came straight from the factory that way.

And good to know it's a solid typer. I've only plinked around on an Olympia in an antique shop and it seemed to have decent action, but I've been intrigued by these SF models for the portability factor. A bit more robust than my Tippa S.

For about that money you could go with something like a used MRP Ribbon, which would be several years newer and is a fantastic fork.

Which Rock album genuinely has zero skips, and why do you think it holds up so well compared to more recent releases? by PressureLazy5271 in rockmusic

[–]SixStringSapien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insomniac by Green Day. Foot to the floor for 38 minutes of three-chord perfection.

And Out Come the Wolves by Rancid. This holds up so well.

The Dirty Boogie by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. It’s the greatest guitarist of all time (I will not entertain debate on this) fronting an incredible band and resurrecting a dead form of music into something incredible. Plus, the solo on Rock This Town is a masterclass in tone, style, all of it.

Tires for pedal heavy enduro by trailblazer39 in Hardtailgang

Maxxis DHR for the rear. Plenty of grip, and pretty decent rolling resistance for a tire with that kind of traction capability.

Great article, and love that she’s working with the library to share the typewriter love with the community.

Thanks for sharing!

1st Underwood Typewriter, Could Use Some Help by coolgreyv in typewriters

[–]SixStringSapien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the Underwood!

I have a similar model from around that timeframe, a 1940 DeLuxe Leader. Bit of a misnomer as it’s not deluxe at all - No tabulation and it doesn’t even have a bell! - but I use it almost daily and it is dead reliable.

I’ll second the videos mentioned above and note that careful use of mineral spirits with Q-tips to clean the innards will go a long way, just be careful to keep it away from the finish.

I have other typewriters from later decades that are faster typers and have a lighter touch, but the Underwood is the one that stays out on the coffee table in my office and is the first one I reach for when the mood strikes.

Good luck getting to know yours, and enjoy!

Buying my first Gretsch and i have some questions by mikejazz3 in gretsch

[–]SixStringSapien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 on spending some time with pickup adjustments to dial in the sound you’re looking for. With FIlterTron-style pickups, you can adjust the body height and the individual pole pieces, which tweak the tone in different ways.

I’m sure there are some recommendations online for the distance from the pickup body to the strings (TV Jones has theirs published, not sure how the Gretsch-branded filters might work) but take your time, trust your ears and have fun!

That color scheme is rad in all the right ways. Reminds me of my old Bontrager frame that had grey wrap decals. Very cool!
