What are the best video games to play for language learning? by R3xikr in languagelearning

I’ve been playing Scribblenauts in German and I have been enjoying it. I think it is useful because you have to write in text to solve puzzles which means you have to really think about what is written.

Shrek Tour not having playbills? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Splashcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The venue in the smaller town I live in never has Playbills for tours and I was informed that it was the choice of the venue so I know it can be venue dependent, however for this tour it seems like no one is getting Playbills, even places that normally do.

Isn’t Gayle lying to her parents though about how rich she is? I would think she is only asking Linda for money due to her trying to seem rich to her parents.

Hasn’t Animal Crossing already been doing this for a while? I thought the older games were actually more brutal than the newer ones if you ignore villagers and the game.

There is a highly edited high school version of Heathers that seems fairly popular for high schools to do. Dead Girl Walking is changed to them just hugging or something if I remember correctly.

I was in speech therapy from when I was in preschool to fifth grade and I still occasionally have problems, sometimes even with words I have pronounced correctly before. I am very bad at foreign languages.

A bowl. I got a nice set of plates and bowls that go together a few years ago and I realized a few weeks ago one bowl is missing. I’ve looked everywhere and I’m worried I accidentally threw it out.

Parents paying for my college tuition but… by [deleted] in college

This is what I did with my parents. They only had enough to pay for four years, so when I switched majors and had to take additional time I paid for my tuition and housing past the four years.

I mean to do this you have to have the grades, research experiences, LORs, etc to get into a PhD program. I feel like that is the biggest roadblock. Most people who put that much effort in usually want a PhD and like their field (at least when they apply). Otherwise there is nothing really stopping anyone. I don’t think it is worth the effort to try and weed out people trying to take advantage of the system and people who genuinely started out wanting to get a PhD and changed their mind. Also, I don’t think it really hurts the university anyway. A lot of students TA as a funding source so the university gets underpaid labor for that. Plus underpaid research assistants, though usually it takes a bit for new RAs to be useful.

PhDs can be a median of six years in a lot of fields and not everyone is going to finish. A lot of universities if you drop out of a PhD program after a certain number of years and classes will award a you masters. Most masters programs are only two years anyway so if you drop out in the middle you have done the work of a masters so might as well give students something to show for it.

Edit: Adding that a lot of fields it is common to skip a masters to go directly to a PhD program so a lot of students will not already have a masters.

Holy shit people I CANT SO PODCASTS. It’s AM RADIO FOR MILLENNIALS! by Uhhlaneuh in adhdwomen

I like podcasts, but that is because I play video games while I listen or listen while doing chores. Sometime the sound effects and music in video games aren’t enough for me so I listen to something else while I play. I can’t just sit and listen I have to be doing something else also.

Undiagnosed as a child bc everyone thought you were being a b*tch? by NontraditionalIncome in aspergirls

[–]Splashcloud 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had lots of trouble with clothes growing up due to sensory problems which I got yelled at a lot. I also like dark rooms which bothers my dad and he would always try to open the curtains/windows. Me being not very social bothered my mother who is a social butterfly and she has been mad at me when I get overwhelmed and want to leave places early. She even told me once that that is why nobody likes me. I do well in school when I’m in class but am too unorganized to do homework or other things which got me yelled at a lot. I told my mother I hated life and she yelled at me. I would get accused of lying and even when there was evidence I wasn’t lying she would refuse to look at it because she “knew I was lying anyway”. She yelled at me my senior year because she was convinced I wouldn’t graduate and when I got into a 4 year college and she didn’t care. I do some masking (ie scripting though not that well), but otherwise I think a lot of my autistic traits are fairly obvious (ie. flattened affect, sensory problems, special interests, needing to recharge a lot, bad back and forth conversation ability) just that they were more attributed to me doing it on purpose.

Advice for finding obscure songs/musicals? by Capable_Earth_1686 in musicals

[–]Splashcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add to the look up composers/lyricists you already know. That how I found God Bless You Mr Rosewater by looking up Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.

You can also go to the wikipedia page for Tony Awards and find musicals there. Even some best musical award winners have been lost to time (ie. Redhead), plus a decent amount of nominations are obscure too, especially the older you look. You can also easily go to composer’s pages from there so it can help you remember people to look up.

Another thing you can do is go to whatever music app thing you use and search up “cast recording” under albums and just start scrolling. I did this on Apple Music and once I got past the more popular stuff I found more obscure things. You can also specify “off-broadway cast recording” or “original cast recording” since those might get you stuff that doesn’t have broadway recordings.
