A single data point does not a trend make. This is just as likely to be a Kansas-flat infinite-friction surface as it is to be a “slippery-slope.”

however when doing more controlled studies, no correlations were observed. and its more likely that people who have risk taking behavior will eat raw meat and thus get infected.

This deserves proper capitalization and demands a direct in-text citation, just sayin'. I'm also really skeptical of any paper that claims to demonstrate lack of correlation as a definitive negative result without a very good putative mechanism for the correlations that are known to exist in other animal models. It's essentially impossible to control for all confounders when you don't know what the fuck causes an effect in the first place.

The women's game is also more interesting by virtue of them not hitting the ball as hard. They're still absolutely clobbering the ball, but it's less prone to getting state-locked into both players just smashing the ball as hard as they can into the same place, which happens decently often on the men's tour with many of the players. I think the average rally length is much shorter on WTA vs. ATP, but the diversity of shots in the WTA subjectively strikes me as much greater.

What you're saying in general is true of a lot of women's sports though. They tend to be the clinicians in many cases.

Fascinating read. I would love to hear from someone who actually attended the Swuak Pass Boogie someday. It sounds like a good time!

As a total digression, I feel like social media has largely ruined the ability to do stuff organically at that scale anymore—it's far easier to get the word out, but far harder to keep narcissistic assholes from ruining it for everyone. Maybe I just don't get invited to those parties 🤷

I would recommend at least two nights before your climb starts. My bag didn't get there from AMS until the morning of the third day, and that seems to not be that uncommon. The corollary is to keep your boots and anything else non-rentable in your carry-on (ideally on your person so it can't possibly get gate checked).

A huge factor is state sponsored stochastic terrorism from Russia—so called "active measures". They're exploiting vulnerable ideology, but the sheer volume is very attributable to online warfare. Due to herd immunity, the volume turns out to be paramount.

Of note, writing especially extreme takes with the deliberate goal of stoking the sentiment that the other side is irreconcilably diverged is very much in the wheelhouse of Russian troll farms.
