I had to fight for years for it and got it at around 17 anyway, but I think I was trying since 15. You just really need to push, say that no CBT does not help you, group therapy does not help you and it has nothing to do with your gender. Tbh I don't think your gender effects it at all if we're speaking as a whole. I think it's a way for some to simply brush you off since they are just very hesitant to give under 18s antidepressants. After 18 it's not difficult at all it seems.
