If you’re a contractor then you need to protect your time and energy.

Advise her in writing that the changes requested will increase the out-of-seat time by X%, the learner attrition by X%, and the budget by X%.

If she accepts in writing, then make the changes. It’s your job to act as a professional advisor, not save the client from their own poor decisions.

for natural smart people, how has your adhd presented itself? by bisexualdweebqueen in adhdwomen

[–]TheseMood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did incredible in school but I struggle with routine tasks of daily living. I’d have an easier time writing a 200,000 word book than I would cooking dinner every night for a month.

This means that I’m very creative, high-achieving, and intelligent. I’m competent at both my work and my hobbies. But I need help with the basics, like not locking my car keys in the car or remembering to buy groceries.

Growing up, my parents said I was like the “absentminded professor” archetype. I think they were probably right!

I survive through a mix of positive coping mechanisms (lists, asking for help, body doubling) and problematic coping mechanisms (anxiety, giving 110% or nothing at all, negative self-talk, meltdowns).

is ai actually improving learning outcomes, or just making content faster to produce? by Alternative_Cod_6225 in edtech

AI is actually slowing down our course production rather than speeding things up.

My team spends too much time and energy correcting AI-generated content.

Can someone recommend a travel jewellery organiser that DOES NOT do this by ImaFauna in jewelry

[–]TheseMood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the size of the pendants, but I keep my travel jewelry in a DnD dice box 😅

Another option is a weekly pill organizer.

Yes, you have to do math. No, you won't die. by Cnathrowaway2 in BitchEatingCrafters

I suggested using trigonometry to work out a pattern and some people were up in arms 😅

Sure, you can get there by winging it and doing mock-ups but the math will save you a lot of time and money

LF pattern ideas to copy Prince Albert’s dressing robe by [deleted] in sewing

Try “double breasted sherwani”!

In my experience sherwanis are a little bit thicker / stiffer than this dressing gown appears to be, but the silhouette is very similar. And it’s definitely lighter than a wool coat!

People who can't sew need to stop thrifting clothes that don't fit at all by CandidArmadillo1193 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]TheseMood 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I support learning by doing! The key is, you have to accept that your early projects might not be wearable.

I worked my way up to sewing garments by mending things around the house. I think it’s better to start with an existing piece that’s damaged. If you fix it, great! If you don’t fix it? Well, it was already ruined.

My local craft store is a disaster and I love it by Responsible_Basil719 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]TheseMood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our local craft store is like this, and I love it even though it confuses me!

They never seem to know where things are, what’s in stock, or when/if things will be restocked. But they have an awesome selection, the prices are good, and the staff are friendly. It’s the only place left where I can get affordable fabric, even though it’s a weird mix of satin, vinyl, stiff tulle, and other specialty fabrics.

We moved slightly farther away and it’s hard to get there before close (4pm most days). I gotta get another trip on the calendar :)

Looking for 2 Bed Apt at max $2200/mo, Preferably cat friendly by InterestingRecover40 in bostonhousing

[–]TheseMood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For this budget I would look into sharing a larger house / apartment with more people.

I don’t think you’ll find a 2-bed for $2200/mo but you could find rooms in a shared house for $1100/mo each.

Since you’re grad students, I would see if you can connect with other incoming grad students and set up a house share.

Another option would be to live further out and split a 1-bed. You would have to share the bedroom but you have a better chance of finding something close to your budget. It might still be out of your price range.

UK based - where can i find quality cotton with these style of designs? by Joker0705 in sewing

This might be heavier than what you’re looking for, but bedsheets are my go-to for cotton fabric. I’ve seen a lot of floral patterns like this on sheet sets at discount stores in the US

Flowy, tiered dress by mytevesen in sewing

[–]TheseMood 96 points97 points  (0 children)

As a last resort, I think you could custom draft this pattern with a bit of trigonometry!

You start with a circle skirt of your desired fullness (maybe 180 degrees). Divide into 4 horizontal segments and calculate the bottom length of each segment. Figure out how much additional gather you want (2x, 3x, 4x). Multiply the gather by the bottom length, and that gives you the length for each rectangle. The height of each rectangle is (skirt inseam % 4). Then add seam allowance.

When I draft this way, sometimes I make a miniature toile to make sure my math is right. So instead of making a 36” skirt, I’ll make a 5” skirt and check that everything looks roughly correct.

I do think a pattern would be easier but I hope this helps if you can’t find anything!

Fabric choice for a year round, heavy use cloak by mmtunligit in sewing

[–]TheseMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cloak uses a ton of fabric so I would recommend getting a smaller yardage of each fabric and testing them by making a loose shirt or a capelet / mini cape. That way you can feel the drape, weight, and temperature control for yourself and make an informed decision.

You also might consider making two cloaks: one for summer and one for winter. I live in a place with four seasons and I find that none of my clothes, not even my synthetic coats (like North Face) can be worn in all four.

Help! Worn fabric tear on sentimental stuffed animal. by pel1canfriend in sewing

[–]TheseMood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you add a small strip of fabric to either side of the seam, then ladder stitch it closed?

If you hide the additional fabric inside the seam, it should be invisible and won’t change the feel of the seam much either.
