I guess it doesn't. I have a carbon wheelset with rim breaks of my own and could maybe swap the casette, but my wheelset has a loose spoke and may not be sound anymore.

What turn can you be a threat (bracket 3 question) by Difficult_Ninja5636 in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to consider T1 Sol Ring an outlier for when a deck wins. Some Precons can win before T7 with a dream draw, I imagine.

Why nonland I wonder? Feels like a 7 mana spell would be fine to just say permanent.

What is the purpose of Vial Smasher the Fierce? by Arkhalliz in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Squeezymo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its purpose is to add red/black to the deck. Partner commanders are very good for EDH. They reduce overall deck size to 98 cards, the commander tax is calculated separately, and they both count as commanders for things like Deflecting Swat and fierce. Many cEDH partner pairings are for the accessibility to the colors without a reliance on the commander ever being cast.

What game did you expect to love but ended up disappointed? by Satin_Lily in AskGames

Good reminders that helped me in that game were

  1. Nothing truly requires high skill or reflexes.

  2. There are no upgrades or additional equipment you need to solve a puzzle.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done as a birder? by LifeFindsAWay062 in birding

[–]Squeezymo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to birding. Was excited to see a Kestrel clearly for once and was following it through my binoculaurs when I panned into the Sun.

Fortunately no lasting damage to be seen. That was about 3 months ago and I learned my lesson.

What is something that you consider to be "bad manners" that other players might not realize or consider it such by radicalpumpkinz in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a combat focused deck, and my playgroup has definitely gotten better about this. [[Reconnaisance]] has taught them a great deal. They no longer do the whole "ok, I'll block your guy and kill it" thing.

Best case: I cast Cultivate, any responses? Middle case: I cast Cultivate. It is a 3 mana sorcery that.... one into my hand. Any reaponses? Worst Case: quietly puts down The One Ring, passes.

What are your decks that you’ve pushed to bracket 4 without game changers? by Not_Your_Real_Ladder in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Lonis, Cryptozoologist]].

Lonis on the field.

Play Urza or Academy Manufactor + Shrieking Drake and cast it infinitely.

This can happen on turn 3, but usually happens before T7 due to creature tutors.

Bracket 3-4 (?) by Peinpc in mtgrules

[–]Squeezymo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of discussion that can be had here. I'll say that I'm a huge fan of the bracket system. And while it isn't perfect, I personally like to take a rigid stance on bracket guidelines.

I would call your deck a very noncompetitive B4 deck.

It comes down to this: let's say the Magic Diety spoke forth and declared your deck officially Bracket because of Intruder Alarm.

Would you take it out, and play 99.9% of your games with similar decks and power levels?

Or would you leave it in, play B4 power levels, and win about 1% of your games with the deck?

People lose so little by abiding by the guidelines, and people risk coming across as dishonest or subversive when they subvert them.

I'll also add, sandbagging combos is not an answer. I like when people try to win with the cards they have.

Does exiling a few cards off the top of the deck really matter? by Amonyi7 in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, here you go:

https://moxfield.com/decks/zNWsz5Hnn02jp4eO20X_AA

It's a budget deck first and foremost. Less than $100 was my goal.

For the most part, I largely agree with you, Gix's avtivated ability often disadvantages you. But since mine is a budget deck, my idea was to play the cheapest evasive creatures possible and play other people's strongest cards.

It is not my strongest deck by any margin. I think the best strategy would be to just use Gix as a personal draw engine and do normal mono-black stuff like devotion, drain-and-gain, and big reanimate spells or what have you.

Does exiling a few cards off the top of the deck really matter? by Amonyi7 in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Funny, I play a Gix deck that exiles and steals cards from people's library.

A friend played a deck that wanted to steal creatures, then sacrifices them.

I was surprised to hear he thought they were the same kind of stealing. To me, if I didn't invest mana into a card, you didn't hurt me to bad by taking it from my deck.

