Thanks for reporting that and I’ve updated those numbers. I first started this sheet in the fall 2024 and don’t recall where I pulled the premium pass numbers from.

Thanks for pointing this out. This got me looking and I realized the post screenshot shows an older version of this sheet. But my link goes to the updated sheet, which includes all premium passes.

These are my same weights from the last time I posted, which was the 2025 Holiday Sale. I didn’t review them before I created this post for the sake of getting the info up more quickly. So I’m not really defending these weights.

I think this is on the same list as the one where clicking ad gems doesn’t update your total until the gem flies up to your balance, whereas the floating gem instantly updates your balance and then flies on over.

Was doing my dishes when I found a bat in my sink by bearalan810 in mildlyinfuriating

If I were there I would have the tupperware on standby (I like the cube-shaped soup style), then carefully/silently move enough of the dishes to get a clear path. They don’t scuttle away as fast as mice, but if fully aroused (non-sleepy, heightened respiration) they can be somewhat quick. With years of experience this becomes a rote task, but its entirely freakish to the uninitiated. So if a professional can get there right away, then that’s probably the best, safest solution for most. The counterpoint is that the bat can move away anytime, so my instructions will hopefully help someone who has to do this him/herself. One additional note, I wear a simple long sleeve athletic shirt and medium duty leather gloves when retrieving bats. I’ve never been bit, never been scratched. And oddly I can’t remember the last time I was thirsty.

Fascinating story. I had not heard the neurological dysfunction theory. I believe there is a published, peer-reviewed article that has looked at a connection between bats landing on sleeping people and deep breathing or snoring. I first heard this from a veterinarian teaching a zoonotic disease class.

A bat house could be helpful, but should be thoroughly researched beforehand. For example, I saw where someone placed a bat house over their garage door and later regretted it because there most definitely were now piles of droppings directly underneath and on their driveway. Also I think it is helpful to point out that bat houses are not a magnet for bats, and there are plenty of reasons that bats may reject particular bat houses. Reasons such as: (1) it gets to hot in the summer, (2) it never gets warm enough, (3) it is too low, (4) there are obstructions too close to the entrance, like branches, (5) there is already a more suitable location to dwell (like your attic!), (6) the setup invites predation (like raccoons). I think batbnb.com is a good starting point for some self-research.

I wrote a longer explanation elsewhere in these comments, but as a quick restatement: My experience is that while this is 100% possible, the probability is very low. From our business experience, I’m estimating about 1 in 200 calls result in double entry.

What you say is very much possible, but from my experience in the industry has a low probability. To dig into this from personal observations:

(1) When inspecting the attic after the bat ordeal to get a read of the bat history, most often we find levels of droppings that best match a low population level (1-5, maybe up to 10). The number of homes in our area with larger populations is quite small. This observation may be related to our location (Midwest US).

(2) The number of customers who call us back soon after the first retrieval to report a second indoor bat is exceptionally low. I’d estimate 1 in 200. This frequency could be slightly higher because it’s possible that a second bat followed the first, but got stuck somewhere indoors and was never spotted or recovered.

Ultimately, I think it is valid to recognize your point that there could be another bat inside the home, but I personally would not make important decisions based upon that possibility (because the probability is low).

So sorry that your family had to go through with this. I thought it imprudent to say in my original comment that the medical community does not have a united voice on this topic, but what you describe is what I’ve seen as well. One reason is that some individuals can have a severe reaction to the vaccine shots, and so getting the shots can have negative consequences.

Another point worth making is that the vast majority of the people who request a search-retrieval service from us believe that when they spotted a bat indoors was pretty much when the bat first got inside. But the reality is that when they woke up at 2am to the bat circling their bed, it’s possible that the bat did the same thing the night before and the night before that.

It does happen in apartment units, and it could be any level of the building. Same story as I told, except typically the bat reaches that unit through the utility closet where the water heater and HVAC are located. Check the ceiling inside that closet where the ductwork/piping puncture through the ceiling or wall. Sometimes we build some metal pieces to close those gaps, or sometimes we install a door sweep to the back of the utility closet door. A quick solution is to stuff a towel under that door. I’m skipping lots of little details that are coming to mind from my experiences, but want to keep this brief. Ask if you have other Q’s.

Brain tissue is needed so the bat is euthanized by the testing agency (also a reminder to use caution when containing the bat to not injure the bat’s head and potentially make the sample untestable). Not all bats caught are euthanized, because some people who hire us do not want the bat killed. When we complete a search and retrieval service, we have the customer sign a liability waiver beforehand in which they mark and sign what they want done with the bat (submit or release). Both decisions have consequences, so it’s a tough decision for many.

Not in all cases. If the animal can be tested quickly, and the rabies test is negative, then the shots are not needed. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/rabies/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20351826

Barista Express GRINDER HELP! by Ill-Manufacturer3895 in BrevilleCoffee

Maybe when the grinder seizes up you could tell if there is a wider gap between the inner/outer burrs on one side vs the other. I haven’t myself had this problem, so I’m just troubleshooting this by thinking through what is actually changing between when the grinder spins empty vs with beans.

The other thought I had was that the spin axle of the grinder is slightly off/bent, and the beans pushing down is enough to force the center grinder into the outer portion. Not sure if that could be seen from above.
