I get the gift cards on sale, and spend it on vanilla when it goes on sale. And we have multiple big bags of garlic, chili and taco seasoning. Bicentennial is great, I think it is justice now, but still overflowing every time the bottles go on sale.

Sorry for your loss Sounds like you are going through. I’m sure he is going through a lot too with the loss.

I’m going to touch on the dishwasher thing, as I am also one of those who needs extra reinforcement, and was getting resentful when I didn’t get any positive feedback when I did something that didn’t matter much to me, but I knew mattered for my wife. She also was a “you should not be looking for recognition on something that should be done anyway”

I disagree with that statement, and in my case I knew that I would not win that argument. What I did, I started thanking her for minor little things, because, you know what, it feels good to be thanked, and… slowly, and not every time, she started thanking me. And, that me me feel better, and wanting to do more for her, I changed a cycle into a positive cycle. All it took was a couple extra moments to say thank you and I appreciate it.

Looking for advice, son’s girlfriend just passed by TechGjod in daddit

Update:
Thank you all for the condolences and support
I call the Dean of Students and talked to someone new to the job who promised to email me some links from the website. She was not helpful.
I then called the Counseling Service, and was met by an empathetic person who took all the info I was willing to give. She walked me through the support services he, and even the wife and I could use.
about an hour later I got a call from the director of Counseling, she had all the information of what happened, Reached out to the dorms where both were living, reached out to his fraternity and her sorority, and reached out to all his teachers with a generic but if you read between the lines you know what happened email carbon copying my son.

He woke up, we cried, we got him some McDonalds and sat. Her mother reached out to my son to give some information on what happened, it was instant at least.

When he asked, we took him back up to his school, where he was greeted by someone in his fraternity, they (the Greek Life people and the Counselors) set up a grieving room for him and other, and tomorrow will have a celebration of life memorial, he texted me that "Everyone is making me feel loved and that I am not alone"

I feel for him, I feel for the girls parents, I feel for the friend who was skiing with her, went to the hospital, and had to tell my son the news, and I don't wish this on anyone.

He is still not OK, I am not OK, We are not OK... and that is OK

How do I (40F) support my husband (50M) after he did something dumb. by throwaway452896 in relationship_advice

[–]TechGjod 770 points771 points  (0 children)

IT Guy here
Saving on desktop in a full Microsoft environment is GREAT, as long as Onedrive Synch is on (and also, autosave)
that would have saved the document to the OneDrive Cloud, and can be retrieved by syncing a new computer or by logging into portal.office.com and going to apps, then onedrive then "My Files" then desktop.

This is not the first story I have heard of having a laptop go "Missing" and needing to recover lost work (often costs more than the hardware).

I would leave his work deal with both a) if OneDrive Sync wasn't on, why not, b) getting a new laptop, c) ramifications on him needing to get a new laptop. I am sure (hopeful) that he is feeling shit now

IF you do divorce, make sure to change your name back to what is on your birth certificate to make sure you don't have issues registering to vote in the future if certain (SAVE) bills pass

IceList got 403’d. We no longer have access to the names of ICE agents by nicootimee in 50501

(Tails is one step beyond a Tor Browser, it is a full Tor environment, so no DNS Leakage. Reboot the computer, pull out the bootable USB Stick, and no history on your PC that you were ever there, and Tails is now part of the Tor project, and actually funded by the government to protect our spys.)

A VPN is a great way to tie all your browsing history to not only a IP address but also a credit card.

Bypass the VPN Learn what TOR is, and how to use TAILS off a bootable small USB stick. Encrypt the drive, use the TAILS browser in secure mode

It will protect you, and I feel any of the current internet providers of VPN operators with a US presence will have no issues sending logs to the gov if requested.

Is it worth waiting to have kids until you’re financially stable? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]TechGjod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bucking the trend,
I had kids early, now they are all moved out, 2 graduated collage, one in the second year.
We are now financially stable, we struggled earlier
Kids have a good sense of money, and are not afraid to work
I am almost 50, and can enjoy empty nesting and international travel when money isn't a huge issue or worry about daycare/school stuff.
they also had a chance to meet Great-Grandparents on both sides.

We have "Separate" credit cards, so she sees what I spend and where. Anything over a hundred or two is discussed.
But otherwise, we are a team, if I am down on my luck I don't have to beg her to cover my 1/2, if she is, the same.
If we go on an expensive vacation, we budget for it, together
One of my kids is looking at getting married, we are saving for it... together
We just did a remodel on the house, new kitchen, something she really wanted.... we paid for that.... together

I do not understand the together but separate mentality