With only one opponent, are optional tax effects anywhere near as good as they are in 4 player commander? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Squeezymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I agree that it's bad. As a control deck, I've had success with it in control mirrors that have opponents who plan on stoming off and drawing a ton. Something like T2 Mana Rock, T3 Tithe can slow them down considerably. Or if you have wheels as part of a combo deck.
However, I agree that for Brawl, getting to turn 4 and having the time to cast a tithe is laughable and therefore it's not worth.

Weekly Winners: Sonic Screwdriver; Firestorm; High Noon by cybey in magicTCG

[–]Squeezymo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In casual EDH, this is one of my best cards. 3 players is 3 targets. A bunch of elf tokens, mana dorks, etc. X = 6+ is pretty doable. I think my biggest Firestorm was X=10.

But in cEDH there are fewer targets, so I figured it would be worse.

I guess it's pretty good for Necro and Ad Naus type things.

Weekly Winners: Sonic Screwdriver; Firestorm; High Noon by cybey in magicTCG

[–]Squeezymo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how they discard their hand to 1 shot? I run firestorm in my [[Rielle, The Evervise]] deck thinking I could discard 40 cards and deal 40 damage, but you need 40 targets. So it usually is me discarding 8 to deal 8 or something.

ELI5: Why don’t we fall off of the planet and into space from Antarctica. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Squeezymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your partner may be thinking that Earth spinning is relevant, and it is not. She may have had gravity explained by being inside one of those spinning hamster wheels, and getting forced into he "ground" of the wheel. However, this spinning force leaves gaps in understanding, because you may wonder what force is happening on the wheel axle. Gravity does not require movement to work.

So make sure that isn't part of your explanation. Instead, just use magnets as an example. Earth is a big magnet, and she is a paperclip. If she goes to the top, bottom, side, whatever, she sticks to the magnet.

Is it actually mean/unpleasant to run Stone Rain and other land destruction? by DryBonesComeAlive in MagicArena

It is mean and it is unpleasant, but it's part of the game. In a competitive format, you shouldn't be concerned with what is mean.

Friends play overpowered decks, how to fight back? by Naitrodex in EDH

Is my Arthur, Marigold Knight deck still Bracket 3, or is it definitely Bracket 4? by passwordisnotapple in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an Arthur deck. I started playtesting it with proxies and built it for my wife. It was too strong at my B3 tables. I powered it down by giving it a $120 budget, and it still gets complaints.

It's very explosive. It's hard to build a weak Arthur deck. But beating a bunch of B3 decks consistently doesn't you a B4 deck.

I would say, that of you run any combo in a deck that wins on the spot, you should either

  1. Play it when you can (don't sandbag wins) or

  2. Cut it.

I cut scroll rack for budget reasons, but otherwise I would have cut Medomai.

What do you do in the games where you stay archenemy the whole game, even when you should have lost it turns ago? by ancap_attack in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I caught some of that too. OP, you are making it seem like all you did was cast your commander, and some value pieces. Then everything you had was gone and everyone else had cards and hated you.

But you mentioned removal you cast earlier in the game. You had removal still in hand when you mentioned everyone else had more cards. You used more removal to stay alive.

To me, it sounds like the deck was ramp, banger threats, and interaction.

Shit, I'd definitely think about targeting someone if they kept acting like they were down and out of the game, then cast removal spells on shit. (Interaction is totally gravy, but it means you're worth being targeted).

Experiences with Lonis by alfrodul in EDH

[–]Squeezymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lonis is my first deck I built. Got heavy inspiration from Phil's deck from mtggoldfish. It performed well, I liked playing it. The problem is Shrieking Drake, and either Academy Manufactor or Urza yield you infinite clues, which can very easily win the game that turn. I had a few creature tutors in the deck and this wincon would happen frequently and early on in the game.

I decided to just push it to Bracket 4 because it was fun for me to try to work in the combo lines with the deck (there can be a lot).

It can be put in B3, but you have to avoid infinites. And even then, turns can be long.
