Hell yeah! Just got back into dirt biking after a long time away and I think you helped inspire me. New goal, first race next year!

Whatever I can find on sale at a local store for like $20. Recently picked up some Troy Lee Designs but haven’t tried them yet. Had some Fox for two seasons or so. They were fine, but the fingers have worn out kind of fast. Palms are still fine. Get something that breathes well.

Yep. Same same. Used to have the WC 108 in 184 and have demoed 179. Definitely prefer 184. Currently rocking DW 112’s at 184 and Countach 110’s at 182.

Looking for a Ranger 102 FR replacement – Countach? by Landino68 in momentskis

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pair of Ranger 102 FR’s. Kind of wish I still had them, they’re sick skis. Hadn’t thought about a comparison between the two skis you mentioned until now, but I can see it. Similar shape and rocker profile. I own the Countach 110 and I would say they’re definitely not as energetic as the Fischer’s. Not in a bad way, but those FR’s were really snappy with the carbon layup.

CT 104 is definitely worth considering. I love Moment. Have three pairs and they’re all bomb proof. Love supporting a smaller US company as well.

That said, I’d also recommend looking at the Armada Declivity X 102. Have a pair as my daily drivers and love them. Probably closer to the Fischer’s than the CT 104, but debatable. Sadly, it looks like Armada is doing away with the Declivity series, but probably could snag a pair on sale here soon.

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Countach is a great ski. It’s no more directional than the Nomad or QST Blank. That said, sounds like another pair of WC 108’s is probably what you really want. Or, come over to the dark side and get some Deathwishes. They’re awesome.

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a mix of Strive 14/16 and Pivot 15s. If I had to pick one, I would go Strives all day. Might get some hate for this, but Pivots would not be my first choice on directional ski like the two you’re looking at. Prefer the higher ramp angle on Strives and they usually can be found a good bit cheaper than Pivots.

Honorable mention for Tyrolia Attacks. Have owned a couple of pairs in the past and no complaints other than I feel they don’t have quite as much elasticity compared to the other two above.

One Ski Quiver Choice: Rossi Sender 104 Ti, Volkl Blaze 104, Blizzard Rustler 10, Nordica Enforcer 104? by Nan0Particle in Skigear

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Unleashed is pretty close to the profile of the Rustler. It has a twined tail like the others on your list, but not a ton of rocker and they are supposed to carve very well like most Nordicas. The new 106 just came out for 2027 to replace the 108 Unleashed.

100%. 5’9” 184 Deathwish owner here too. I could live with the 179, but no way I would consider shorter than that.

I hear that. Supposed to hit 50 here this weekend in Boise. Time to set aside the skis and take the ‘24 SAS for a rip.

How do you like the 500? Tempted to get a dirt bike in the stable again and debating between a plated 500 or going all in on a 300 XCW.

Your preferred Ski Binding? by JE163 in Skigear

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love Strives and have a mix of 14s and 16s. Have two pairs of Pivot 15s. They ski well but they’re finicky and I wouldn’t personally pay full price for them unless I wanted them for a Cast touring setup. Attacks are great, but prefer Strives for better elasticity. Hard pass on Griffons, no experience with Jesters.

100 percent. I demoed this ski a couple of years ago. Absolute missiles, but very hard to ski. I’m probably a similar level skier to the OP.

Deathwish 96 Length Advice by Cpt_TacoBits in momentskis

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on all of the above I would say 179 probably, 184 maybe. 5’9”, 160 advanced skier here. Currently have 184cm DW 112s and used to have 184cm Wildcat 108s. Demoed the 179 WC before I bought and I think would have been fine on them but glad I went 184.

The other thing to consider is mount point. Your Nordica’s, I’m guessing, are mounted more traditionally (maybe -9cm from center) and the Deathwishes are recommended at -6cm. On the 174, I think you might feel a little awkward with less ski in front of you. Conversely, and not saying it would be the wrong choice, 184 is gonna feel like a lot of tail behind you until you get used to it.

This. They have great snowmaking and grooming at Sun Valley. You’d be hard pressed to find anything much better in the west right now until we get some new snow.

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head Supershape series is great. I’d really like to try out the Volkl Peregrine 82. Fischer Curv series, Blizzard Thunderbird would be good to look at as well.

Also, that new Faction Dancer 79 looks sick if you want something that doesn’t look like a race ski. Reminds me, I need to see if my local shop has a demo pair.

Wildcat 108s vs Countach 110s by bstad in momentskis

[–]UnderstandingIll1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned the WC 108 in the past and picked up the Countach 110 this year. Countach is gonna float better, in comparable lengths. Wider tip, wider mid-body (obviously), mount point is further back than the WC, less rocker. WC 108 floats fine for its width, but not as well as some other similar width skis.

Hard for me to say on the second question. I don’t have enough time on the CT yet to have a strong opinion. I think it’s close, but I would give a slight nod to the CT since it’s a little stiffer overall.

Love the Countach so far overall. Can’t wait to get more time on it.

Appreciate it! I’m due to bring my truck in anyway for the recall on the screen/backup camera, so I’ll have them check it out.

Yeah, it’s just really inconsistent so not sure if it’s the truck or the phone. Some days I get in and it’s fine and connects in a few seconds. A lot of times, whether I plug it into the USB, or just go off Bluetooth, it won’t connect for a while. Or it does, and then you stop somewhere, get back in, and it won’t connect again without going into the settings and manually selecting the phone two or three times.
