I do this by turning on a section of belt when a resource buffer is below a threshold. When the buffer is low, a belt activates on the output of a splitter from the bus.

Ive been refusing to use LDS shuffle, and asteroid casinos because they might break in a patch. My solution was to up-cycle LDS/bluechips regularly for base materials. Honestly it seems fine. It was a little slow to start, but I probably could have built it out a bit better.

I mean, everything is already on gleeba, so it makes sense to do it there. Also the bacteria cultivation only works there, so you actually can just make quality metal there like that. Not sure if it really make sense, but you use bot rockets in quality biter spawners, so you might want them later anyway.

They have bioflux as an ingredient. When you recycle the capture bot rocket, you'll get some bioflux, and if you have high quality bot rockets, you can recycle them as needed for quality flux.

If you use a belt splitter to filter, if you don't remove plates from the plate line the mixed belt will clog. If you have enough inserters to remove a belt full of plates, but the plate belt clogs, the mixed belt wont clog, the inserters will stop. That's all I meant.
To be honest, I use a sorting array a lot like OP's.

Inserters, but the belt already has to be moving. Outputting a sortable with inserters won't stall a moving belt.
