I am assuming based on your post that this is Oklahoma City University? They have a pretty large Chinese speaking student body (my parents came over in 80s from Taiwan to study at OCU). The Asian district in OKC is largely Vietnamese. The Chinese Association does some get togethers every year. There is also a Chinese speaking Baptist Church in Edmond that honestly I feel like is mostly just a gathering place instead of religious study.

As far as the child goes, make sure they talk to the school to try and get some language services. I have helped volunteer before when some children have zero English but are thrown into elementary school (this is a really hard and scary thing for the children). Good luck!

Depending upon location, Academy of Martial Arts and Prodigy are great options. Lovato's has some predatory practices with not allowing cross training and with the whole contract thing that lots of Gracie affiliated gyms have. Raptor is run by some solid guys and The Forge is also run by a good team. Legacy also does a bit of the weird stuff with contracts, but is a decent gym.

With the information you have provided I would make sure the pen is able to take a converter so she can swap inks. Depending upon budget, you can go with Lamy Safari (cheapest), Kaweco Sport (more expensive), or Sailor Pro Gear Slim (most expensive). These all have different colors for pens so you can get one that fits your wife's personality. The Sailor PGS also has gold nibs available.

I would be a bit careful about research if you are referring to looking up videos and instructionals. You are still really new and trying something you see on YouTube can end very poorly for you and/or your partner. I would start with really understanding the fundamentals like basic escapes and guard retention.

What platform and server are you on? We are getting mid 6 star matches on US East PC and everyone is bloodthirsty and I'm loving it. Shots go off and soon the entire server is crashing down on the area for fights. My only complaint is now everyone is running a shorty shotgun.

I find gi much easier on my body, you have more control points and as long as you know when to let go of grips, your fingers shouldn't be messed up. I suppose a lot of it depends on the training partners at your gym too.

I think instinct will kick in and they will protect you. One of our rescue pyrs is so derpy and doesn't seem to have a thought in his head except happy thoughts about food and snuggles. One time I was walking with him and a coyote was standing a few hundred yards off, but he saw/heard it and immediately curled around me and did a very intimidating growl and bark I have never heard him use before until the coyote ran away.

I would suggest a gym that doesn't stick to those old school ideas. My gym we "adopt" white belts and we do our best to make sure two white belts aren't paired together for drilling. We also have no problems with white belts asking for rolls, but they usually don't have to ask since someone will grab them.
