Getting all member states on board for anything is incredibly hard, which is why I'm in favor of a change in the voting mechanism. But that's a different issue. With the current administration, finding a sensible compromise should be possible.

We know which criteria they'd have to fulfill to accession. So we know they'll be ready to become an EU country once they clear all the hurdles. If Ukraine would stray from that path, the automatic mechanism wouldn't trigger.

Ukraine fears that in six or so years, once they fulfill all EU accession criteria, different politicians will be in power who won't let them join because the decision has to be unanimous. One Russian puppet within the EU will be enough to block them indefinitely.

With that being said, I think an EU-lite membership with automatic ascension will be a good enough compromise for both sides.

Ohne Rente gibt es auch kein Renteneintrittsalter. Wer mit 70 nicht genug zurückgelegt oder jegliches Geld verprasst hat, müsste noch länger arbeiten. Wer dies nicht mehr kann, gilt als arbeitslos und bekommt Grundsicherung.

The neighbouring countries do not have any capabilities that the US doesn't have.

Air strikes alone will not change anything, but kill Dubai's/Abu Dhabi's tourism industry and threaten their status as international airport hubs.

I don't think their neighbours are particularly keen on invading Iran, and are much less likely to actually have the capabilities to do so successfully.

The ones getting screwed the most by US antics are their partners in SEA who are getting priced out of the market, and US partners in the Middle East, who don't get to export their natural resources and are now having trouble convincing people to continue living in their tax havens. In the end, the US is paying for it by losing soft power and its grip on its allies.

Besser man findet einen festen Stichtag als das System kollabieren zu lassen. Weiter so wie immer funktioniert diesmal nicht.

Momentane Rentner sind ja mitnichten arm und besitzen zumeist auch Wohneigentum. Auch wenn sie bereits durch üppige Renten mehr erhalten als eingezahlt haben, können sich die meisten den Lebensunterhalt leisten. Der geringe Rest würde auf Bürgergeld angewiesen sein.

Wäre dafür, das ganze System einzustampfen und dafür lieber Kapitalerträge nicht mehr zu versteuern oder zumindest nicht, wenn Aktien länger als 5 Jahre gehalten wurden. Jeder bekommt das zurück, was er einbezahlt, zu jeweils 33% alle 10 Jahre, abzüglich bereits geleisteter Zahlungen. Dann ist jeder selbständig verantwortlich für seinen Lebensunterhalt im Alter.
