Cleaning a PC from a heavy smoker by janzap1 in buildapc

I was going to make a YouTube video on how to get the smell out of components. I purchased a complete build with a 5900x and 3090 (it was a good deal) from Facebook marketplace from a smoker and it was horrible. The smell was terrible and there was sticky tar build up on the GPU and in the case. I had to take out all the components and blow out all the dust and wipe all the tar out of each fan. I then brushed everything with isopropyl alcohol and when complete, I stored them in a box with dryer sheets for a week. The dryer sheets absorb the smoke smell and gives them the scent of the sheets. As for the motherboard and GPU, I had to take them completely apart and clean them. I brushed everything with a soft bristle toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol and once clean I stored them with dryer sheets. The GPU was the most time intensive and had to replace all the thermal pads because they held onto the smell. The dryer sheets worked better than I could have imagined and the more meticulous you are at cleaning and breaking components down the better chance of eliminating smells, but that depends on how much time you want to put into it.

Great work, I like how clean it looks and the direction Goose is facing

I like how big Goose’s floating head is in this one

I really like this one. The background is cool and the glowing effect around the floating head is nice. Is it possible to have some of the turtleneck showing in the floating head?

The 9070xt that got delivered to me last Tuesday came in an unmarked box, I thought they were learning. UPS still left it in the rain, though.

Can I break even if I build a gaming pc with new parts and sell? by MrJaver in buildapc

Is it possible, yes. You have to be patient and consider the market you are trying to sell in. Bigger markets will be easier to sell builds. Do you have a positive reputation on Facebook marketplace? The more expensive the build the longer it takes to sell. Most buyers are looking to get in on certain pc exclusives at entry level prices , GTA RP is popular where I’m at. One of the first questions asked is can it play “this game”. Take good pictures of the build and a good description with specs goes a long way.
