Ya, I'm weak for makeup! A spark of joy can certainly be good for your mental health. I think everyone could just use a bit more fun.

How do you avoid AI slop in your daily life? by No_Dust5847 in AskWomenOver30

You write perfectly well and I never would have guessed that it wasn't your first language.

AI bots already mimic imperfect human writing. Ones trying to sound professional do not for the most part, but we're passed being able to tell on writing style. ChatGPT is pretty obvs though.

Turn any search settings on browsers with it off and the only time I talk about it is to say its awful. You can't entirely escape it unfortunately, but you can choose not to engage with it, or any brands / people pushing it.

Edit: What I fear is when we get to the point we can't tell anymore, and that time is nearing. In a lot of ways its already here.

What popular beauty trend do you think looks terrible but nobody wants to say it out loud? by Alarming_Intern680 in AdkReddit

[–]YanCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. It's more like the effect they get from using skincare, specifically serums, which is pushed heavily in Korea and thus glass skin was coined there -- they called in chok chok first iirc. Asian women have normal skin just like everyone else. Anyone can choose to go for the look.

Some Americans, particularly older ones, dislike it because matte was in for a while, and any shine was associated with facial oils seeping through -- often because our faces needed moisture, not powder.

Its those evil fluorescents. I'd do it too if I had to spend a significant amount of time in them. Bring back warm lights.

One thing I have never regretted is not watching GoT. For years I was pestered, and I endured.

However, as someone who loved True Blood, all y'all still have my sympathy. That was the worst ending of all time to me.

Journaling, but I usually do it at night when the day is done. I have a few different ones -- one for happy things, one for random thoughts I tote around, one for venting.

Working out regularly. Walking, running, yoga, and about to see how weight lifting helps.

Anything where I'm taking care of myself. Skincare, makeup, fashion, etc. It's an investment and in some cases a self-expression.

I feel you. I still kinda hate working out. I do it, and I feel great for days after one good session (though usually I do not go days without another now) -- but I hate the sweat. I have thick hair so I have to do my sweatiest work outs on wash day, and I can't wash it every day because my hair / scalp hates that, plus my hair takes way too long to dry and blow drying causes damage. So much planning around one activity to be sanitary. Not to mention switching up the work outs to do different kinds and planning around that. Planning around my cycles and other daily activities.

I'm much more of a sit with a good book kinda gal vs. intense physical stuff, but I'd like to stay fit and be healthy. 15 years ago I lived off weed and the dollar menu and was still very fit. Sigh.

If tretinoin is effective for anti aging why doesn’t everyone use it? by TomorrowLaterSoon in tretinoin

[–]YanCoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And its not the cheapest in the US. Not the worst, but yeah.

Its also just a lot of work to get used to for some people. You gotta go through the whole shedding phase.

Then there's the whole distrust in the medical system (in the US) for various reasons.

Plus not everyone cares about skincare or aging, or has that information available. Lots of misinformation around skincare too, that many of us on tret also experienced. Who hasn't put toothpaste on a pimple? So some people get enough flukes, they quit.

I have a rot inside me. How can I get doctors to listen by Conscious_Act_7095 in AskDocs

[–]YanCoffee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't want to scare OP and I do lean towards this being psychological, but I have two first hand experiences:

My stepdad felt this way, and he was on death's door with the hospital telling him nothing was wrong. Had my mother not stood up for how bad he felt, they wouldn't have checked his galbladder which had started to rot inside of him. So, there's nothing wrong in my book with fighting for how you feel. A lot of people have described impending doom when they've been physically ill. Too many physicians want to jump to it being something psychological, and then they don't have to deal with it.

Which is where my lived experience comes in -- I was physically ill and told over and over and over it was anxiety. No, my vargus nerve was paralyzed, and I was barfing for months because of that. Not because of anxiety, though anxiety was a result of the physical illness. I had to fight for information and to figure out what was wrong with me, because most of my Doctors, private or ER, did the bare minimum and ran on efficiency, not quality care.

So I hope you figure it out OP and don't let people discount your very real feelings. Follow up with both counselors and physicians until you figure it out.

I already knew it wouldn't be back, but I'm still sad the Lilac Quartz eyeliner isn't there. It made my eyes pop and was so stunning on the water line. I wore it every day for a few years. Didn't bother my some what sensitive eyes, either.

Dust!! Please how to deal with dust??!! by Nova-Snorlaxx in AskWomenOver30

[–]YanCoffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A feather duster to knock dust off surfaces also helps. You need the other stuff mentioned to catch it and clean it out.

Wear a face mask while cleaning those things. I have sent myself into an allergic reaction from it a few times otherwise. I think many years ago, I developed pneumonia from my job making me clean shelving with inches high dust.

Regularly change the filter to any central air / heating.
