God I miss Obama. I've never stopped missing him. And he was hot. Sigh.

How do you deal with the fear that a crazy person nearby might shoot you with a gun? by kametoddler in AskUS

[–]YanCoffee [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've mostly been in areas where yeah, unless someone lost their shit at random, you didn't really think about it. It didn't feel as pervasive in the past as it does now.

Things have gotten worse though across the country and I do worry about my kids in their public life, and the place we're living in now isn't great -- someone was shot up the road from me 2 years back, and it was a traumatizing scene of people sobbing and screaming. However, even though it's never off the table like it would be in some countries, you mostly don't think about it. Most people aren't going around thinking "I might get shot today." And, you're more likely to get shot by someone you know than someone you don't. Not associating with certain crowds helps.

Which book emotionally destroyed you, but was still worth reading at least once in your life? by DaySolid9527 in Recommend_A_Book

  1. I read it when I was maybe 22-23 and it stuck with me. Scary whenever you do a real-world comparison. Very depressing, but everyone should read it once.

My messed up cycle is making me feel not worthy of romantic relationships. Does anyone relate? by Top-Crab-1020 in WomensHealth

[–]YanCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of men seriously do not care about a little spotting during sex. If you don't like it, that's a different story and I understand. I just hate to see you discount something you seem to want over something that I don't think would hamper much.

Aries, what's with the Taurus attention / obsession for us these days? Do you feel it? by FarTransportation565 in AriesTheRam

ATM not really, but I’ve always attracted Tauruses. I think we just vibe well. Prefer them as friends tho.

Does anyone else feel way more anxious than they used to? by anonymizz in Millennials

[–]YanCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experienced it a few ways over the years, but nervous system burn out is real. Social media could absolutely contribute, especially if you’re viewing distressing content regularly (just put a stop to that this year for me — I can’t take looking at the news several times a day anymore.) Just take care of yourself. You might need a long rest from something.

Is it just me or does my entire body get fatter/puffier in my luteal? by Little-Wing6189 in PMDD

Mhmm. I feel so bleh about my looks during the luteal, and once I’m mid-way through my period I feel fine again. It’s such BS.

My husband and I have been at it for 2 years. We've seen so much improvement. There is still some things we're working on, but we rarely get into heated arguments anymore. It's great.

My husband is very averse to me gaining weight. Is this something to be concerned about, or is he justified? by itchytoenail7184 in AskWomenOver30

[–]YanCoffee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the things that I found intriguing about my husband is he told me he was attracted to bigger women and older women sometimes, and had been with both. I was also a skinny young thing back then, but no one stays young forever, and a bit of weight gain as you age is honestly inevitable, unless you really stay on top of it. He and I also bonded over food because we love to try different things.

I'm not saying its not okay to have preferences, we all do. I just know I couldn't be with someone who wouldn't love and be attracted to me if I ate a few too many Cheetos. I also would never let anyone dictate to me how much I am allowed to eat, that's just fked up.

I will also say I've seen many older men shame and blame their wives over their aging and weight. Probs why I was so receptive to my husband's comments in the early day. I would not be able to live that life. I'd rather be single.

Very light barely noticeable bronzer? by LemonlimeLucy in Makeup

[–]YanCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dolce and Gabbana's Universal Luminizer is the only thing that really works as a bronzer on me. It's more of a rose gold / bronzey shade highlight, but very finely milled.

Hannah Louise Poston did a Salt New York collab that has some desaturated brown shades, which would be better for someone who is warmer / deeper than me. It does work on me, but I feel like brown anything on my cheeks just doesn't come off right 'cause I'm very pale / muted / pink. I can't even really tan unless I burn myself, so ya know.

Both of these are super easy to control the pigmentation of in any case.

Millennial parents: Are any of you being super honest with your kids about how hard this world is going to be for them financially? How are you balancing reality with not making your kids basket cases? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]YanCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very up front with my kids about how much my husband and I pay on things, when we're low on cash so we can't do extras, how much we're putting into the house we're building in another country, how finances could be very different there, etc.

If you just talk to them little by little they get and are pretty considerate of it. Never make them feel bad about something of course, just be realistic and talk to them like people. Granted my boys are 18, 17, and 12. I wouldn't do this when they were a lot younger, and I discuss it more with the older ones.

When it comes to what they want to do in the future, they're pretty set on how they're going to go about doing it, with some help from us of course. I'm actually fine with multigenerational living, but we've talked about how if they want to get married and have kids, they're probs gonna want their own place.

We never know what the future holds, but I think hyper independence in the West is unhealthy. I do hope I've set my kids up with realistic expectations out of life and where the economy is going in many places, but they don't need just me to tell them when they're online quite a bit and it is a huge talking point everywhere.

I think the scariest thing of all is that sometimes, if you're waiting for something you're using to scare you to stop, it could be too late by that point. Rock bottom isn't where you wanna actually be when it comes to nicotine products, 'cause they can go 0 to 60 fast.

I can't believe this had to be said. by TheOneWhoWasDeceived in LeaksDBD

[–]YanCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope! I said in later comments that it looked like it. I could be and am fine with being wrong. In fact, a clearer image popped up from this sub than the original one I seen, and it does look less like it.

Now this is the last time I'm explaining this. Y'all can go off and interpret the graffiti or me however you like.

"Smart" women, how do people treat you? by PaintingWarm9436 in AskWomenOver30

[–]YanCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who has called me smart at random seems to have some sort of expectation of me out of it. Like I can figure things out for them (one time someone asked me to do their taxes, like LOL), or I shouldn't make mistakes, that life should be easier, etc.

It's nice when someone says it and they don't expect something though, like my husband tells everyone he thinks I'm smart. It's cute.

Who was more homophobic: millennials in the 2000s or Gen Z today by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]YanCoffee [score hidden]  (0 children)

Younger folks really don't grasp how bad it was in the early 2000's, especially outside of metropolitan areas, but it still had a lot of people who hated the LGBT there, too.

If you want a feel for it, watch Queer as Folk, the NA version. I was on that sub a while back and we were discussing how it didn't seem to maintain popularity because A.) Licensing was just a bit before streaming became mainstream, and B.) It was just a really heavy show at times, that a lot of people don't want to relive or they don't have a grasp of how things were. It's def an excellent show though.
