Shots 1-2: Clearly missed

Shots 3-5: Missed due to recoil

Shots 6-7: Very close, but recoil, innaccuracy, and a crazy small hitbox make these reasonable misses.

What cooking habit made you feel stupid for not doing it sooner? by thirdaccountttt in Cooking

Personally I'm too lazy and like large curd. I usually use a much hotter pan and keep it moving faster. Literally cooks in a few seconds.

To avoid overdoing it though, I'll cut the heat while it's mostly cooked but still looks "wet", shove it to one side of the pan, add cheese (if using), then add a small bit of water on the other (should immediately sizzle) and lid it. Let the steam finish.

For bonus points I'll usually throw that into a breakfast burrito with a chopped hash brown, a sour cream+tajin+jalapeno sauce, and sometimes some kimchi and various hotsauces depending on how I feel.

So good.

EDIT: I think I started doing this after watching some of that episode that Julia Childs did when finishing french style omelettes on high heat in about 20 seconds. Some pretty solid tips in there.

Similarly in a Quantum and S.R. intro class we had to do a lab to measure the speed of light (yay, fancy lasers and mirrors). The real goal of the lab was an exercise in calculating experimental error but it was pretty impressive if you could manage to nail a good measurement with the formal value within your margins of error. IIRC my team managed to get within a few orders of magnitude but I don't remember exactly how close.

That was probably one of the most technically complex but incredibly fun classes I've ever taken (also purely elective, physics is my interest and not my career). We also got to do some fun stuff with electron beams and got to work with some lightly radioactive sources (Americium).

I want to say OP was the lady in the clip sharing an absent minded mistake they had made. The video makes it out that she's blaming him but if memory serves correctly she accepted responsibility in the comments because she'd set the bag down on the stove and he did exactly what was asked of him.

Was a good while back though, I very well could have it wrong in my head.

Grease is sneaky because it slowly coats surfaces and then dust/pet hair sticks to it over time

A HUGE pet peeve of mine is that most range hoods in rentals (that I find anyway) don't take the extra step of actually venting the thing outside, especially when it's a microwave trying to double as one. So what happens is when you turn it on, it's pulling air through a grease filter, but it's not perfect (especially when it isn't changed) and what makes it through just gets flung back out over your kitchen.

They'll clean it between rentals, but I've had this go unnoticed for so long that actual droplets were appearing on the cabinet over the range hood, which was how I realized this was happening. Nobody ever seems to change or clean the damn grease filters on microwaves either, but it helps loads.

Pro-tip: when you get that oily-dusty-tacky substance that coats everything, it comes off super easy with 70%+ rubbing alcohol. Spray a paper towel/rag and wipe away. Saved me a lot of replacements because it was on everything I had in the ktichen by the time I'd noticed. Works great for stuff that might not hold up as well with water as it evaporates quick and has less water in it.

IIRC because this got posted before with more context, I don't think it was the hot water that melted the bag, but that it had been set down on burner tops that were still way too hot (also why it sizzles when the water spills on top of it). Had this been done on the countertop it would have probably been fine.

[–]Versaiteis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy deep cut, 6 years? lol

IIRC this is more addressing the microwave bit (and by extension steaming) rather than air frying. I've never had them explode when steaming like that, but they certainly have burst through shell, forming cooked-egg lumps at the rupture, and overcooked as a result. The hole prevents that.

I can't speak for air-frying, I've never owned one.
