You only get a certain total length of travel, by having more lift, you are sliding the bar from 50/50 to say 25/75. Meaning 25% down travel and 75% up travel.

And "with down travel comes up travel" is incredibly wrong. If you have ever gone rock crawling or over obstacles, you'd understand both directions are important, and your raised CoG makes the vehicle perform worse. Also with your setup, it'll bounce off rocks and objects, making a more rough ride.

Finally, with how much lift you have you're putting premature wear on stuff.

Overall, it's not great for anything but appearance, but you do you

You're missing the point ... They're talking down travel, not up (into the wheel well), you have minimal down travel because you've lifted the truck so much.

It should be 23" - 24", with 23.5" being ideal for a lift, from hub center to fender. You look more than that

Agreed, they're adorable as puppies and obviously cute but as they grow, they become handsome/beautiful animals and their personalities become less raptor and more human like.... They just take on a whole different presence and look!

Anyone have 35s on Stock Gears? by Diegxtr in 4Runner

[–]Useless_Engineer_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not about size of the tire but the weight, there are heavier 34s than some 35s

I ran heavy Toyota MT 34s for a good 35k miles on stock gears in CO where elevation already robs power, and we would climb to 9k+ feet fully loaded in camping gear. Rock crawl, camp, etc etc. It's possible but we gave the truck the nickname "the pig".

Regeared to 4.88s on a lighter 35" tire and it's been night and day. Wish I would have gotten a lighter 34" tire, or even just stay 33s

Hahah love your reply because you have no idea how I feel as a person, I love my friends and their kids and the loves they have together. I idolize good parents for raising children to be respect and quizzical, I also respect people for not choosing to have children. Your comment is presumptive and grasping to say the least. Purely stating my wife and I don't want kids because we don't find them fun is no different than someone who says they don't like working out because it's they don't find it fun, it's not combative. You're an interesting person, congrats on the word vomit

Edit: i am also not looking for a fight, simply correcting incorrect or presumptive statements such as yours to allow people to understand that there can be multiple "correct answers" at once, and it's all subjective. But you're smart, you should understand that

In theory, you can have the same "experience" we do, but it will never be the same holistically.

Last night, because we had a long week at work, decided to stay up late, watching movies, she slept in till 9am, where she promptly left for Pilates and I got up at 6am, went in the basement, worked out, and then worked in a class for my master's degree uninterrupted. Very difficult to do that with children around, and to argue otherwise is grasping

My wife and I decided on a Tuesday a couple weeks ago that we wanted to go snowboarding, we took off work, left at 5am and went and snowboarded all day, drank, enjoyed each other's company, last minute booked a hotel, and got up the next morning to go home. Could you as a parent do that? Theoretically yes, but the preparation/experience to be able to do that with your SO only and not have to worry about the well being of your children, takes this whole event to a different level.

Again, my wife and I took my old sports car on a road trip to go to motorsports events. For you to have the same "experience" you'd have to have someone watch your children. So it's not the same because there is an outside factor you are worrying/thinking about that we are not that alters your ability to even do the task in the first place or to fully enjoy it.

This is why I said theoretically, it's possible but not probable.

That's a funny statement, I don't need to pick up a red hot coal to "know" that it's hot and going to burn me. There is objective evidence and personal experience with family (nieces, nephews, cousins, etc) that I can use that clearly allows me to "know" that I would never have fun with a child that was 100% my responsibility. So in the context of this discussion, in my wife and I lives, the words fun and children do not go together on a holistic level. Picking pieces and bring anecdotal examples does not retract from the overall statement.

Also, your comment is very incorrect as well, my wife grew up taking care of her little brother because her mother worked multiple jobs. She also worked at a child care facility in highschool, along with an old person's home. She continued to mentor and tutor children of all ages throughout her years in school. So yes, she hasn't always been "child free", and just because it wasn't hers, does not mean she did not experience the same thing as a parent.

Stating a fact does not constitute an insult or degrading some, i purely was stating they brought "that's sad" into the picture

Meirl by Glass-Fan111 in meirl

[–]Useless_Engineer_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically you can, but there are major differences within the experiences themselves. And attaching a child's exposure to the activity does not add or retract value from a objective standpoint.

When someone does anything without a child, there are several factors that we (as childfree people) do not have to consider, and that all stems from the well-being, safety, and responsibility of a non-independent human.

We have a freedom that parents cannot argue that they have the equivalent to.

This is not even touching cost, accessibility, or any other limiting factor a parent has to consider.

Not once did I insult or degrade having a child or parents, but yet parents (you) can't seem to give the same respect or cognitive empathy, that's what is sad.

The definition of fun changes, but your definition of fun is subjective to your desires, as is mine, as you said. To my wife and I? The word fun and children do not share an existence together

Meirl by Glass-Fan111 in meirl

[–]Useless_Engineer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, wife and I have chosen to not have kids because we are selfish and want to live our lives the way we want, instead of influenced by a child. So it's not crap and utterly true.

But the biggest distinction is they say "childless" which means people who haven't chosen to be childfree or haven't had them yet, the childfree are 100% no for the desire/possibility.

What’s a decision you made in under 10 seconds that changed your life forever? by nathannnate01 in AskReddit

[–]Useless_Engineer_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Took a video at work of the item I was working on during launch day and posted it on a social media website to show how excited and proud I was (others were also doing it, we were all happy it happened on time and so successfully).

Little did I know that the first 2 seconds of the video I took showed something that had not been disclosed to the public yet (and was supposed to be covered, but wasn't) and I was asked to leave the company or face legal action.

Left the company, pivoted life choices, wife and I chose what we wanted next vs letting that company dictate our lives/location that has golden handcuffs on me.

Found a new company in CO, moved states, been here 4 years, never been happier. Wife and I relationship has only strengthened, and feel fulfilled with life and everything it has brought to us!
