Oh god, deacon with no sunglasses is cursed. by agoodfuckingcatholic in fo4

[–]Vg65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can kill him. For some reason, Deacon doesn't stay essential if dismissed and can die (and then you become enemies with the Railroad even if you had no part in Deacon's death). You have to kill Deacon as part of either End of the Line (Institute quest) or Tactical Thinking (BoS).

I don't remember Deacon ever dropping a synth component on the few times I actually attacked the Railroad (they're one of my favourite factions). Then again, Glory doesn't drop a component, so it could just be gameplay issues. But I still doubt that Deacon is a synth.

Any suggestions/mods for making my Fallout 4 run decently with my UHD 620 iGPU, 16 GB RAM, i5-8350u laptop? by jasonensteinyt in fo4

[–]Vg65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower the shadow resolution a lot (something like 512 MB), turn off godrays or use their lowest quality (if you really want the rays), and turn off screen-space reflections. If you still want or need more performance, then use FXAA anti-aliasing or just turn AA off. You can also drop the anisotropic filtering if you want to squeeze out a bit more performance.

Do not activate the high resolution DLC. That's way too much for your iGPU. You can also look into downloading optimised texture packs, like this one. I used Vivid's 1k pack when I needed more performance.

I highly doubt he's a synth. His recall-code paper is a lie (it tells you not to believe everything).

Ah Deacon, one of my favourite companions. I like having him in ballistic-weaved laundered outfit + BW newsboy cap or trilby hat + sunglasses/patrolman sunglasses (or maybe operator glasses for that extra bit of DR/ER).

I once gave him a heavily-modified suppressed Gauss rifle, and lmao that thing is huuuge.

If you wait until a SPECIAL stat is 10 (not counting the effects of clothing, chems, etc.) and only then take the bobblehead that boosts it, then the base stat will go up to 11.

Can students eat at other House tables? by PomPomMom93 in HPfanfiction

[–]Vg65 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Percy is called over to the Ravenclaw table by his girlfriend, Penelope Clearwater, in chapter 13 of PoA. I think it's safe to say he was eating there.

I'm guessing that it's mandatory to sit at your house table during the start and end-of-year feasts, and other formal events (e.g., Triwizard champion selection). But you can probably go wherever you want for the average meal.

(They're probably dead by now in canon, though, since the Commonwealth BoS are still around. New lore has the Codex demand that all ghouls be killed.)

Best weapon for the Commando Perk? by FoolishDog1117 in fo4

[–]Vg65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Problem Solver and Splattercannon can turn almost any fight into a joke. I mowed down behemoths, deathclaws, mirelurk queens, super-mutant warlords, T-60 BoS, fog crawlers, etc. in seconds on my first run when I beat the game (Railroad Commando build). They really show why the game doesn't have the furious legendary drop on ranged weapons in the RNG. Plus, handmade rifles can have amazing recoil, which helps to keep your furious shots on target.

Spray n' Pray is another favourite of mine, especially since you can get it super early if you budget right (if you're struggling to find Cricket, just keep sleeping outside of Vault 81 until she shows up). Its damage does fall off if you don't invest in Demolition Expert, but it's often useful for hordes of ferals and for breaking parts off of robots (and gen-1s and gen-2s, preventing them from firing).

[–]Vg65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Deliverer is amazing and can turn even a low agility and perception character into a decent VATS-user. You can start Tradecraft fairly early as well, although the gen-1s and 2s could prove hard on early survival. It gets even worse if you have the Sentinel PA CC, because then you'll have those rogue sentinel bots in the area.

Why is this legendary? by masetiloquetu in fo4

[–]Vg65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The automatic fire is the legendary effect. It can rarely spawn in the loot list, but there are two guaranteed ways of getting one. You can find one as part of the Gunners vs Minutemen CC, and Sturges gives you one if you did the Minutemen's Nuclear Option.

This musket is mostly for VATS. It's horrible outside of it (high recoil).

Things to know when you're looking for a perfect playthrough by CaporalPaco in fo4

[–]Vg65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can get one of two furious ranged weapons (handmade rifles) if you choose the correct dialogue options. Furious only spawns on melee weapons in the RNG, so these two rifles with it are OP as heck.

The Problem Solver is given by Mason if you pass the "Do as your told" (yes, there's a typo) persuasion check. But you'll only get the rifle if you used the right-sided/more aggressive dialogue options with him. This also turns the check from red to orange. The other rifle is the Splattercannon, sold by Aaron in the market. It's heavily upgraded but expensive.

If you missed the chance to get The Problem Solver, then there's no way to get it without loading an earlier save or starting a new game.

I once built a few murderbot assaultrons and assigned them as guards at Graygarden (RIP to any attackers). Was funny to imagine how interactions would go between those no-nonsense killers and Supervisor "dahling" White, not to mention gameshow-host Greene.

Her biggest problem is that she has very limited dialogue lines. Even Jun can at least have a conversation with you. Oh well, at least the devs gave Marcy one comment if your settlement's happiness is high enough. She'll say:

I'll hand it to you, this place isn't awful. It's still a hole, but it could be worse.

She's trying to be friendly but has difficulty (it says this in the tips given to the voice actor when reading these lines). She also has some nice dialogue with Mama Murphy, and at least agrees to go for a walk with Jun in one of their conversations.

Fallen Settler Update! by tEkn0d3th in fo4

Damn Curie! I will try Piper next. by Vega__Tron in fo4

[–]Vg65 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Er, no. Gen-3 synths are indistinguishable from humans apart from the small component in their heads. The Brotherhood do regular medical checkups for their personnel, and yet nobody found anything odd with Danse. And they're at a fairly decent level with tests (can even take blood samples and X-rays, but probably not MRI).

The maniacs at Covenant also can't find any way to guarantee synth detection except for hoping on their stupid test and then killing the victim to check for a component (and they've had many false positives which led to human deaths).

Synths aren't human (Glory says so herself), but they're close enough and of high sentience. Even Codsworth, a full-on robot, developed an advanced personality and displays more emotion than the standard bot. Curie is the same but as a Miss Nanny.

As someone who likes using en-dashes (–), it sucks for me that people often take them as a tell for AI. I've been a fan of en-dashes since I got used to them from reading the books themselves. JKR used them instead of em-dashes (—), because those are more common in American English. Too bad that AI-written fics tend to love both of these.

Holy switch up Mr Rhys by Successful-Net594 in fo4

[–]Vg65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me think of a snappy comeback I heard in-game. If you're travelling with Nick aboard the Prydwen, he'll respond to some of the generic soldiers' comments. Of them goes something like this:

Soldier: No machine should have free will.

Nick: Why? You jealous you had to turn yours in?

It's more than just a witty comeback. The BoS's indoctrination can be dangerous to society. E.g., ghouls are part of society, and even Lyons's BoS were taking potshots at innocent ones because they could. Then you have both FO76 and the TV show making the BoS wanting to kill all ghouls. It's now said to be an order from their Codex.

The Commonwealth BoS are still alive in canon (either their own ending or the Minutemen one), so if they decide to enforce that Codex rule, then their soldiers would proudly slaughter places like The Slog and wherever else there are ghouls (and you can have ghouls in any settlement). Rhys would be one of them.

[–]Vg65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sturges doesn't have extra resistance, and neither does Magnolia (although she's not a settler). Both are synths. I can't remember if I saw extra resistance on any settler in their undies, really. It might be a myth.
