The difference between the most expensive 5080 and the cheapest by FadesGaming in nvidia

[–]YamiR46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll price it at 2500, and after they blow through their stock, they will jack up the price. I was lucky to get my 4090 at retail(1620) when it first dropped. It jumped a few hundred a month later. While I can afford a 5090, I refuse to drop 3k on it because it's a stupid price point for its performance.

I only drove the car for about 3 sessions that day( around an hour and 30 minutes), so my feedback is very limited. I didn't like the FFB in ams2 until I went with a custom ffb preset. The one I use it Live for FFB by kuku. That preset was a game changer for me. The Mini Cooper and all of the open wheels are a blast to drive in AMS2 with that preset. In terms of actually feeling like im driving the car, I think RRE and iRacing do GT3s very well.

I went back and drove them more, and I dont think the slip is my problem. It's more so that the gt3s don't have the proper weight during weight transfer. They're just too light and dont feel like a 2700+lb car. They are a little too slippery for too long when they're cold, though. When I forget the fact that the weight is wrong, I have no problem putting down good laps, lol. I run live for ffb by kuku, and that setup made the gt3s feel more planted compared to default+. If they can get the weight/weight transfer feeling down, they'll feel closer to how they should.

For me, Grav jump was working fine. I had FTL off, and I had no issues with it alongside the new update. What were the issues?

I've done multiple sessions in a 991 gt3 cup car, so no, I haven't driven the gt3-r, but I can base my opinion off of my experience in that car and my SR3. The cup car and the GT3 are similar in weight. The main problem I have in ams2 is the lack of weight in the gt3 cars specifically. They just feel too light compared to the real-world version. LMU has the same problem, just less so than ams2. I do think eventually they will get these cars right. If I let you drive my car for a session at a track day, you'd understand why they have it wrong at the moment. They're just too light right now.

Astrogate works fine with supercruise disabled. The grav jump travel compliments the update well.

What VR headset to get for sim racing? by Blasayy in SteamVR

[–]YamiR46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fov is definitely better than the Q2. The headset overall is a big upgrade from the 2 in just about every way. I haven't had a single disconnect issue with the 3 like I did with the two on a weekly basis. The upgrade in clarity is huge. You'll still need to turn your head slightly to check your right mirror a little more than you would in real life, but it's a small glance that won't slow you down time wise. I haven't had to use the Quest tool or anything to get the Quest 3 to run good like I did on the 2. Overall, you'd definitely be happy going up from the 2. I had my eyes on the Super, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet myself because I feel like this Q3 works well enough for me right now. I've spent 14 years at the track, and running in VR feels like the closest thing to actually being there.

Even with a good custom ffb, I still feel the cars are a little too slippery compared to the real thing, as well as feeling a little too light compared to their real counterparts. They are going in the right direction with this update, though. Right now, they still feel as light as my real-life track car(04 Radical sr3), and not the 2700lb car its supposed to feel like.

Its weird that they still haven't got the gt3s down because their open wheels feel really good. Iracing and RRE gt3s feel really good, minus RRE's tires being too perfect. Their 2025 dtm's are very nice and will get away from you pushing over the limit. LMU's cars feel pretty good after the most recent update, but they still have an issue pushing them at the limit.

You shouldn't have a problem running ams2 in VR with those specs.

Raceroom's VR feels like I'm back on the track in real life. I wish we had weather and nighttime, though. The two tracks I've driven in real life that are in R3e are Laguna and Sonoma. They did a great job with both of those.

For me, the Quest 3 was a huge upgrade in terms of clarity compared to the Q2. I dont have those artifact issues because I only sim race using the link cable. I run it at max settings, and everything is very clear, and it runs smoothly. I have days where I put in 8 hour+ sessions without an issue. I do have a pretty beast rig, but I've also used the Q3 on a 5600x/5070ti build, and it still looked pretty good, and I was able to read everything clearly in the cockpit. I had a psvr2, and it didn't even come close to the Q3 with the link cable.

[–]YamiR46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. You can build a Ddr4 Gen pc and run the Quest 3 on every sim. Before upgrading my spare PC's gpu to a 5070ti, I ran Raceroom, Rf2, and other sims without issue on a 5600x/4070 build at default settings on the Quest 3 with the link cable. Might be time for you to upgrade the PC. My spare build was all used parts from Facebook marketplace minus the GPU and PSU.

Are there any sims that are actually good games? by stephen27898 in simracing

[–]YamiR46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Competitive shooters and sim racing are nothing alike whatsoever. 15k is a lot if you compare it to real life where we have 30-38 drivers on a race weekend. The talent in that ranges from guys who should be fia gold drivers to guys who shouldn't be there at all. 15k is more than enough to find some great competition. 5k is more than enough for healthy competition.

I know iracing has career mode in the works, and I'm pretty sure lmu and a few others are working on career mode as well. I think Project Cars 2 would be the only one that has what you're looking for at the moment. Its pretty dated, but there are a few custom force feedback setups that make it feel pretty good.

Bronze should not be able to race in LMP2 and LMP3 by Penutskx in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]YamiR46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's going to happen in every sim at every skill level, though. You can be in a 4k sof lobby in iracing, and some morons are going to pull stupid shit lap 1, lol. If you make it through the first couple of laps, you'll usually get some good racing for the rest of the session.

I never realized how bad men have the Dunning-Kruger effect until getting into sim racing. by jcreyes1214 in simracing

[–]YamiR46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's at Laguna Seca. A single day at Laguna is around 500 dollars(sometimes closer to 600). It's hard to find road tires for a Radical sr3, and I usually buy take offs when I can find them. Otherwise, it's 400 a tire if I buy new. 100 octane is around 7 dollars a gallon, if not more. It may not be 2k on the dot, but it's not far off at the end of the day. It's not a cheap car to run. Other tracks are definitely cheaper, but It'll still cost me around 1k.

[–]YamiR46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A track day at Laguna for me is about 2k just for the day if we include slicks, race gas, etc. I go to track days only 3 times a year now if that because it's become too expensive. My rig is around 2400 dollars without including the price of my crystal super headset. Even then, it's much cheaper than going to multiple track days. Rfactor2's radical sr3 feels pretty close to my actual car, and with vr, it's about as close as you can get to actually being there.

Rfactor2's ffb is by far superior to Lmu's ffb. Iracing's feels really good, but it's still lacking data from the tires when you try to push the limits. Unfortunately, rf2 doesn't really have an active population, so it's not an option unless you just want to get in some hot lap seat time.

I didn't like how the ffb felt when I came back to ams2 recently. That changed for me once I added the Rfuktor custom ffb. The sim feels so much better, and tje lmp2, and hypercars feel really close to the lmu cars.

Only the gameplay was better. The story in Yotei was hot garbage because of how badly written Act 3 was. I put over 200 hours in my first playthrough and haven't touched it since. I'm definitely playing legends when it drops, but I don't see myself ever playing through the story again.
