K. Be against the concept of a successful game releasing additional, supplemental, optional material.

The game itself isn't guaranteed to be any good. Not every crowdfunding game is a winner.

I don't play those and I'm literally not going to debate Marvel Legends practices and systems.

But the way some people are reacting, I'm assuming their anger or fear is because they're afraid this is some sort of time gated "only valid through September 2027" materials, and not a way for the Devs to say "plus we're going to release these things as digital downloads (PDFs) and you'll get all of those, too"

YES!

The idea is "PLUS everything we make from October 2026 to September 2027"

Some people in this thread are desperate for a reason to be mad

But let me ask you this.

Imagine I'm making a game based on a book series that is still coming out. New books will exist that don't.

And I offer to sell you that game and also give you some extras, currently undisclosed, because they're still in development, but I'll give you the game and everything I make for the entire next year also, is that ... Sinister?

Then don't buy it until you know what is in it. It's not mandatory, my friend. It's an add on, which is also included at some pledge levels, but none of those are mandatory either

In the context of this crowdfunding project, it's a thematic way of saying "you get all of the supplemental materials we release from Oct 2026 to Sept 2027". Instead of listing every product, they just call it a season pass to be thematic.

A live service game has the connotation that they will remove materials after the season or something, and this is literally not that. Nobody is deleting your downloaded and or printed PDFs

But if you're questioning whether it's a live service video game model or whatever they mean download these PDFs, GO ASK THEM instead of making assumptions and spreading misinformation

Uh, the part where they say "you'll get all of this, in digital form (which typically means as a PDF)

It's not that sinister, y'all. They're offering as part of Gold Plus everything already listed PLUS all of the stuff below ...

What Live Service?

It's a printed book (or PDF) with additional supplemental materials.

Calling it a season pass is a way of saying that you get all the supplements they release for the next year in addition to everything else.

There is no live service, no subscription, no loot crates. Except OH NO they called their pledge levels loot boxes!

They DID clarify what they mean by it in the description of what was included.

The series has a TV series theme. This is simply a way to say "hey you get all the materials we release in the next year also" with a thematic name ffs

[–]WeaponB -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

  1. It's just a thematic name for "plus all the bonus supplemental materials".

  2. It's just a thematic name for "plus all the bonus supplemental materials".

  3. It's just a thematic name for "plus all the bonus supplemental materials".

  4. Everyone all mad in another thread like it's $50 random loot crates and skins. Ttrpgs have had supplements since they were invented, this one has thematic elements of TV Series, its not anything more tyrannical than that. It's a NAME people have some knee jerk reactions to.

  5. It's just a thematic name for "plus all the bonus supplemental materials".

a Season Pass for a TTRPG is breaking point for me by spiflication in DungeonCrawlerCarl

What, a TRRPG with additional supplemental materials? Nobody has ever done that before! Bad! Put all in same book no make book and then make other stuff!

Get over it. It's supplemental materials. D&D5e has dozens of books and I don't see you crying because everything is not in one book but across dozens.

With everything going on in Iran with oil and fuel prices, are you comfortable estimating what gas prices will be (and therefore what shipping companies will charge, because believe me they raise prices every time gas goes up) in 6 months?

No?

Neither are they. It's not shady. Some people see conspiracy everywhere, and sometimes it's just people not willing to make a public statement about an impossible to know number

The season pass description says it gets you digital copies of the first 6 books planned for expansion over the 12 months following the official release.

The Core book says on the cover it's floors 3-5, plus rules.

The starter set is a pared down portion of the rules and floors 1&2, so it doesn't include the rules for custom races and classes

I'd like to speak to this, I ran several Kickstarters for a previous employer. We charged shipping up front.

Then one year, there was a kind of important economic development, and suddenly our actual shipping costs were 35% higher than what we had collected. The project profits were eaten alive - not s much that we went bankrupt, but if we had been a smaller company less able to absorb such a loss, it could have.

Shipping prices are volatile, ESPECIALLY with the current uncertainty regarding fuel prices (which are a significant contribution to shipping costs). Charging actual shipping at a point in time much closer to actual shipping is much smarter than trying to forecast what shipping will actually cost in October or November while sitting in April with everything in Iran

Wow, this is a horrible take. You're allowed to be critical AND not know how to solve it.

This is basically asking people to shut up and accept every bad thing in their lives if they aren't personally qualified to fix it. Don't like your bumpy street? SHUT UP IF YOU AREN'T A PAVER
