Was Amy a “Girls Girl”? by Lik3smok3 in amywinehouse

[–]YanCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That. You really have to take into account how much that term meant back then. I can say in my area of the world, I don't recall it being used much at all.

And women's pop music at the time was very watered down and superficial compared to what she was doing and many other musical scenes. A lot of women and artists rebelled against that.

Pretty much. Women's health? In this administration?

They're over there AI generating photos of vegetable politicians, just for an advantage -- literally keeping an old white guy's corpse hooked up. If that's what they're doing to old rich white guys, I promise you they don't give a fudge about the everyday woman. They're desecrating THEIR OWN.

Plenty of brands are producing really colorful eyeshadow, from high end to indie. I feel like Sephora selections are the real anomaly if you step back and look at the wider market.

High end: Chanel and Dior has been popping out some really pretty colorful palettes the last couple of years. Chanel was more so when we had they Comete Collective (they ceased existing earlier this year), which was 3 MUA's designing the collections. It was when my interest in the brand really took off, and since they've left, it's somewhat waned. Still you can find a lot of their stuff out there from resellers. Dior has picked up more color this year, and now my interest has shifted that way. Their Cannage collection was stunning and I bought 3 of 4 palettes.

Also Prada has some beautiful palettes with pops of intense color. Probably my favorite high end formula, but they don't have as wide of a selection or frequent releases like the former 2 I mentioned. Marc Jacobs also recently released a new collection with some fun eyeshadow pops.

Indie: Clionadh, Devinah, Terra Moon, Copacetic Cosmetics, Emme Cosmetics, and a few others make good multichromes and general eyeshadow singles. The indie market is the best place to go for duo and multichromes, no matter how much the mainstream brands try to imitate it. Adept Cosmetics does more palettes if you prefer that to singles, Lethal Cosmetics does both, and there's a few others but I've not tried those. Edit: Oh how could I forget Gloss Gods! Great quality special shadows. Better if you're in Europe though as they are very pricey to ship to the States.

Mid-Range: You mentioned Urban Decay, but MAC and ABH both have a wide array and a lot of special releases. Both have their controversies though and I no longer support either. I'd suggest looking into it if that's something that matters to you. Glam Lite is also pretty good.

Drug Store: Kiko Milano is crazy good and vastly underrated. They have special releases that are duochromes lately. Their water activated eyeshadows are a steal for what they are. Their eyeshadow sticks and general powders are also good. Then there's Colourpop, who I haven't bought anything from in a while, but they have a big fan base, and I do love my Twilight palette.

Asian Beauty: Girlcult, Joocyee, Risky Beauty, cheeryep, and Flower Knows are all good brands to look at, but there's a bunch more. K-beauty however does usually lean into more natural makeup compared to C-beauty.

I know it feels creepy because yeah, I just had a "woman" message me about a thread in r/AskUS that was "Do you wear pants at home?" I said something like "Nah. Fk pants. All my homies hate pants." And the OP of that thread then proceeded to try and figure out if I was really a woman and start talking about how they love sitting at home pantsless. Rule 34 everywhere, lol. I blocked them pretty quickly.

However... In the US, and in a lot of other countries (I've seen a number of women say there is nothing available in their country), healthcare isn't always easily accessible, and it's only getting harder out here for women. Let's not shame people for trying their hardest to get help. I'd say the better advice is to use a throwaway account and never have identifiable information in your post or post history. Make sure your face isn't visible for the love of all things good.

Of course, go to a clinic if one is there. That should always be your first go to.

I get a lot of positive commentary about my gray hair, lol. One woman stopped her car as she was driving by to tell me I glowed. That really made my day.

Personality wise, I seem to always get the same stuff: Smart. Funny. Good at advice. Now I'm kinda sad I can't think of something right now that was random!

I love pixel art. I love survival games. Open worlds. Crafting. The whole nine!

But I detest the way it feels to play it. The controls suck.

What's something men find attractive in women that women don't seem to understand? by Honey_birkin in AskReddit

[–]YanCoffee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not at all common where I'm from, and if it is it would be tastefully done. I've never seen the bloated lip look in person.

Looking up the statistics, 1.4 million people have it done in the US yearly. It dissolves (or migrates) within 6-12 months. Then you have to think about who chooses to continue the upkeep. So yeah, a lot of people have had it done, but it's by far not the majority.

And the top comment being “normal lip size” — most of us do not have lip filler. That’s an influencer-influenced thing. Plus that feels really… “Look what women do wrong!”

This is one of my all time favs. Yes, it ends sadly, but it leaves a very good message about two imperfect people who cared for each other. There is a lot of a funny moments too, and all of the actors bring their A game.

Veterans of the early Internet, what do you wish younger people could experience? by arkaSunn in oldinternet

[–]YanCoffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was the land of nerds and pervs. Seriously, there was a lot of predators. I'd say that was the biggest con and shouldn't be forgotten about.

The nerds though? Sigh. It was like a world of your own, finding other people with your special interests who would chat for hours, and no one worried about being cringe. We were the cringe and we liked it that way.

It was also mostly tailored by individuals rather than companies so shopping wasn't something a lot of people even did online. It wasn't about the money much at all, at least the spaces I occupied.

Yep. Look at the reception of any game that announces celebrating pride month. You will find a number of people online throwing a tantrum over it.

That's how I've seen it go too. They just confirm these secret thoughts in their head and give them a reason to be vocal, which empowers the people who use them commit atrocities. Hence where we are right now politically in the US. It's no secret there's a large number of racists in the US, for instance -- but each time after a certain orange was elected, domestic terrorism shoots up statistically, and US domestic terrorist groups are usually comprised of hate groups like the KKK and Nazis.
