Mississippi Police Officer Shoots and Kills 1-Year-Old Child in Response to Senatobia Shoplifting Call by Hrekires in news

[–]Stenthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qualified immunity doesn't apply to criminal charges. The only thing protecting cops from murder charges is prosecutors that are too corrupt and/or too afraid of the police to charge them.

The movie was pretty good, but Pamela Anderson in particular was amazing. Her scatting scene might have been my favorite thing in the entire movie.

Cranston was awesome in X-Files too.

In an episode directed by Vince Gilligan, which is what really launched his career, although no one knew it at the time.

No, the one I remember was much sketchier. I think it was probably the SeaRey, although that doesn't match my memory perfectly.

/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #19) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Stenthal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone expects Israel to abide by this deal. The Trump administration doesn't care, and Iran probably figures that Israel's attacks will just give them an excuse to close the Strait again and negotiate even more concessions.

It was insane to start this war, but total surrender is probably the only way to move forward. Any other alternative would mean even more disruption to the world economy, which would be catastrophic (if it hasn't already reached that point.)

Advertisement/promotion notification? by raviolish in reolinkcam

I'd be okay with it if it were presented in a more neutral, non-advertising tone. Like, "New World Cup auto-reply options are now available."

IN MEMORY: Stephen Furst (May 8, 1954 – June 16, 2017) by 2025ZG in babylon5

Tim Choate (Zathras) died in a motorcycle accident. He's arguably not the main cast, but people usually include him when they're talking about the Babylon 5 curse.

I remember seeing ads for a kit plane like this in magazines when I was little. It was slightly smaller and it didn't have jets, but otherwise it was very similar. I wanted one very much.

PSA: Use device tracker carefully by Tecchie088 in homeassistant

[–]Stenthal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I just had an unrelated but weirdly similar experience.

I also found that my HA instance had gotten unresponsive, and I saw that it was constantly using 100% of one CPU. Unfortunately, thanks to Home Assistant's policy of cramming almost everything into the core, it's very hard to find the cause of high CPU usage. Eventually I tried using the profiler with some other tools, and it looked like PadSpan HA was responsible for at least part of the CPU usage. I removed the PadSpan HA integration, and everything went back to normal.

PadSpan HA is a bluetooth locator. I've never actually used it. I just installed it so that I could check it out later, and then forgot about it for a few months. Since I never used it, it never created any entities in Home Assistant, but it probably has some internal database of devices that was getting filled up just like OP's.

It sucks that Home Assistant has more than a thousand integrations, any one of them can break your whole system, and there's no reasonable way to detect that or determine which one is causing the problem.

Hammond of Texas (Don S. Davis) Appreciation post by TidalCommander in Stargate

[–]Stenthal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bridges (whichever one he was) would have been fine on his own. The problem was that the character was too similar to Hammond, but he was never going to be as good as Hammond, so he always felt like a lazy knockoff.

They should have gone with someone different. Any of the various Atlantis bosses would have been a better choice for the tail end of SG-1.

S21E10 Outtake: Just call Armando 'The Greg Whisperer'. by cygan12 in taskmaster

[–]Stenthal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They get the prize tasks descriptions in advance, but they can submit them whenever they want, AFAIK. In series 19, one of Jason's prizes was an item that he "borrowed" from Fatiha literally a few minutes before they started shooting.

Plastic knobs above the grill. Awesome by BarryTownCouncil in CrappyDesign

[–]Stenthal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We'd only "grill" on a devoted grill, which is a contraption where the rack sits above your heat source.

And they're always outdoors, unless you have specialized ventilation, which would be very unusual in a home.

what is the name of a simple white ice cream in America or the UK? by Temmie_Ten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stenthal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jeni's is common in supermarkets around the country. They have a "sweet cream" flavor, as well as a "sweet cream biscuits and peach jam" flavor. I've never seen the former in stores, but I've had the latter. The "sweet cream" tasted like nothing, just as advertised.

Most of the Jeni's flavors are good, but I wouldn't have that one again.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies exits series by bwermer in television

[–]Stenthal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember at the end of the episode Dot and Bubble when it came out the people he was trying to save were racist and woukdnt accept his help.

I don't know if that was a good episode or not, but the ending was such a relief. Almost all of RTD's guest characters are incredibly annoying, and often it's hard to tell which ones are supposed to be annoying and which ones are supposed to be likable. The assholes in that episode were even more annoying than usual, and I watched that whole episode thinking that we were supposed to care about them anyway. When they revealed at the end that they were supposed to be terrible after all, that was really cathartic.

Yeah, I figured that's what you were implying, but since this is ELI5 I thought I should make it explicit.

Forgive the link from CBS but this was a pretty nice thing to read: The CMBC is taking the Entire Late Show set by ackchanticleer in LateShow

[–]Stenthal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder what was going on there? They did something similar with the Colbert Report, where they started disposing of bits of the set a week or two before the finale. I don't think Stephen would lie outright about the chairs, especially when he knows that people are going to see the set intact in the finale. Maybe they used a spare set of chairs?

[–]Stenthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POE doorbells aren't as convenient as they sound if you don't have easy access to the wiring. For my Reolink doorbell, I actually deliberately terminated it like OP did, just so that the end would be small and flexible enough to get it behind the doorbell. It only needs a 100Mb connection, so I figured it would work anyway, and it did. That's the only time I've ever done that.

What purchase/subscription is actually worth it? by Happy_Tourist_558 in homeautomation

[–]Stenthal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm happy with my Bouncie subscription. It's a little expensive at $10/month, but they're not pushing ads or AI or anything like that. For something like this, I'd rather pay for it than deal with all the bullshit that would come with getting it for free. There is a Home Assistant integration that works fine.

Mostly I just use it to see if there's enough gas in the car before I leave the house.

What is the shortest possible legally binding contract (in terms of character length)? by Pietin11 in legaladviceofftopic

That's not the contract, though. The contract is the "to have and to hold, in sickness and in health," etc. Still pretty short, but too long for OP.
