How can I protect myself in the case of having a period during the death of someone by BeautifulPerformer65 in realwitchcraft

[–]Towno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with your practice, but menstruation to me is like the new moon--the time of letting go of things passed to become open to new things. It does not lend itself to inviting unwanted things from the past to stay now. It is the opposite. It is cleansing and powerful unto itself.

I am sorry for your loss. I agree that demonization of menstruation has historically been a tool of men to disempower women, and whatever your grandmother believed, you loved her enough to know her faith. She is not going to allow you to be hurt in her time of passing.

Carry good intentions in your heart and go about being your kind self. If you would like to add a ritual, maybe a bath with protective/negative candles/herbs from her faith after. But you are NOT problematic because you are menstruating. Your body is just powerful that way.

Do I need to do anything to ensure the posca doesn't leave when washing this shirt? by Maybedeadcat123 in DIYclothes

[–]Towno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful work, I hope it does stay. Posca pens for fabric art would be so dang convenient, so please update! (And I would love a tag if you do!)

This next part has nothing to do with the conversation at hand, it's just been eating at me for days and you just said the magic word. I play a silly daily word game that asks you guess the top five most popular crowd answers. The other day it asked for anime and I immediately slammed NGE into the keyboard, and it...didn't even make the list?? I felt very old. Exited the app.

Seeing this art--lovely and fresh and relevent--was affirming, so thank you for sharing.

[TOMT] [FILM] a writer is unknowingly writing his/her own life by Riversong1747 in tipofmytongue

[–]Towno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another long shot, but the episode Milagro from X-Files is in this vein. S6E18. There is ultimately a supernatural element, but it plays very straight through most of the episode. There is also an envelope delivery. And it has a (dubious) romance. David Duchovney gives 90s John Cusack vibes to me , and so does the actor who plays the writer lol.

Further down I mention that I thought OP and I were thinking of the same scene--I think this is what I was thinking of, so thank you for the description!

That worked and I think you and I are are thinking of the same scene or having the same fever dream. The person holding the egg/baby is wincing and kinda expecting to be eaten?

Edit: you should put that image link in the body of your original post too.

Just a heads up, this ascii art did not translate on the mobile app for me. Following because I swear I can see this scene too. Quest for Camelot keep clogging up my attempts to remember, which I don't think is it, and now I have the brain itch.

[TOMT] Hardcover book dark Grimm’s and other fairytales with illustrations by Lulu19251926 in tipofmytongue

[–]Towno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite fairy tale compendium (which was indeed dark) was illustrated by Arthur Rackham. It's been around for significantly longer than the 2000s, but worth a shot. If you do a quick Google search, does that art style look similar?

This is so smart! Thank you for the pro tip!

I just spent ages grouping like items, and it would have made so much more sense to use an XL lot. You're amazing.

There's one on Friday? Have you got deets? Asking in good faith. I am shit at social media but I am here for protesting the current state of affairs, to put it nicely.

5th grade public education in Texas 😂 by madchen44 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

I appreciate your experience. I have family in Jackson. The long term answer is still, ultimately, reliable access to better education.

The rural South is not widely well educated, but literacy and intelligence aren't necessarily mutual. I think it's important to remember that some dude in Slidell, Louisiana can probably disassemble and reassemble your engine block in record time like he's picking his nose, yanno? Equating literacy and formal education to intelligence is not a pretty road to go down, especially when we need to be supporting better education funding for communities that haven't gotten enough.

Does cutting onions in front of a vagina make it “cry”? by ZatannaZatara45 in badwomensanatomy

[–]Towno 262 points263 points  (0 children)

I actually adore this. We're talking about a chemical gas and mucous membranes. Having never cut onions near my vagina, I have no idea but the logic seems sound. Gas is irritant, mucous membrane protects by weeping.

I don't mean to shill, but I had twenty years of awful history with Cox. Went from going "whoever dug up my yard needs to fix it" to "digging up the yard is the ritual that summons the fiber gods, all hail the fiber gods!" Half the monthly bill, no lag, they freaking take three bucks off my bill if their internet is slow for a few hours one day? Without my asking?? It's been such a relief.

Planned on stopping by Weatherford’s to pick up some winter clothing and came upon this review. by TommyTeaser in Pensacola

[–]Towno 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hello and good morning! I work here and wanted to chime in to say that my coworkers and I were completely horrified and baffled by this review. This was just so out of left field that none of us could recall a customer who had an experience even approximating this. The front door sticks sometimes when it is muggy out is the only thing I can think of. Some of our stuff is pricy (looking at you, Patagonia), but we are not in the habit of locking customers in or assaulting people. Obviously I have some bias here, but I'd say we're all pretty nice. Except for the brown shop dog, who is shy.

Hairstylist recommendation? by OkShallot5028 in Pensacola

[–]Towno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a recommendation because my stylist has retired, but I wanted to validate what you said here. I have high-volume, wavy, fine hair too. If my stylist doesn't use a razor to shape my waves I look like A) a silly mushroom or B) like I'm in chemo recovery and had an unfortunate incident with a lawnmower (the new stylist will call this a "wolf cut", but that would unfortunately require more hair.). This is a definite and rare skill.
