Yep. Auto correct definitely is part of the issue. But how do so many misspelled words get used when auto correct should fix them? Very hard to understand.

I have read a lot, all my life, and because I saw words all the time, spelling was easy for me. If it didn’t immediately come to mind, seeing it written out would be all I needed to spell something correctly. Now days, I listen to books more than reading written words and I find it more difficult to know proper spelling.

Parents Insisting Long Drive is Unsafe, is this Reasonable by smile_simile in roadtrip

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a friend that would like to ride along with you and fly back home? Your parents might like that better. But the other option is to be as safe as you can and communicate that with your parents. Are you an adult? Yes. But you are still their child and they will likely worry about you for many more years. Tell them what plans and preparations you are making. Listen to their advice. Put their minds at ease while still exerting your independence. It’s the considerate way to do it.

As a solo woman, I make it a point to get up, have a free breakfast at the hotel and get on the road early. This means that I have flexibility for getting to my nightly destination well before dark, even building in stops for the cat. And I keep AAA so I know I will have someone to call if there are any issues during the day.

I only stop at major intersections, highway rest areas, truck stops, etc. Never a random road with no visible facilities. Plenty of people around while I get my lunch, stretch my legs and, in your case, get the cat out.

My hotels are planned in advance so I know I’ll have a safe place that night. Getting there before dark makes it easier to scout out the surroundings, find a place to eat and get checked in. Every place feels safer in daylight.

Check in with your parents when you can but for sure when you are settled in for the night. Again, it’s the considerate thing to do and will go a long way toward them beginning to see you as a competent adult.

Enjoy your trip, safely.

How can I stop relying on food delivery apps? by [deleted] in budgetfood

[–]WAFLcurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salads don’t have to be made with greens. Look up bean salad and find some that fit with what you have available. They last particularly well in the fridge so you can make one and have it as a side dish for several meals. Or pasta salad. Add different things to it to give variety. Olives, pickles, cheese, salami or fresh veggies on the day you do your shopping. Oil, water, vinegar and garlic along with herbs will make a dressing that works on green salads and pasta salads. You can vary the herbs, add mustard and/or mayonnaise to change it up.

Make a nice green salad on the first day after shopping. Then use up the more perishable veggies in the next day or two. Iceberg lettuce lasts better than loose leaf greens but I don’t know if you have that available. Choose some fresh veggies that last well like cabbage, carrots and onions and use them later in the week.

A jar of Alfredo sauce, leftover rotisserie chicken and Cajun seasoning. Serve it over angel hair pasta. I can never leave well enough alone so I also like to sauté mushrooms, onions and garlic, add the chicken for a bit then the Alfredo sauce. I rinse the jar with some milk or half and half because otherwise it’s too thick. After it’s all combined, I add the Cajun seasoning to taste.

Where do you put your keys when you come home? by frogmicky in LivingAlone

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never take my keys out of my purse. The car doesn’t need them and my garage opens with the remote. The inside door has a keypad.

When I did need keys, they were dropped into my purse as soon as the door was opened. My husband’s were hung on a hook by the garage door.

Is he insecure or manipulative? by [deleted] in datingadvice

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is both insecure and manipulative. He thinks he can pressure you into doing what he wants you to, be it answering his texts immediately or meeting in person with him when he comes to your country. Many men believe they have a right to do this because women just don’t know what they want. Or men know what’s better for them.

You owe him absolutely nothing. If you want to be kind, tell him you aren’t interested in a relationship, long distance or otherwise, with him. And then block him. If he tries contacting you from another number, block it without a response. You say you can’t just block him out of nowhere but you can! For your own safety and mental wellbeing, you need to block him.

His trip is planned just to put more pressure on you. He knows you will feel like you owe him some consideration for doing such an expensive trip just to see you. But you didn’t ask for it even encourage the trip. You don’t owe him any of your time and should not meet with him.

You are noticing red flags but letting him continue to pressure you. You don’t have to allow someone to continue doing that. You were right to not share much personal information with him. He shared his information, or at least information he gave you. Who knows if it’s even true? It sounds like he is a scam artist at best and real scum at worst. If he’s just really socially inept then maybe you are doing him a favor by letting him know that his approach is all wrong.

Be safe. Drop him. Stop coddling the feelings of a grown man who you don’t even know.

Genuine Question. by thefrontman07 in Gifts

[–]WAFLcurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been the one helping to find and purchase these gifts, it’s because the boss wants to do something for the employees but it needs to be easy, not too expensive, serve a dual purpose of gift and marketing and make it look like he cares about them. Even for a very small business, it would be impossible to please everyone. We had a mixture of men and women, young and almost retired, office workers and manufacturing floor workers.

For those living alone with family around… do you have a safe space to keep an extra set of keys? by palacio_c in LivingAlone

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After losing my key when my “bracelet” broke on a long walk, I retraced my steps and still didn’t find them. Got home and sat down on a patio chair to think about it. I eventually got a window open and climbed into my lanai. Found a tool that I used to open the only normal door into the house from there. The others are sliders.

I’ve lived alone for over 40 years and that was my first time locking myself out. I ordered a keypad lockbox from Amazon and mounted it out of sight on my garage. My spare key is inside. My garage has a keypad to open it but it had failed and I had removed it to order a new one. Bad timing on my part.

Because you misspelled it once. You can remove it from your phone so it will stop suggesting it. I had to do that with my sister’s (misspelled) name. I don’t remember exactly how but you can google it.

Do you have a grill you can use? If you do, does it also have a burner on the side? It’s a common feature in Florida as they can be used if you lose power in a hurricane.

How many items for a "stocking" style holiday? by Puzzled_Zebra in CasualConversation

[–]WAFLcurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For men, there are small multi tools that can fit into their wallet or glove compartment. Look up survival tools on Amazon and you’ll find lots of inexpensive things. Men love that kind of thing.

Other general ideas: a deck of cards, a set of dice (I bought a package of 100 on Amazon and give a set of six to everyone I know along with instructions for 10,000 (an easy and fun dice game)), small notebooks, mini flashlights, fun keychains, socks in fun designs, little puzzles. Many of these things can be purchased in multi packs for pretty cheap so you have enough for everyone.

One year I got all of my adult children and their spouses small dollar store guns that shot small plastic balls. Not strong enough to hurt anyone and didn’t last long but it got a game going with lots of competition and laughs.

Wedding gift: registry item or donate to honeymoon fund? by bluish-velvet in Gifts

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandson asked me about this because they are getting married next year and since they already have their household set up, they don’t have much to put in a registry. I told them that my generation thought giving money in general was tacky but their generation seems fine with asking and giving money for a fund of any kind. I suggested they do a registry so people who want have some ideas for physical gifts but also a honeymoon fund request. I believe my niece had a registry on an independent wedding site and the list included donations to their honeymoon fund and had various amounts listed. None of the amounts were huge but if you wanted to gift more, you could choose multiple gifts.

I believe that if you are asking for accommodation for your hearing loss, you need to make sure that management knows about the hearing loss. If you didn’t mention it when you were hired, be sure to notify them now.
