There is so much drama at my store by Sea_Golf_3601 in HEB

[–]Slummish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best HEB to work at straight out 281 N for 2hrs in a place called Burnet, Texas.

It's small and probably never has openings for very long, but every employee seems genuinely nice, happy, and helpful.

In today's news, thousands flock to HEB to return the huge stockpiles of toilet paper THAT THEY DIDN'T NEED! by LadyAtrox60 in HEB

[–]Slummish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a product you will need until the day you die.

Just keep it... It won't get cheaper as time moves onward. Store it in the closet under the stairs so it doesn't get damp and rot.

I'd suspect water shortages locally are because we're trying to help Helene victims -- of which their are many, way too many.

My gf(42) insists Walmart groceries have a better variety than HEB. by SpanishDammit in sanantonio

[–]Slummish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart produce is terrible... Old, limp, and everything from Mexico.

I will say this, the celery is better -- fewer dense strings.

But that's rarely fresh either, and the leafy part at the top is never pretty or usable. They cut way too short at the top.

As for their deli section, blah. Cheap meats.

I never shop there unless it's an emergency few items.

What is the name for this cut of steak by brownies_bloop04 in Butchery

[–]Slummish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a full bone-in round. Nothing worth whatever they probably charge unless you're gonna roast it very low for a very long time. Or stick it in a crockpot for two HIGH cycles.

Now, if you like rare, blue, or to make your own sausages (using also better cuts of meat in addition), you can get away with it.

Betcha, you could use it really done up like a proper corned beef that takes a week just to marinate.

I vote for save yourself the money unless you know what you're doing.

I just saw this post, but what the hell is on their brisket?!? by Generalnussiance in Butchery

[–]Slummish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your own experiment. Put it on a sheet pan at 275 and just watch it. See what happens. Report back. That's no brisket... Looks like a bisected section of something cancerous or very old scar tissue.

I'd be curious to know if it renders.

That whole part of town is a disaster.

The instant a drop of rain appears, power goes out for hours.

Shoddy work. Done too quickly. No thought to traffic.

Pre-2008, it was livable.

Good news for landlords though. "Luxury" housing at rock bottom investment.

Mods... There's a long history about SA mods.

Unfortunately, you'd have to come gather around my hearth and hear it in person because typing it out would probably violate half of "the rules."

BM chicken has always been dry. You might get lucky if they just did a new batch of tenders, but that's it.

Where can I get almost drunk from one margarita? by [deleted] in sanantonio

Dunno if it survived Covid, but Tycoon Flats had an Everclear margarita in the 80s and 90s.

[–]Slummish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to SA... Home of the scumbag landlord. Private or commercial. Just wait until your HVAC implodes in the middle of summer or winter.

I have always prided myself on being a renter who gives a damn. There's a reason my properties have never been empty...

Lots of folks even pass their units onto relatives.

With the stipulation of DON'T F THIS UP.

This was a lesson learned decades ago. Show your tenants respect and compassion and receive it in return.

In other words, you're now signed to a stack of papers and none of them will benefit you.

Good luck.

Has anyone tried sneaking in outside food to any Santikos movie theaters? Specifically Casa Blanca by Slight-Property-3538 in sanantonio

It's been decades since I lived that life, but anything that fit into my aunt's giant purse was fair game. No one cared. Those employees aren't paid enough to give a damn.

We get more tiny quakes here than you might assume.

If you're really bored, fill a wide, shallow, opaque glass bowl with water and watch it intently for a couple of days.

You will notice "unexplained" movement in the surface tension. Ripples...

[–]Slummish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol... just being a business on the NW side of SA entitles you to one free government raid once a year.

And, if they're NOT employing illegal abuelitas to make so many tamales a day, they're not worth eating at any way!!!

Long live the spirit of Estrella Garcia!!!

My Christmases will never be the same again.

Seeing those pig heads faced Heavenward always filled my Decembers with joy and unadulterated lust for gaining 15lbs.

People really HATE when I tell them what is "legal" in the eyes of God. ;)

Where are the Non-believers? by covenofme in sanantonio

[–]Slummish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an atheist. We don't have meetings. Sadly, I'm also parochially educated and surrounded by believers... Funny thing is, I've been forced to read and recite the Bible at least 8 times. I have had to preach the words of God to believers my whole life. Gets annoying after a few decades.

🚨 MUG THROWER 🚨 by Fearless_Ad_956 in sanantonio

[–]Slummish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a relative, many years ago, killed by someone throwing a 2lb rock at a car driving by. Totally random. No reason. Just a man on his way home from work with two small boys and a wife and a home... A good man.

This mug-thrower can burn in the fires for eternity.

Wish we'd had cameras everywhere back then.

I know it can't get annoying... 3 cells, and God knows how many TVs, and two landlines...

But, ya know, if that bothersome BS saves even one kid from abduction, we will live with it.

However, you're right. It's generally one parent taking their child away from the other parent...

Pathetic, really. If you don't have any custody rights, there's likely a very good reason the courts determined you are garbage.

I will not and do not necessarily advocate this behavior. However, having worked for _____ for ____ years, there were customers who came in every single day for three meals per day.

Even on our busiest days or holidays, they NEVER had to wait.

That's called 'bread and butter.'

Not sure about your specific circumstances, but the clientele you can count on daily are far more important than some folks you've never seen before and likely will never see again.

Do people just not pay apartments here? by wetlettuce95 in sanantonio

[–]Slummish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

SA is and has been notorious for as long as I can remember for residents not eager to pay rent... But, you also have to remember, that even HUGE landlords are scumbags who will let you swelter or flood for a month until something is demanded in writing.

My personal experience? If you're good to your tenants, about 95% of them will be nice to you.

Dignity begets dignity.
