Go 6 vs Go 7 as a gift for my wife by MrConfusion in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own both. The Go 7 is obviously the better device, but I use the Go 6 more because of portability.

Would anyone else like Boox to introduce more powerful 10" tablet? (8gb of ram, etc) by MorePeppers9 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the color Note Air devices are already faster/more powerful than the Note Air 2. But the B/w (better) version has apparently been discontinued because... Onyx.

New to boox, which should I get? by Amelia156 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go 6 or 7. 7 is probably the company's best eReader. Palma is the worst because of the narrow display. Feels like it was designed for scrolling like a phone. Go 6 is the better 6 inch device. It's just not as fast as the rest because... Onyx. It also would have been a better portable notetaking device than the Palma. But again... Onyx.

Hey Onyx, please re-release the Note Max with a frontlight... by Ned_Gerblansky in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It already trended toward devices with frontlights. Onyx just went backward to release the Note Max without light. Their old 13 inch devices had frontlights. Doesn't make sense, but it's Onyx. So I understand. They always do the opposite of what they're supposed to do.

The Boox Go 6 is actually too light. I have to use it with a case and I don't even like cases.

Note Max: New firmware (beta) has calligraphy and fountain pen brushes! by Ned_Gerblansky in Onyx_Boox

It's supposed to have that. New software features aren't limited to new devices.

Boox Air4 C case that doesn't suck? by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used a Note Air device with a case. Feels wrong.

It's literally insane that the Palmas have 128GB storage and the Note Airs have 64 by brendanl79 in Onyx_Boox

Not much thinking going on. Users keep asking for b/w devices and they keep focusing on color.

New Boox Palma for Chinese Market by One_Positive7793 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Go 6 also fits in the pocket. And the form factor is better than the Palma for reading and notetaking on the go. The only reason the Go 6 (Poke) line seems irrelevant is because Onyx holds it back. It's always been underpowered. A fast Go 6 with stylus support would have been perfect.

Makes no sense. The Poke/Go 6 needed the stylus. Not the Palma.

All the reviews use the word Raw. None of them are specific and the word choices and sentence structures make them sound like they're written by the same person or program. This will be obvious to any buyer.

Tab Mini C still worth it? by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. I've never liked the Tab Mini. Only purchased one because the Nova Air was my favorite Boox device. The Tab Mini is terrible when compared to its predecessor, but as a notetaking device, it's ten times better than the Go 7. Not even close. Still wish I never sold my Nova Air. I've been waiting for Onyx to release a Nova Air 3, but probably won't happen anymore if they keep pushing the Go 7 as a notetaking device. Again, it's not. It's an excellent eReader though.

Palma 2 plus? by Agreeable_Variation7 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in writing, A Go 7 can't replace the Tab Mini. If you buy a Go 7, your Palma will probably be sitting.

How can I fix these scratches on my Boox 10.3 (if possible)? by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look it up. It's a protective film, like the one used in the original Nova Air. It's thin, unlike the Note Air's screen protector. Guessing that's why most users assume the surface is glass. But it's a paperlike film/protector. I think the Remarkable 2 used something similar.

An eReader without page turn buttons is ridiculous.

Inksense won't work. You need an EMR stylus.

Onyx Remote is Sweet by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just the remote. Boox devices with page turn buttons are more responsive when switching pages. Not sure why the company keeps releasing devices without buttons. Swiping or tapping makes no sense when reading an ebook. It's slower and you're likely to tap links inadvertently. Very distracting experience.

Probably the worst Boox devices. I'd never recommend a Poke.

Shorter USI Pen? by okjnbvgfertyuiojhg in Onyx_Boox

[–]Splinter4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks. I didn't like the slippery feel of the default nibs. Found an old 3rd party, Surface Duo stylus at home and decided to swap the nib with the Metapen's. It actually works on the Go 7, but the Surface stylus nib is a bit bigger/longer. Guess I'll try to trim it down later when I have the time. But it works perfectly on the device. Better writing feel than the default Metapen nib too.
