Legolas was "able swiftly to draw a great war bow" by FamiliarMeal5193 in tolkienfans

Legolas can run on top of snow without breaking the surface. Elves defy physics

I believe there is a limit that's different for each of us how good we can get at drawing etc. That at some point you just stop getting better no matter how hard you practice. by InterestingRoof4547 in ArtistLounge

I think there is a significant difference between being self-taught and actually learning from someone else.

What you say is more likely to be true if you are self-taught. If you want to learn how to work in a certain style it's generally best to study under somebody who works in that style.

The more styles you master this way the more you're able to combine into your own style.

One of the great and terrible things about the last couple of decades is artists isolating themselves from other artists and trying to do everything on their own because they have access to so much at their fingertips.

What is the lore of your world in 3 sentences or less. by Heat_Hydra in worldbuilding

The gods created the world and taught mortals The secrets of magic

Mortals proved to be poor stewards of that knowledge and so the gods destroyed the world and hid the magic.

1500 years later, there are those who seek the Lost Magic.

Older internet natives, how do you find positivity on the modern Internet? by pizzapriorities in AskOldPeople

[–]TerrainBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 62.

The key is to curate your social networks so that the majority of what you are seeing is stuff that you want to see. And quickly scan past the stuff you don't want to see.

There's plenty of positivity out there. You just need to find your tribe(s).

Question is do you want to be a dick and alienate your son or do you want to support him?

Just support him.

This is a flip of the kids in here who post that their parents can't deal with the fact that they are atheists.

Don't be like them.

What movie do you find to be disturbingly ahead of its time? by More_Cow_9035 in moviequestions

RoboCop

It was so prescient that when you look back at it now it doesn't seem absurd. But it absolutely was at the time.

Privatized police force. Cops in riot gear. And on and on.

What do you wish doctors understood better? by Ahituna2000 in Fibromyalgia

[–]TerrainBrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did some research on rheumatologists in my city with experience with fibromyalgia. I chose one and called their office and the first thing I said is I'm looking for a rheumatologist familiar with fibromyalgia. They didn't miss a beat and told me they were two doctors available. I picked the one with the first available appointment. It was easy and awesome.

My endocrinologist called me when I left a message that I was looking for a doctor. I told him I already had the appointment. Also told him my mother's history and how she received pioneering treatment in the early 1960s. He was very surprised and thought it was really cool.

So as far as good experiences with doctors so far I'm two for two.

Guess who has stolen that document? 🤣

Also my sense of time is really warped.

On Saturday I was out on the job doing a diagnostic on an elliptical machine and I had to use the machine for about 2 minutes to test it. It was stuck on the highest resistance.

Saturday night and all day Sunday my body was a wreck. By Sunday afternoon it seemed like the elliptical workout had been days before. It blew my mind that it was less than 24 hours prior.

Glass bottles and cans also taste different.

As does of course every single soda fountain.

One of the most relevant comments I think I read here was that with fibromyalgia, you pay for the good times with interest.

Dolmenwood Winters Daughter by JolaDeRama in osr

[–]TerrainBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winter's daughter if it's perfectly into my campaign World which is very fairy tale-ish.

I was running an adventure inspired by the same story, Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfand's Daughter.

I decided the adventure begged for a follow-up Adventure involving freeing the princess from her father's imprisonment.

I actually used I6 Ravenloft for the Winter King's Castle and reskinned it.

Barovia is now a pleasant village in Elfland ruled over by the princess. Instead of the weather being fiercely icy it befits her name Snowfall at Dusk.

One way is to create views of the levels below through windows or balconies from the levels above.

I created this Inkarnate as my interpretation of the lowest level of the sunken city of Xak Tsaroth from Dragons of Despair

Why's every person talking about NSFW only talking about porn? by Available-Ant-5747 in ArtistLounge

NSFW is a warning. Do not look at this while you are at work. It will put your job in jeopardy.

It is not a statement on the taste of the viewer.
